For people with very oily hair try going every other day shampooing and in between wash your hair with warm water when in the shower. Eventually you may be able to go two days without using shampoo and so on. You just need to give your scalp time to adjust.

Rinsing your hair in water is not "washing" your hair. It's wetting your hair.

Thanks for the post! I will try it. I know just about everything you buy has garbage in it that is bad for you. I have been using some organic stuff but still has some questionable ingredients. Saving $$$$ sounds great to me!

Quite a few of us have gone "no poo" thanks to MO's thread - lots of good info in it.

OP I think is right.

You MUST let your hair adjust.

However, if I go a few days without washing it with chemicals, it gets really MURKY and oily.

Doesn't smell, at all, though.

I cut out the SLS a long time ago, only organic type shampoos.

It's just going to take a long, long time for most to adjust, and that period is pretty hard to get through.

What about the scalp. If I don't use shampoo my scalp gets super freaking itchy.

Baking soda and water - massage it into the scalp - rinse

then seal the cuticle with apple cider vinegar and water - rinse with cold water

How long is your hair and do you cut your own hair also?

It makes me wonder what a barber would say about your hair health. They would probably spew some BS and try to sell you shampoo, conditioner and hairspray.

I quit using shampoo for a few months, then used it one time... grrrr!
My scalp got all itchy and flakey and it took several weeks to get back to 'normal'.

The replies to this thread are funny!

If you rinse your hair good, daily, you won't end up looking or smelling like Johnny Depp (who is not only anti shampoo/soap but anti shower as well!)
You don't even "need" body soap if you shower daily.

If needed between showers, baking soda can be used as an underarm deoderant, cheap, very effective and easy!

If I brush it when it's dry it looks like a huge fuzzy bush.
In my mind I have to use conditioner.
But I will give it a try.

I have super curly hair too and before going "no poo", if I brushed it, it would turn into a frizzy afro! Now, for the first time since childhood, I can brush my hair with no frizz!

I suggest working in a small amount of coconut oil while your hair is wet - helps heal those dry ends and controls frizz - you'll be soon blessed with beautiful ringlets!
