OP, are you sure you didnt just catch the aggregate-averaging point in time where it isnt showing counts per minute but rather totals for several minutes? The site has said before that this is how they come to an average. Please update the thread if you can.

Look at the screen shot times.

You will see it is fluctuating from the high 90's to the 118 rang CPM

How to Read the Map:

Referring to the Map Legend at the bottom left corner of the map, locate Monitoring Stations around the country that are contributing radiation data to this map as you read this, and watch the numbers on those monitoring stations update as frequently as every minute (your browser will automatically refresh). The numbers represent radiation Counts per Minute, abbreviated CPM, and under normal conditions, quantify the level of background radiation, i.e. environmental radiation from outer space as well as from the earth's crust and air. Depending on your location, your elevation or altitude, and your model of Geiger counter, this background radiation level might average anywhere from 5 to 60 CPM, and while background radiation levels are random, it would be unusual for those levels to exceed 100 CPM. Thus, the "Alert Level" for the National Radiation Map is 100 CPM, so if you see any Monitoring Stations with CPM value above 100, further indicated by an Alert symbol over those stations, it probably means that some radioactive source above and beyond background radiation is responsible.

but the other simulation in GA remains low and normal background like 18

simulation testing involves taking a counter and placing a known radioactive substance and placing it next to the meter to simulation a radioactive environment. this help to ensure that counter is working as expected and reporting the correct counts.

Fols, radiationnetwork is junk... if you want accurate readings you need to check out radnet from the epa

Select Stationary air monitor

Select Query tool to search the radnet...for BETA radiation data

Scroll down to 'Other Data'


Select Beta Gross count rate

and then the state you want to see


It isnt that user friendly, however if you poke around in say, az you'll see some very high numbers..

People better take their iodine.....

It's testing.
None of the hourly Radnet data for energy range 10 gamma counts from Richmond, Virginia Beach, or Harrisonburg VA exceeded 90 CPM in the past week. The Richmond air monitor numbers did rise in the past week, but not over 90 CPM.
