Ayumu the chimp can remember the location and order of a set of numbers in less time than it takes the average human to blink.

The prodigous chimp can solve the puzzle in 60 milliseconds, at Kyoto University, Japan.

Ayumu is the son of Ai, a chimpanzee whose intelligence has been studied for over 30 years by Professor Tetsuro Matsuzawa.

umm, that's because this "human" race are actually devolved chimpanzees.

More like corrupted chimpanzees.
No one has ever seen a perfect circle, nor a perfectly straight line, yet everyone knows what a circle and a straight line are.
Perceived circles or lines are not exactly circular or straight, and true circles and lines could never be detected since by definition they are sets of infinitely small points.

I've seen it before. Basically I think the chimp is that fast because it's learned the patterns and is not distracted like humans. Single goal in mind.
I love physics. It bonds us eternally, it's what makes our computers work, it's what's in my morning cup of coffee, it's the thing that keeps the universe from vanishing due to lack of belief...

False.
1: Evolution does develop or devolve. Merely change to suit the evironment.
Bear are no more superior to dinosaurs simply because they came later. They merely came from a genetic line that was better suited to the NEW environment.

2: The evolutionary theory does not believe we came from chimps, or gorillas or orangutans. But we all came from a common anscestor. So they are less our "parent" species, and more like a brother species.

3: While it is true chimps have quicker brains, that does not mean they are smarter (or dumber).
Simply faster.
If a man was asked what 2 + 2 was
Perhaps the average man could answer faster than Stephen Hawking.
But he is not smarter than Stephen hawking.
Now figure that you said it so fast, that Stephen Hawkings somewhat diseased/disfugred brain could not capture it in time. But perhaps the average man could.
He is still no smarter than stephen hawking, atleast not in mathematics or physics (or he could be, but not because the man can answer a question faster).

"If one understands that socialism is not a share-the-wealth programme, but is in reality a method to consolidate and control the wealth, then the seeming paradox of super-rich men promoting socialism becomes no paradox at all. Instead, it becomes logical, even the perfect tool of power-seeking megalomaniacs.

Communism or more accurately, socialism, is not a movement of the downtrodden masses, but of the economic elite."

Lightning fast at tic tac toe perhaps but still unable to read.

The human cerebellum handles repetitive real time tasks such as coordinated motion and procedural memory - which requires longer term memory to be utilized. The cerebellum actually is solving puzzles like the chimps do constantly and invisibly.

It would be interesting to see if we let him watch a hundred million games of Keno and predict the most likely set of numbers that will come up next, deducing them from the the highest probability of sequence which has not shown up yet.

Re: The smartest chimp in the world has a memory faster than a blink of an eye. Much smarter than the most advanced of humans.
I watched along, convinced I would be able to recreate the patterns. It did not take long. Each number has a unique shape, in just under 30 seconds or so, I taught my brain to look for it and "feel" it. I was pausing the image after the numbers appeared, and pointing out in my mind each box that represented a number. I got half right. That is 1 through 9. In a row. I bet with more practice this would be easily achievable with very little thought. It felt like more of game than a challenge.

I was impressed with the chimp though, but I believe he has simply learned the physical look of the numbers, and does not understand the values they represent. Therefore, I believe we could teach the chimp any set of shapes in a row that we determined. And it would be able to comprehend enough to repeat those patterns regardless of their 2d geometry on a computer screen.

Great game. So far I've done 10 in a row right, I missed the first one, not quite understanding the numbers were not in a specific order, ie 1.2.3.4.5. The numbers were more like 2.4.5.8.9 or 1.2.5.7.9. But I got past that and now am flying through. Apparently I have a knack for spotting patterns in a fraction of a second. I quite enjoy this, thank you for posting the link.
