Re: <<Advancing Bird Flu-H5N1...Now following MERS and Ebola approaching PANDEMICS>>>
Here is my last post on the "Pandemic" MERS-cov thread.

I am posting it here as it now names the New York hospital, being St Lukes, that is apparently treating the 25 cases of what we suspect to be MERS-cov that is appearing to be what could amount to the leading edge of a new world wide deadly pandemic.

Confirmation that St Lukes Hospital in New York is the treating hospital would be helpful.

Here is some posted commentary regarding this situation.

The description describes medical barrier nursing practices and as such gains considerable credibility.

If you are not medically trained you could not describe these protocols, leading to and lending much greater credibility to the credentials of the poster.

The hospital that has now been identified as St. Lukes hospital in New York, so if anyone else could add confirmation we might be able to move forward with the issues that are core to this development.

I want to say a few things to get more information out. My Brother in Law John made the first video while I was still typing to him more information. I work at St Lukes . We were told to keep Hush Hush and not tell anyone what is going on at our hospital.

The CDC Has been contacted not be me but by other nurses. I was off the day they arrived but know not much was done by them. We have contacted local news papers but they want more proof and since we do have the privacy acts in place we can't just hand over medical files.

Since I have spoke up to hospital staff and asked questions I was given as they said "Time off"

The flu that I am talking about The symptoms are as follows:

Fever over 103
Severe body aches and pains
Raspy Cough
Chills
Either a Fast or slow heart rate.
Lethargic

We administer antibiotics when we first thought it was a virus and then Tamiflu and it has not responded
When we treat the patients we are to wear gloves up to the elbows we were a yellow or blue gown and a full face mask. No one is allowed in or out of the room with out wearing the protective gear.

Maybe, but these protocols are the best available.

And more than likely these protocols would have been instigated before test results had been returned as are normal medical practices.

Basically you act first and react second, its the most prudent treatment regime to adopt and will often significantly and positively impact on the severity of a disease, in the absence of more positive guiding information.

Basically you throw everything at what is in front of you and modify your treatment based on information as it comes to hand.

This would actually be considered very agressive medical management and is to be considered in a good light.

Well with due respect.

On some points you are correct, no doctor will act in a rash manner.

However, where there is a risk of anaphalactic reaction all doctors will first test by simply scratching your skin with the contents of the needle that he intends to inject.

Usually within a very short time period any likely reaction will become evident without presenting itself as life threatening if a full injection is administered.

A simple skin reaction signals the possible adverse reaction.

This same protocol will be very familiar with anyone who is or has been trying to discover their reactions to hayfever problems, it is simple and completely harmess and routine.

Even so, should all care still miss a reaction, once in a hospital enviornment anyone haveing even the most severe reaction to any treatment is perfectly placed to have complete life support provided for the relatively short time it takes for the body to process and expell its toxins, maybe around 8-12 hours, so with respect to your comments there are far more very elaborate medical interventions in common use these days.

However at all times all doctors and treating staff will exercise their best structures in treatment in order to gain the best outcomes.

This includes the best advisable treatment until lab studies can provide better directions...some well placed treatments are better than nothing, modification when specifics become known, improve actions already in place.

Doing nothng is what is the most dangerous of all.

With all due respect your comments do lack a complete understanding of what mdical practicioners are expected to "practice" if they in deed wish to avoid law suites, law suites that will be guided by other medical experts assessing whether the best protocols were in fact observed.

Some food for thought, perhaps

This really is tragic.

To think that the legal profession and the threat of being sued, over-rides what use to be the primary health care considerations, and relegates that to a secondary position, threatening life and limb is a very sad report card on society.

That was never the case when I practised here in Australia but I admit it has been some time.

Hi all.

First please allow me to welcome readers from another thread related to the MERS-cov that I have directed to this thread.

As the other thread is essentially finished now, but news of the MERS-cov continues, it will best be covered on this thread as has been the case for its first discovery.

There is already fresh news today that has hit the MSM which I have been noting for some time now, so Ill post this welcome posting and then move to this new news.

Again welcome to all.

Here is an extract from an article that appeared here in Australia today concerning the risks that religous pilgrimage travellers to Saudi Arabia may confront.

Killer virus alert for travellersCathy O'Leary Medical Editor, The West Australian

Australians travelling to the Middle East could need a health check when they return if infections caused by a SARS-like virus continue to rise, a WA disease expert warns.

Curtin University professor of health science Charles Watson said a new viral agent from the same family of viruses that caused an outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome 10 years ago had emerged in the Middle East a few months ago and recently spread to Europe.

By this week, 41 cases of the coronavirus, known as London1 novel CoV 2012, had been reported and half the patients had died.

Professor Watson, a public health physician and neuroscientist, said the virus was not highly infectious and had been limited to small clusters but if the number of cases kept rising it could pose a risk to other countries such as Australia.

Of particular concern would be the impact of the hajj, a pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia in mid-October which was expected to attract two million Muslims from around the world, including Australia.

The following news is very concerning as it could very well be signalling H2H transmission of MERS-cov to passengers travelling on the same plane with other infected cases.

This could be the first signal of significant spreading via international travel around the globe.

Lets hope that this is an isolated case, if it is not then the pandemic we have been fearing could be one step closer to occuring.

This is a report of a fatal outcome in Tunisia and it is the very first news of it that has emerged.

This is unusual, as usually we are made aware of cases well before the poor sufferers succumb to their illnesses.

Hopefully, this information delay is not associated with the World Health Organizations deliberate concealing of information surrounding MERS-cov cases, as has been their modus operandi for some time now, all be it without explaination or justifiable reason.

Fatal MERS-CoV Confirmed In Tunisia ex-KSA/Qatar
Recombinomics Commentary 18:15
May 20, 2013

according to a statement from the Ministry of Health published in the day Monday, May 20, 2013. The victim of this virus is a 66 year old man who died at the hospital Fatuma Bourguiba in Monastir, after his trip to Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Break...

Although confirmed onward transmission in Tunisia is unclear, the export of MERS-CoV from Saudi Arabia or Qatar represents the third confirmed example of spread via commercial airline. The earlier SARS-like clusters in England and France involved onward transmission, raising concerns that MERS-CoV is far more common in the Middle East, Europe, and Africa than the reported confirmed cases.

Some more information here on the fatal case from MERS-cov in Tunisia.

This appears to confirm that the individual concerned had travelled for religous reasons and that his sons appear to have also been infected.

If nothing else this should signal loud and clear warnings to intending pilgrims that it may be very prudent to delay pilgrimage travel plans for a period until the dangers that are now confirmed can be considered as past, which at this point in time are anything but past.

Far more likely they are in the early stages of becoming horrifyingly deadly to the people of the world as a pandemic unlike anything ever previously witnessed by mankind in the history of our world.

Ministry of health: the death of a Tunisian citizen returning from the Gulf with coronavirus Mon 20 May 2013

In a communique issued today, [20 May 2013], the Ministry of Health announced the death of a Tunisian citizen returning from the Gulf with coronavirus. This individual was 66 years old and had diabetes, he was treated in the Fatima Bourguiba Hospital in Monastir for acute respiratory insufficiency [SARI - severe acute respiratory illness] upon his return from a trip to holy sites [?in Saudi Arabia] and Qatar where one of his sons lives. Medical evaluation of his family revealed 2 of his sons had symptoms [consistent with an influenza-like illness].

Here is a recent report from the WHO on the overall situation and history of the MERS-cov out of the Arabian Peninsular.

Unfortunately there remaind no word of any discovery of the source for this killer disease.

Novel coronavirus infection update: [18 May 2013]
-----------------
The Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia has informed WHO of an additional laboratory-confirmed case of infection with the novel coronavirus (nCoV)[MERS-CoV].

The patient is an 81-year-old woman with multiple coexisting medical conditions. She became ill on [28 Apr 2013] and is currently in critical but stable condition.

The patient was identified as part of the ongoing investigation into an outbreak that began in a health care facility since the beginning of April 2013. Re: <<Advancing Bird Flu-H5N1...Now following MERS and Ebola approaching PANDEMICS>>>
The issue of the H7N9 influenza outbreak in China hasnt been touched on here for a few days, so to bring readers up to speed on that outbreak we have this short summary of where the situation more or less currently is.

This is a very small extract from a quite extensive report that covers several aspects of investigation into this virus.

For the present it appears that the actions that the Chinese authorities may have been helpful in slowing the progress of the spread of this virus, or it could be changes in climate that are responsible.

Either way, fortunately it appears to be slowing in its spread, but the reservour and vector are yet to be positively identified though there is strong evidence that poultry do play a part, but there are knowledge gaps also which is concerning as this bug may again begin to spread to humans and if that happens our knowledge gaps will be a source of difficulty in fighting this virus.

Lets hope that it has or at least is beginning to burn itself out.

Main Findings
------------

Epidemiology
As of [22 Apr 2013], 104 confirmed cases, including 21 deaths, have been reported in Zhejiang (40 cases), Jiangsu (24), Henan (3), Anhui (3) provinces, Shanghai (33), and Beijing (1). Patients are predominantly older (median 62 years) and male (69 percent). Of 77 cases reported nationally for which data are available, 18 (23 percent) reported no identified contact with poultry; 56 (72 percent) reported some recent contact with live poultry and live poultry markets.
