GREAT NEWS: The Unemployment rate continues to drop
Since August of 2011 the U3-Unemployment rate has continued to decrease, and since September of 2011 the U6-Unemployment rate has also continued to decrease. While an 8.3% U3-Unemployment rate is still a little high, it appears as though the employment situation in the U.S. is getting better. Many of you were claiming that the seasonally adjusted U3-Unemployment rate would increase for the month of January because you were, and still are, unwilling to accept the fact that the U.S. economy is currently in the expasionary phase of the business cycle---FYI, real GDP growth has been positive since Q3 2009. Those of you who have a manufacturing fetish will never be satisfied with any government figures that do not perpetuate your preconceived notions about what drives a macroeconomy. I understand that some of you would like nothing more than President Obama to fail, which is fine as everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, but things are beginning to look better and it's time to find some other reason to despise him. It's time for you guys to wake up and smell the recovery. goodnewscoffee4

BLS report (pdf format): [link to www.bls.gov]

Here is a graph of both the U3 and U6 unemployment rate since President Obama took office.

:jan12u3u6:

Seasonally adjusted unemployment (U3) by race

Things are beginning to look better for everyone no matter what their race is. Black unemployment is still extremely high, and hopefully many of those currently unemployed will find full-time unemployment in the near future. Minorities make up a fairly high proportion of individuals receiving government assistance and as more of them begin to reenter the labor force, their dependence on government aid will decrease. I am a firm believer in allowing individuals to receive government aid during recessionary periods---the middle class and the poor have a larger marginal propensity consume.

Exactly! When you have an unprecedented 1.2 million person reduction in the labor force a loss of half a million jobs can appear to be an increase in the level of employment. Nothing has changed. There is no recovery.

And the LORD spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.

No, you are mistaken. The Unemployment rate is determined via telephonic survey, and the BLS does not rely on UI numbers.

 Quoting: CrazyJarhead

"Some people think that to get these figures on unemployment, the Government uses the number of persons filing claims for unemployment insurance (UI) benefits under State or Federal Government programs. But some people are still jobless when their benefits run out, and many more are not eligible at all or delay or never apply for benefits. So, quite clearly, UI information cannot be used as a source for complete information on the number of unemployed.

Other people think that the Government counts every unemployed person each month. To do this, every home in the country would have to be contacted—just as in the population census every 10 years. This procedure would cost way too much and take far too long. Besides, people would soon grow tired of having a census taker come to their homes every month, year after year, to ask about job-related activities.

Because unemployment insurance records relate only to persons who have applied for such benefits, and since it is impractical to actually count every unemployed person each month, the Government conducts a monthly sample survey called the Current Population Survey (CPS) to measure the extent of unemployment in the country. The CPS has been conducted in the United States every month since 1940, when it began as a Work Projects Administration project. It has been expanded and modified several times since then. For instance, beginning in 1994, the CPS estimates reflect the results of a major redesign of the survey. (For more information on the CPS redesign, see Chapter 1, "Labor Force Data Derived from the Current Population Survey," in the BLS Handbook of Methods.)"

How long until you free yourself from their slavery?
How long can you accept servitude while labeling it freedom?
If you fail to free your mind now, you'll die in slavery; never questioning why you're shackled or the commands of the overseer.

Re: GREAT NEWS: The Unemployment rate continues to drop
lol, it's so funny how the markets jumped today and people are jumping and shouting because unemployment is dropping

Let me remind you of something

People are getting paid less and working more hours these days

The price of everything is going up still

I am a contractor and everyone I know in the industry is hurting bad. Even though we have work, we are killed with taxes, insurance, desperate people underbidding to get work.

I make enough to pay my current bills, but not enough to pay old debt or to save.

Yes, this is just me, and one industry here....but we are hearing of this news like it's great...yah. Even if unemployment was at 3%, it wouldn't matter. Inflation is high, we have a corrupt system of politics, banking and media....they take everything, and give us a nugget back and we are popping corks on champagne.

This isn't how it's supposed to be....

New filings has dropped. (because the remainder work or are jobless homeless)

Nobody counts those who's benefits ran out dropped and are jobless. Those figures pile it high and steamy upon the new filing figures.

There are leaps and bounds of jobless without benefits then there are jobless recieving benefits.
