The talk of vaccines is worrying to me.
If you choose to vaccinate please do your research first and make an informed decision.
IMO and it's only IMO, dosing up on Vit C powder is my personal choice to boost the immune system.

OP, didn't they in the last few days kill 10,000 ducks in VIC or SA due to bird flu???

Any discussion of a vaccine for H5N1 is very premature. In order to create the vaccine, they need to have the correct DNA sequences and Indonesia has been withholding them for years. Without knowing what the recent mutations are, there can be no vaccine that is effective.

Even this season's vaccine doesn't cover the newly mutated H3N2 virus; it will only protect against the older version. Hence some will get the flu vaccine and still get the flu.

While I'm all in favor of Vit C and many other alternative health measures, they really will not be able to dent the impact of H5N1 should it start to spread in wider numbers. In fact, a lot of deaths from a novel flu are the result of a strong immune system, which overreacts to the flu virus, causing incredible damage to the body's organs, especially among the healthy 20-40 year olds. Hi MZTREECHICK, creative name :)

Two things, the last first, I havent heard of any culls of birds here in Australia, if you could try to chase that up that would be greatly appreciated by all Im sure.

Next in response to your comments about vaccinations etc.

Now I do understand that there is a lot of talk about the pros and cons of same.

I dont need to go into that now as its actually not completely relevant, well only slightly.

Let me explain how both the Spanish flu and H5N1 bird flu actually kill their hosts.

It really isnt the bug that kills you!!

Thats right, its actually your own immune system that does all the damage which results in your death.

People with really weakened immune systems are actually the most likley people to be the survivors.

Here is what happens.

When your body sees such an alien invasion it activates your immune system, H5N1 is so alien that it causes your immune system to go into "overdrive" as it were, what then happens its the very delicate tissues in your lungs that are not able to cope with all this increase in antidodies and these tissues begin to break down.

This then allows for blood and other bodily secreations from the damaged tissuess to leak into your lungs, and eventually death comes about through the victim "drowning" in their own fluids.

A very unpleasant death.

I know that this is a very confronting senario, but there it is for what its worth.

Honestly, if this ever goes pandemic, have large supplies of dissinfectant, face masks and some method of being able to keep yourself in strict quarantine for extended periods of time.

Try to think of how that little hamlet in ??Europe or England survived the Bubonic plague by having their food and other needs delivered to a pre arranged point, and after the delivery was made the people would then go to collect it well seperated from whom ever made the delivery.

Sounds drastic, but these will be the measures we will all have to adopt if we intend to be survivors.

Vaccines take time to prepare and then mass produce and distribute and, as yet Im not aware of any for H5N1.

ELEANOR HALL: In Victoria, authorities are working to contain the first confirmed outbreak of the avian flu in Australia for 15 years.

Twenty-five-thousand ducks are being killed at a farm north of Melbourne after the virus was detected there last week.

Thanks for the info you supplied to me personally, I have come across this during my own research. I have stated elsewhere that I am not one to panic, but to prepare.

Thank you very much for going back to source that news.

Ive just read the article and it dates back to the end of January, why is this the first time that we have even heard of it???

Media censoring the news we can have access to???

Next, if you read that article it is full of the typical downplaying of the importance of potentially massively impacting events.

We see this type of media and "official" handling of the news all the time here in Australia, its no wonder we're very well known a "The Nanny State", apparentley even as adults we need our politicians and various "Authorities" to do our thinking for us!!

This really angers me.

Not only have they removed the previously reported cases of bird flu deaths, that I commenced this thread with.

Now they are not, at least yet, reporting the newer cases that EMA has just bought to light in her recent post.

I think that corrupt is perhaps a bit harsh.

However, if you look right down their front page you will also see a table that shows NEO's, i.e. Near Earth Objects.

Late last year there was one that was going to get quite close to earth, and of course there was all the usual skuttlebut about an Earth Extinction event and so on.

What I did notice was that their "list" of NEO's stopped just a few days short of that asteroids predicted pass.

I contacted them and within a few days, with no response, the list was fully reinstated well into the next month.

Now, not be any type of alarmist, Ive been noticing that their "list" has again ceased to be updated.

Just a comment for the sake of being observant.

As I have previously stated, I find that particular site to be an excellent source of information and to be honest I really dont see anything untoward with how they operate.

If you look carefully, they are simply a site that sources all its information from a multitude of "Primary" providers.

And apolagies for being Off Topic.

Hope to see this one stay on the front page, not because I'm a pin freak, but because I care about people and if it helps create awareness of a serious issue that our whole race may soon face.

Then front page I shamelessly request.

The more people that read it and talk about it obviously the better.

Nothing to worry about.

H5N1 hit Europe last year. People were panicking, and the only ones who really suffered were the ones who took the vaccine.

Sorry my friend, you absolutely must have a different flu, H5N1 has yet to "hit" anywhere, and there has never been a vaccine prepared for it.

And as for panicking, perhaps it would be a good suggestion to just go back through and pick out the posts from

I usually never bother with flu shots, but for some reason, maybe the spread of SARS was it, but I made an appointment to go to my clinic for the free flu shot.

Now having a nursing and pathology background, Im pretty familiar with needles, in a medical sense.

In pathology there are times when I have been able to draw blood and my patient hasnt even been aware of the proceedure, sometimes you just get lucky and dont hit a nerve or sensitive area.

Anyway, Im a chicken when on the other end of the needle and when I "had"? that shot I didnt feel a thing, not then nor did I have any redness or soreness nor even a puncture mark from that shot!

I know that it could be possible, but I am certain that that nurse swabbed me, and put a dressing where she had swabbed me, but the serum went down the sink, just cant be certain.

Dont really know how to answer that.

Coming from a nursing background ( which my medico's are aware of!) many years ago, and I am prepared to admit that things do change, I still find it difficult to "let go" of my "Western medical training".

It may well have changed but back then well it had good credibility I guess.

I would probably still be biassed to promote that "science" and maybe put too much trust where it may no longer be appropriate.

At the end of the day, these doubts etc are always the result of our lack of trust in all the various "Authorities" that continually treat us all like idiots.

It does not surprise me at all at the almost "pandemic" misstrust with what we are told and supposed to believe on face value these days.

op pleae i would like your oppinion taking in concideration the following
recession/deppression going around europe
drop in standard of living, people perhaps noting eating as well as they should , not able to keep warm because of fear of heating costs, wars in middle east and presant freezing temps over europe do you see a repeat of history
as most great plagues seem i think to happen when people are already weakened by the factors above

HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE

ITAHARI: The Sunsari-based Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve and the vicinity are now at high risk of bird flu.

According to Dr Bolraj Acharya, chief at the Biratnagar-based Regional Livestock Directorate, the reserve, which is home to around 500 species of birds is under threat of avian flu. He informed that the livestock office is on high alert. Acharya said cooperation between local residents and officials is imperative to prevent the transmission of the virus into humans.

Locals fear that bird flu will spread in the reserve and nearby human settlements from neighbouring Prakashpur VDC. They have called on authorities to step up vigilance to prevent the spread of the virus.

sorry I missed a lot of posts from here on so I'll try to catch up for everyone, different time zones, Im pushin zzzz's and you are all reading!!

Re your question regarding environmental influences that appear to have a cause and effect nature.

In this case I think that you have been quite observant and questioning in the way you apply your logic, but these environmental occurances really are pretty cyclic one way or another and the emergance of major pandemics that seem to correlate are simple coincidences, at least in the cases of killer flu's.

If you look back through this thread, and just look for EMA's posts and mine directly below one of hers, you will see a pretty good explaination as to how these bugs actually kill the healthiest in our communities, which of course is in complete opposition to what you would expect.

Sorry I was late with your answer.

Cheers
