My VA doctor is cutting off my PAIN MEDS!!!! WTF!!!!

the reason you and i are tested as in drugs is they want to be sure its in your system! your script!

If its not there then they assume your selling it! Trust me if they find none they cut you off forever, itll go ( the info ) into a database which all pharmamcies have access to ! If you doctor shop nowadays youll be found out!

after awhile opiates can cause even more pain. read about glial reactions and how opiates effect them

many people with chronic pain find that after they get off the pills their pain is actually lessened!

I wouldnt trust the VA. They dont want safe meds for obvious reasons.

I have been treated the same way, I take morphine for severe chronic pain due to a damaged spine and have a number of other health issues that include pain as well. I've not been treated well at all and am disabled and unable to care for myself on my own.
You have my sympathy and understanding, the doctors here in canada are no better, I can imagine what you must be going through. A previous doctor tried to take me off the morphine and I tried to stop but it was hell, she kicked me out of her practice in the end and wouldn't listen when I told her I was really unwell.
My new doctor decided to do testing and what do you know they found lots of stuff wrong and that I was telling the truth, she stopped testing me for drugs and they have had to remove my gallbladder, my liver is in bad shape and I'm not a drinker, my spleen isn't looking to good either and now I'm waiting to hear if the lesions in my brain are multiple sclerosis.
I know how hard it is to go from one doctor to another but there has to be some doctor who's got a heart, if you have to get someone to take video of you at home so that at least there is some actual proof of your pain and disability, have people in your life come to your appointments with you, thats what I had to do to get someone to listen to me.

what about natural therapy? like magnets? I have heard magnets are wonderful for reducing pain.

You could also look for an emotion code or body code practitioner who is new and looking for patients to get started for free. It can be done from a distance since its energy healing using magnets.

Yes thank you for your service OP and it's disgusting how our returning soldiers are treated. I have chronic pain as a result of a botched surgery 15 years ago and only recently found a pain mgmt doc who truly gets it and prescribes something that works and does not treat me like a heroin addict.

My primary doc told me, when she referred me to him, that if I was unhappy with him there are plenty of other pain mgmt docs. Can you try to get to another one?

Also, as disheartening and humiliating as it is, it does help to go to a psychiatrist and allow yourself to cry in front of him and let him know how bad this pain is and that nobody seems to be taking it seriously. Most people try to put up a good front and act like everythng is okay, but in your case it's not okay and somebody in authority needs to be your advocate. That or a friend or family member who can confirm what hell you live with on a daily basis.

If you talk to your doctor about things on here they probably are going to think you lost it.. Thus always piss testing to catch weed , but since your always clean they are now thinking it's the medication.

Ya, My Wife came to my appointment because she was pissed off. He started mean and loosened up a bit after he heard what I was going through. I have tried everything through 15 years of this, and the narcotics are the only thing that lets me feel somewhat normal and able to work. That being said I am only on 15 mg of er morphine twice a day, and pop a perc at night along with it....only if I am having a bad day. I would go throgh 30 perc in 2 months. they have cracked down soooo much on opiods that the people that really need them to functions dont get them....and get treated like some junky. I did try maloxicam and seems to be doing ok with it. I have notice enought relief to tytrate down.

We will see. I agree with what a lot of people are saying about the way our vets comming home are being treated.

I am no combat VET, however I did get hurt on duty that ended my career. I have friends that are combat vets, had a limb blown off getting treated the same way.

with cronic pain, comes depression, depression causes more cronic pain and round and round we go.

Like the AC said, unless you have beeen though cronic pain, you can not have any Idea what someone is going through.

Might wanna talk to your doc. Could be a good reason, and since most of them get paid to be the new pill pushers...

They (Big-Pharma) is trying to get non-cut Oxy on the market. Your doc may be weening you off the Morphine in preparation for these new pills. From what I've seen, they are said to be 10x as effective as current meds.

It is difficult dealing with the VA.
I've been going there since 1996.
Believe it or not it's improved. lol
My advise is take it to the top. Keep complaining until you get what you want.
OMG my record is kind of bad, I've yelled at the VA doctors for being incompetent fucks who can't work in the private sector because they would be sued.
However now I have the best doc's and they listen to me.
I've gotten second opinions from civilian docs the VA hates that.

I had my military records sent to me along with my records I have other peoples records their ssi#'s included.

I'm not sure what to do about that, it would piss me off if someone had my ssi#.

That's the problem, you are always clean. If you don't have drugs in your system, they assume you are selling your pills. Standard operating procedure.

I am getting the same treatment from private medical doctors. They are so worried about abuse of prescription drugs....its become a "political thing".....everybody is cracking down.....so doctors are forced to cut back....


And, lets be honest. The VA, the US Government, The Medical System in this country doesnt give a fucking rats ass about you. Go ahead, blow your head off because of the pain...no one will care....

When I mean clean...I mean they only find the meds I am perscibed @the perscibed dosage. IE the Morphine.

Thats what pisses me off. Let me be comforable and I will work on comming down. I would LOVE to not be dependant on drugs. We are trying other options....Meloxacam and Nortriptaline. They have helped a lot. in one week I will try to tytrate down the evening dose. Should be fine. I have no problem with no opiods, i understand. What I dont like is being treated like all I want is drugs. in 2 years I never asked for more or a higher dose because it worked well for me.

Find yourself what is known as Pallative Care MD's. This is for end of the line cases where nothing else can be done.

If you end up like me, and find out all this pain is from bio-warfare testing from the 1950's which "they invented" you can find help much faster. Go to the Desert Storm website and read about 'mycoplasma's', then talk with one of those victims.

I have volunteered at our local clinic...the staff is overwhelmed with patients (no excuses)..the wait is usually 3 months by sheer volume. At the end of the day the staff goes home to family and you just left in a pile on someone's desk. You need to be the captain of your ship and document document document...the squeaky wheel gets the grease in this case.

My husband is disable vet... they did the same thing to him he is 30% disable (still works 2 jobs most 7 days a week) he was getting 100 per month. Dropped him from their prescription of 2 every 4 hours...do the math 2pills x 6 hours x 7 days a week (12 pills x 31 days a month =471 their script) then cut him to 30 a month... no warning not nothing...do the doctors even read the warning labels...he just crashed big time....and you can't get the doctor to return phone calls the girls in the office can only leave messages....(the clerks have their own boss as do the nurses and the doctors) and NO one in house that is the boss over them all...they don't care that they put the patient or the family in danger.

I seen many vets come in that would lose their tempers over medication issues...and the clerks can only say I'm sorry .

My husband had double knees surgery and wanted to get 100% disability while he healed, we waited and waited, got my state rep involved and got it straightened out in less than month. The VA called us 2 and 1/2 years later to address this issue. The VFW and those types of groups are helpful.. but also try 877-AID-VETS

I am 100% service connected disabled, went to VA doc in 03 with back pain, doc said start taking this Oxycodone and Morphine, been taking it ever since, started out 90 60mg morphine Sulfate and 90 15mg Oxycodone a month, was too much because I was too drugged out all the time so I cut down on the morphine to 2 a day, morning and night and told the doc to stop sending 90, can't say it was a great life but it was still worth living and I could still be somewhat productive, so after taking this shit for 9 years last month my primary care doc says "I'm cutting one of your meds off, your choice which one", I kept the oxycodone because it kicked in faster, he cut the morphine to 30 the first month and then nothing..............WTF!!, can you spell withdrawal?, called the patient advocate, what a joke!, they sounded like a advocate for the doc and the VA, gonna call DAV tomorrow and start looking for email addresses, Obama, whitehouse, senators etc etc and gonna forward this forum to everyone I can find. This is total bullshit, getting thrown under the bus for what?, I didn't ask for this shit, it was prescribed by a VA doctor as the best treatment for my chronic pain, I hope this thing explodes in their face, or even better up their asses.

You've just described the seventh level of hell......

May I suggest that you try something that I HOPE will help you in getting rid of some of your pain.......

Detox your body as thoroughly and as religously as you can...there are many different ways to do it....

You can......eat a lot of Granny Smith apples, (go on a granny smith apple fast for 24 hours).....

And follow up with a daily detox plan......

I use oil pulling......If I miss one or two days, the pain my body is in lays me out flat.....so I've learned to make time for it no matter what....

The important thing is that keeping your body detoxified helps in keeping the pain demon away from your door to varying degrees.....

Also, look into using turmeric and black pepper as a dietary supplement....I am just starting this......I'm doing it because I hate the fact that my doc has power to cut off pain relief when I need it. I want to find a natural way to combat pain so that I don't have to rely on his questionable mercy for relief.....

Also - are the prescription anti-inflammatories helpful at all? Like Indomethacin, or Celebrex....For me - these meds have given me a new lease on life.......and sometimes docs lead out with the pain meds and don't consider prescribing these....but I've suffered for years and have only JUST found relief with these meds....
I hope that this helps......please understand that - as someone who lives with daily chronic and acute pain.....I take this very seriously......my suggestions are not meant to minimize your situation. They are coming from one person to another who deals with this sort of thing too.

Yep. I love the herb but it makes you more aware of everything....to include pain if you are acutely in it.
