Here's all you need

.22 Long Rifle

12 Gauge Shotgun

I have 4 Marlin Model 60 .22 Long rifles, and 4 - NEF 12 gauge shotguns. 1,000's of .22 LR rounds and Hundreds of 12 gauges shells.

All guns are same make and model (Think Spare Parts when TSHTF)

You can use my "Real World" experience to base Your decision if you like. I stand behind my advice.

Army - Combat Tours:
1990-1991 IRAQ - Desert Storm
1992-1993 - South Korea - DMZ
1994-1995 - U.N. Mission in Haiti

Isn't it amazing that the guys that have actually carried the 5.56 in combat never recommend it.....

...and do you think that is that exactly? 1dunno1

When you see guys shooting at you and putting holes in mud walls with guns that they haven't cleaned in 40 years, and your .223 (5.56) doesn't even penetrate those same walls...you gain a whole new respect for the 7.62x39 AK's

Sorry for the typo earlier.
Coming out of my sugar-coma from desert this evening. stoned

I would tend to agree.....but just wanted to hear your thoughts. .308's & 7.62 pack a punch.
