Getting back to the topic, this in todays news...

ANZ lifts first quarter profit to $1.48b

heres the link..

Pity they have no loyalty to the people that gave them their start, which has led them to where they are today.

Re: Reserve Bank of Australia Blackmailed !!!
well if yesterdays news coming from one of the big 4 banks in Australia wasnt contempuous enough, take a look at todays news from the same institution.

Honestly do these guys go onto government, or come from government, with all the spin they seem to be able to full out of their rectums and ectually expect the ordinary bloke in the street to swallow their BS.

Heres todays headline and link...

........ANZ profit rises, flags rate rises

[link to au.finance.yahoo.com]

these people seem to be absolutely and totally committed to the bloody minded destruction of our economy.

Ive said it before.

WE, the ordinary people of Australia need to be banding together to for an "Australian C0-0perative Community Financial Instution", outside the the regulations and influences of the Stock markets and governments.

One that is run by and soley for the benefit of its members.

Its time some people with that management frontline skills who would like to come forward to put up their hands and begin to start this thing going.

At least then averyone will have a nationwide choice at something that can and would be a genuine option to what we are all currently having to live with, who knows.

If this model actually grew to sufficient size, we might even find existing credit unions etc, wanting to become members and adding their weight too.

IDEAS!!??

Honestly folks, with this "News" this bank is flagging its intentions to the other big banks and you can take any bet that they will follow.

If they keep this up, you wont be able to afford to move your mortgages because of the position they will already have you in.

You need to be moving your mortgages NOW, even if it will cost you, in the longer term you will save massively.

Credit Societies and Unions as well as Building Societies as a general always pass on Federal rate changes as soon as they occur, and they never make any other rate changes.

Well thats as much as I understand it.

The Permanent Building Socirty that we moved to certainly guarantee that practice, as ask the question.

Another thought here too, these moves a very strategically being made now, ahead of the next round of energy hikes that our lying Prime Minister promised we would never see, and are now being faced with incremental increases over time.

Pretty soon none of us will be able to afford 3 square meals a day.

I think that I already mentioned this earlier, but it wont hurt to revisit the subject.

Recently the charitable organization "Meals on Wheels" were asking for more delivery volunteers.

Why?

Because it was taking longer than normal to get their meals delivered.

Why?

Because the delivery people were having to wait longer for the recipients to GET OUT OF BED, in order to accept their meals.

Why?

Because that was the only form of warmth that they can now afford.

Welcome to the "NEW BANANA REPUBLIC", its called

AUSTRALIA...

compliments to our governments who serve themselves and NOT the people who elect them!!

It would be good to hear some feedback and other thoughts and suggestions from other ordinary Aussies on this subject.

Surely we have not become so dissempowered that we have been paintd into a corner where we can be held to complete ransom with no hope of bringing about some beneficial changes.

We sure as hell cant rely on our governments to do anything, which means that it is up to us.

So we need suggestions...

I like the million dollar retirement thing but please oh please make it for everyone 45 plus so I can retire. banana2
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10433234

Mate I am retired..early so just like you I would probably miss out too, just like Kevies $1,000.00 gift (bribe) to taxpayers a few years ago.

Because I wasnt paying taxes anymore...I got nothing.

Oh BTW I wasnt recieving any "handouts"/ benefits either, just to clarify that one.

Mind you, I didnt really agree with his Santa Clause bribery of the Australian community.

Most people just took the money and ran, who wouldnt, but the way he actually defined the real distribution of that deal was close to total corruption.

It was complete contempt.

What happened to his magnificent million dollar talk fest he sponsored, it happened, then what...total nothing, what a job that one was, where was the the committment to listen and act, it was just another elaborate talk fest, all smoke and mirrors.

I saw absolutely no result from that massively expensive event come into being, it just dissapeared under the carpet.

It reary made me glad I didnt get it, because I felt absolutely NO loyalty or affinity towards his so "in your face" contempt for the Australian people.

Which at the end of the day, that was all that exercise was, a clear and clean demonstration that he could buy all the votes he wanted, ( with our money anyway!)..what he didnt count on was that back stabber that did the usual Labor thing and screwed him over like they all do and have done every time they have a shot at running this country.

I'd recon that it'll be decades before they (Labor) ever get another go...little Johnnie had over a decade based on the oppositions prior ineptitude, what these jockers all need to understand about the Australian voter is that while they "appear" to apethetic, any they probably are, but the mistake these jokers make is that the Aussie voters have VERY long memories.

Anyway after a few decades of observation, thats my quick summery of the political environment here.

Hope it changes one day.

If it doesent soon then, "We the People", WILL do it for us all, that much I am confident of.

Not old enough to remember little johnies baby bonus bribe ?

The baby bonus is not uniform: a
child born into a poor household is apparently worth only $500 annually, while children from highearning
households are worth $2,500. Single mothers - who have no other way to support their children
- will go back to work, and hence miss out on most of the benefit. The biggest payout will go to
couples where he earns enough to support the family for five years, and she made over $50,000 in the
year before they had the baby.

It is not just the banks that are greedy and need our ire but their stockholders. They are also pushing for more profits so their stocks can go up in value. All these people should be named and taxed on their stock increases and also more. That millionaires only pay 30% tax increases the desire to 'play' with money and to have so much more than they actually need.Tax them so there is no incentive to want more.

This arose from the mistaken believe that if you let the rich have more money they will look after the poor. No. They dont care about the poor. They just want more money because they
are not satisfied, they are not happy, they are not content and so want more.

100% correct.

Even the way the Government hands out First Home Loan incentives, then later moves the goal posts with increased interest rates making those people no longer able to afford their new homes, and after investing all their lifes savings and labours into their loved and cared for homes.

What happens...we get a shift of those properties into the hands of the wealthy investors, who then rent them back to the people who once owned them.

Whats more though, is that those same investors get huge tax breaks to sweeten their positions even more.

Its all just shifting wealth to the top yet again.

I believe that share holders information is on Public Record somewhere, does anyone know if this is correct and if so where that information might be found?

From a recent post just couple above...

At least the Rudd hand HELPED THE POOR !

Mr. Rudd, technically "helped the poor", by playing Santa Clause with Australias painfully accumulated surplusses, which was just a cheap trick to get people to like him, a cheap political manover.

And to be honest, quite a disgusting demonstration of buying votes.

What THAT move did do was demonstrate his complete contempt of the Australian citizen, by showing just how easily he could conn the community to get his way.

After that demonstration, where are we today?

Well, our four big banks also learnt a pretty good lesson from that little exercise in sociology 101, now they are all too keen to ignore all and every and demonstrate their complete contempt toward their customers and just raise their interest rates at will, they dont care if the ordinary joe loses his home, they know that some rich investor will take over and still they will get their money.

And by the way, just why did out interest rates have to go up so heavily in Mr. Rudds early days.

Maybe if he'd been a better statesman and managed those funds better those rates could have been kept where previous governments had them!

They have been doing the same thing here. They can only lend to large corps. to keep them afloat and for themselves(the banks). They can not let all that money out into circulation because if they do hyper-inflation will result. We are getting it anyway in food prices but the worst is yet to come. There is a method to their madness. This is why they can not lend to the average person.

INFLATION IS TOO MUCH MONEY CHASING TOO FEW GOODS(i.e.- food and necessities)

I do not know about Australia's banks but in this country all the big banks that handle 90% of the money are on a wing and a pray. These banks are BAC, Citigroup, Wells Fargo and others. They are allowed to have what is called level 3 assets and these level 3 assets are not accounted for on the annual statements. They are massive losses over many years. These banks are all insolvent and would fail if it was not for the FED.

When Lehman collapsed and we saw the merger of a lot of financial institutions I believe they were simply merging insolvent banks with barely solvent ones to keep the system afloat. THINGS WITH MOST LARGE BANKS ARE MUCH WORSE THAN WE ARE BEING TOLD. I am afraid when the system starts to come undone WW3 will begin, sorry to have to say this.

Hey Arkay,

I have patience so you have time. Hate to say it but I'm not going anywhere tounge

Interested in what comes out of this: The G20 is a forum for informal discussion which seeks to tackle economic and financial issues of global importance, and to promote world-wide financial stability, as well as strong, sustainable and balanced growth.

Happening in Mexico this year.

The G20 consists of 19 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Republic of Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, and the United States, as well as the European Union. Together, these countries represent around 90% of global GDP and two thirds of the world’s population. The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund also participate on a permanent basis.

The priorities for the work of the G20 in 2012 are the following:

to restore economic stability, as a essential pre-condition for growth and the creation of jobs;
to promote both the strengthening of financial systems and financial inclusion in order to boost economic growth;
to improve the international financial architecture so it is fit for a fully interconnected global economy;
to make progress on the issue of food security; and
to encourage sustainable development, including a comprehensive plan, an infrastructure agenda, energy efficiency, green growth and financing of sustainable development.

I understand that here in Australia the banks use the same "fractional" system as most other places, but that is about where my knowledge stops.

To be honest, I believe that the single most destructive mechanism that the banks use is "fractional" banking.

Without it, it's difficult to see how any bank could get themselves into too much of an unmanageable situation.

But they do, they have, and its us that will be getting them off hook again, unfortunately.

Personally, I say let em sink.

Excellent.

But, with your indulgence, Im hoping that we might be going on a bit of a journey.

At this stage we make two.

Over time, and with patience and perseverance and some creative thinking there might be a way that some constructive new ways of doing things can be discovered or suggested that can and will be beneficial to everyone, at least we and others here are talking about and that surely is the starting point.

The saying "that the cream always rises to the top", I think is appropriate here, all it will take will be some comment hopefully here where it will not fall on to deaf ears, and from there an idea can take on a life of its own.

Thats my hope anyway, guess Im just a hopeless optimist, but I think you have to be that otherwise...why anything!

But we do seem to share consistant parallels in our concepts and aspirations of what we see as a better world for us and our prodgeny to look forward to spending their lives in, and I honestly believe that it is that and those things that they should expect to "inherit" form us as their parents and leaders/example models.

This is exactly where I think that just about all our generation has missed the plot, but I wont give up, not now, not ever.

A good issue is always a good issue, therefore you fight tooth and nail for it, if you dont you really arent much of a contributor to the world we live in...and I know without any doubt that you stand upright with me on this one...correct?

Well, Well, Well!!!

What do we have here?

New research by one of Europe's biggest banks suggests that Australian banks are hiking interest rates to protect profit margins, not to cover higher funding costs as they have insisted.

But the Australian Bankers' Association has dismissed the study and says lenders may have to raise their rates again.

The study by Societe Generale shows nearly all funding costs for Australian lenders have fallen in the last six months.

And Societe Generale's head of strategy in Asia, Christian Carrillo, says the banks' claims about rising costs are dubious.

What I also find totally inconsistant with the drivel that the big 4 try to feed us with when they attempt to blame some incomprehensible technical jargon about their borrowing costs, is this.

If their costs are in fact real, then why arent the building societies, credit unions etc experiencing the same difficulties?

They only follow Reserve Bank movements so the simplest of kindergarden logic says something is very inconsistent with those "claims"

Put simply...

Its just BS, pure and simple.

But I'll predict that rates wont move next month either.

Why?

Because people are leaving the banks and in droves.

They are voting with their feet and the big 4 dont want the gap to widen any more.

If they can influence the Reserve Bank in any way that they can they WILL do it.

They have only one focus and that is to make profits for their stockholders.

RBA backs banks on funding cost claims

Who can dissagree that the RBA and the big 4 arent in bed together???

Either that or the "blackmail" accusation has credibility!!

Now having read these conflicting positions on their "costs", you can only come to the concluion that if the Foreign banks can establish that their "costs" have become cheaper, and our banks including the RBA are saying the opposite then one would be compelled to conclude that our banks, including the RBA must be incompitent in the way they are conducting their business and their business decisions must also therefore be critisized.

There simply is no other alternative way to interpret these conflicting views.

Yet another reason to distance ourselves from them.

If they cant be relied on to make well founded decisions on such fundemental matters who would be prepared to let them manage their lifes efforts.

Call it Blackmail, distant collusion or whatever you like...these crooks are screwing over the Australian families and workers...

from todays news..06/03/2012

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) is expected to hold interest rates at their current level when it meets on Tuesday.

An AAP survey of 13 economists last week revealed all expected the RBA to hold the cash rate at 4.25 per cent for March.

The RBA kept the official interest rate on hold at its February 7 meeting, after two 25 basis points cuts in November and December.

maybe its time for all the ordinary folks to start asking those hard questions.

Last month it was a lay down deal that rates would drop, instead they stayed on hold while the "banks" raised their rates regardless.

This month the Reserve are really showing us that they are clearly pandering to the big banks..

This is an absolute in your face ...who gives a sh*t about Australian citizens attitude.

Well if the govenor of the Reserve Bank cant show some independant leadership, perhaps its time he left the job.

It would be a reasonable assumption that all our banks would do that to anything that moves in this country.

And our politicians in general, would be willing observers.

Isnt that exactly what IS happening right now?

AND here we go again....

ANZ is now not only ignoring the Reserve Bank and unilaterally raising inyerest rates again, but this...

"Unfortunately what we see is the idea of stability and great pronouncements about what's happening in Europe used as a essentially a blank cheque for Australian banks to pass on what ever costs they want to customers," he said.

"The whistle was blown on this recently and in fact Guy Debelle from the Reserve Bank came out and said and actually indicated that recent interest rate movements from the major banks were about maintaining profitability." ANZ's Australian chief executive Phil Chronican says the move was necessary.
