Re: I haven't used shampoo in over a year, my hair has never felt/looked healthier, girls touch it all the time, it does exactly what I want it to.
I have a question about this. I stopped using shampoo, because of this thread. I stopped back in July. I have been scrubbing the hell out of my hair in the shower and have been using baking soda to wash it after workouts or when needed. Usually 3-4 times a week. I then rinse with apple cider vinegar mixed with water and then rinse my hair very thoroughly. My hair feels better than ever. It looks better than ever. Its great.

BUT...

I have been having a major problem with smelling TERRIBLE while I sleep. I create this absolutely horrid odor while sleeping. Only while sleeping too. I smell just fine all day and I have now been showering before and after going to sleep and I have been washing my sheets and pillows and pillow covers almost every other day. Its impressively pungent. I have been embarassed to even have a female in my bed with me since this started. (2-3 weeks ago)
The one woman that did spend the night woke up and asked me if I was ok. She thought I was dying because she could hardly breathe after being in bed with me for only 3 hours.

I wake up all the time now and throw my pillow on the ground. I cover my pillow covers with shirts and stuff to try to keep the smell from my pillows. Its awful.

Has anyone else experienced this while switching from shampoo to baking soda and vinegar? Or is it something else entirely?

I really need to solve this problem soon before I get killed by the gases escaping my body.

Sounds like you are detoxing which has nothing to do with shampooing or not. MIght want to look more into your diet and see what is going on. Are you drinking enough water?

How long does it take before my hair stops looking greasy?
I am on day 3.
Last night I used baking soda and followed with an ACV rinse. I used too much ACV so I smelled like a salad.
I am going to put ACV and water in a spray bottle.
I am going to mix the baking soda with water and put it in a small dish soap bottle.
I was shocked how soft and tangle free my hair was.
I have long wavy/fuzzy hair it's fine but thick.
It's not fuzzy at all but I wonder if that's because its greasy?

I would wait a week... I'm at four weeks. Each week it gets better. I worried about the greasy look too. It looks so thick and natural now.

Maybe somebody can help me here. My hair is a bit greasy, and I don't have apple cider vinegar or baking soda, and even if I did, I eat it, not put it in my hair. It looks like my hair is "dirty" and I should use some soap... Dr Bronners, of course. Also I wash my hair only in cold/cold-warm water.

Very nice thread!

I've always had this feeling there is something wrong with shampoo having wide spectrum of chemicals.

Now it indeed seems that they add all that nasty stuff to force body to produce extra hair grease/make head itch... to force you into using more and more of the shampoo....

And people have lived for millenias without all that crap...

Metropia ( [link to www.imdb.com] ) might not be only pure fantasy after all.

AbyssLady, thanks for bringing this thread back up. Most people are unaware of cleansing with baking soda/cocoanut oil/water & conditioning with vinegar/honey/water mixtures.

About 40-years ago this was suggested by my hair stylist. Yes, a hair stylist. She said it would reduce the tangles, knots and resulting split ends. Another benefit was fewer salon trips to have damaged ends trimmed.

She also explained it's the skin of the scalp that develops the odor, crust, flakes. Not the hair itself. The scalp needs to be massaged & stimulated for proper blood circulation and distribution of natural oils.

I keep my hair around elbow length. It's medium-fine strands, thick, and textured. Also 75-percent white, 25-percent brunette that pulls auburn.

Someone asked about having a shampoo at the stylists. I tell any stylist or shampoo "girl" I washed it that morning & please just rinse it with warm water. Never have had anyone argue or insist on shampooing/conditioning. Been to too many stylists to count all over the world, too.

Another goodie is Aloe Vera Gel. It makes a great styling aide. Mixed with cocoanut oil, it makes a moisturising treatment. Mixed with cocoanut oil, powdered milk, it makes a protein treatment.

Anyone want to share other care tips? Who knows, if it's TEOTWAWKI we may all benefit from learning of alternative personal care.

my wife tried this, she is half black half mexican. Although her hair looked amazing and she had no scalp issues, her hair was dirty as hell. She didnt notice that until she tried to straighten it and how dirty the blow dryer and flat iron got. She tried no washing only rinsing for a few months.

You admit hair is naturally oily, well the dirt will not get out of the oil unless you use soap. Maybe its different because she is blexican and had long hair, but I would recommend a good, safe shampoo at least a few times a month.

also avoid parabens, they contribute to estrogen dominance/imbalances.

its true. If you want nice hair, don't shampoo it. I wash my hair with shampoo about once every 2 months, when I cut it. been doing this for over 5 years and my hair is wonderful
