The smartest chimp in the world has a memory faster than a blink of an eye. Much smarter than the most advanced of humans.

I watched along, convinced I would be able to recreate the patterns. It did not take long. Each number has a unique shape, in just under 30 seconds or so, I taught my brain to look for it and "feel" it. I was pausing the image after the numbers appeared, and pointing out in my mind each box that represented a number. I got half right. That is 1 through 9. In a row. I bet with more practice this would be easily achievable with very little thought. It felt like more of game than a challenge.
I was impressed with the chimp though, but I believe he has simply learned the physical look of the numbers, and does not understand the values they represent. Therefore, I believe we could teach the chimp any set of shapes in a row that we determined. And it would be able to comprehend enough to repeat those patterns regardless of their 2d geometry on a computer screen.
