Some tips on reading the King James version of the Bible to know the Lord better.
I hope that you will find the following points helpful...

*Read the Bible the same way that you would read the California Highway Code, or a Singer Sewing Machine Manual. ie...Do not look for fancyful interpreations.

*Stay with the King James version. In my opinion many of the modern versions have been done at the instigation of the Devil to lead you astray.

*10 to 1 someone at GLP will go on about how the KJV was corrupted because King James was a homosexual or whatever. Perhaps there is some truth in all of this or perhaps it is all a dammable lie. I don´t know for sure right now.

*What I can say however is that not withstanding that a few corruptions may have sneaked in here or there, is that the men who translated it (or nearly all of them at any rate) did honestly do a good work. And that I have not come upon anything that strikes me as a false teaching.

*If it was true that the KJV where riddled with false teachings then ask yourself why it is that so many of todays backslidden Devil controled Churches have replaced the KJV with corrupt modern translations. After all if the KJV where corrupt then it is logical that the Devil would remain satisfied with it.

*If you do not have a copy of the KJV then go and buy a copy NOW. I´m telling you that the time will soon come when it will be even more difficult to find one that it is already. It has already been withdrawn from many bookstores on the quiet. Try 2nd hand bookstores, charity stores, garage sales, etc. Or you could ask the receptionist at a hotel or motel if they have a spare copy of the Gidions Bible that is in many rooms.

*As you read the Bible most likely your mind will be filled with many questions and you will have a strong feeling that you must have the correct answer right now and that if you don´t get it that confusion and doubt will rapidly follow.

*Relax. Jot the question down or remember it. It is not so important that it has to be solved instantly. Half of the "so urgent" questions you will most likly forget anyway. And the answers to the other half will come to you as you continue to read the Bible and to grow in knowledge.

*Granted that some of the language will appear to you to be "old fashioned". But remember that the alternative is to read a modern version that is filled with the Devils lies.

*Obviously if The Lord guides you diffrently then follow his word. But otherwise I would suggest that you start with Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and read them through several times until you have a good grounding in what they teach. Some of the other books will appeal to you more than others no doubt, so just read as the Spirit guides you.

*Be prepaired for some shocks. As a "baby" Christian several decades ago I (embarrased to admit it now) actually believed in the lie of reincarnation.

*But perhaps it did some good after all because nowadays I do not just blindly accept what someone says. Instead I examine it and check it out. Remember that the Devil and his false teachings crept into the Church from the very begining.

*Keep reading on a regular daily basis (I should talk), even if it seems a bit difficult at times. Remember that "someone" is working on your will to reinforce exactly that kind of feeling.

*May you find The Lord quickly for time is getting very short.

Bible scholarship is mch better now. The KJV contains many inaccracies corrected by later versions. Yes, King James was a notorius homosexual but that has nothing to do with anything.

1 out of ever 4 words in the King James Bible is wrong. Study the original Hebrew Greek and Aramaic.

Excerpt from "Bible Study Tips:
[link to www.tentmaker.org]

================================================

The King James Bible has been reprinted many times. There have been hundreds of spelling mistakes in the KJV, some very embarrassing. Seems the Holy Spirit was incapable of "inspiring" the printers while He supposedly "inspired" the translators. In the 1611 editions of the KJV, some had "Then cometh Judas" in Matt. 26:36, which should have read "Then cometh Jesus." The two editions of the first edition of the 1611 KJV differed from each other in several respects. In later printings, one became known as the "Wicked Bible" because it omitted the word "not" from the seventh commandment. Another was nicknamed the "Unrighteous Bible" because the "unrighteous would inherit the Kingdom. There was the "Vinegar" KJV because it contained the "Parable of the Vinegar." There was also the "Ears to Ear Bible" as well as others.

In the late nineteenth century, the American Bible Society examined six editions of the King James Bible and discovered over 24,000 variations between the editions. Surely English translations of the Bible are NOT inerrant.

The phrase "Him that liveth for ever and ever," (Rev. 5:14), "our Lord Jesus Christ," (Eph. 3:14) "and he trembled and astonished, said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said to him…" (Acts 9:6) occurs in not a single Greek manuscript. The phrase "book of life" in Rev. 22:19 also occurs in no known Greek manuscript on which the New Testament writings are based. So where did the King James translators get these and other scriptures which are NOT in the Greek manuscripts? From the corrupt Roman Catholic Latin Vulgate!

The King James Bible contains references to mythological characters which do not actually exist. Their knowledge of Hebrew was NOT very good. They were filled with superstitions and some of them crept into their translation. Therefore we find "unicorns" (Deut. 33:17; Ps. 22:21; Isa. 34:7; etc.), the satyr (Isa. 13:21; 34:14), the dragon (Deut. 32:33; Job 30:29; Ps. 44:19; etc.), and the cockatrice (Isa. 11:8; 14:29; 59:5; Jer. 8:17). Jack P. Lewis in his excellent book "The English Bible, from KJV to NIV" writes speaking of the KJV translators, "They probably thought the creatures existed. They did encounter trouble in Deuteronomy 33:17 where the unicorns has horns (plural), but the translators solved the problem by reading "unicorns." The arrowsnake (Gen. 49:11, margin) is also a creature unknown to zoology….Even when translators are not consciously selecting words that reflect their religious bias, the words they select DO influence the readerīs thinking."

King James made the translators agree to 15 rules which they had to abide by in translating. One was "The old Eccleciastical Words to be kept, viz, the Word "Church" not to be translated "Congregation" &c." Some Christians felt that we shouldnīt be using a term like "church" which clearly had pagan and mythological attachments to it. In the seventeenth century pagan as well as Jewish temples were also called "churches." The real origin of the word "church" comes from the Greek word "Kirke" (Circe in Anglo-Saxon), NOT ekklesia or kiriakon as some theologians suggest. Kirke was the mythological daughter of the Sun God who had power to turn men into animals. (For much more information on this amazing discovery, write to Tentmaker Publications.)

The word "Lucifer" in the KJV has NO manuscript support whatsoever in Isaiah 14:12. The term is Latin, not Hebrew. Again this was borrowed from the corrupt Latin Vulgate.

Many books have pointed out the thousands of errors contained in the King James Bible. How anyone can call it "inerrant" is really beyond comprehension, yet many Christians do. This speaks of the sad condition Christians are in regarding proper ways to study. Most denominational teachings are designed to continue to perpetuate error, NOT truth. One must get out of denominational influence if they are going to be led by the Spirit of God into all Truth. (John 16:13) Of all the books on the subject, I would recommend most "The English Bible From KJV to NIV" by Jack P. Lewis, published by Baker Book House, 1991. This book points out many errors in other leading translations of the Greek and Hebrew Scriptures making it very plain that there is no such thing as an "inerrant" translation of the Hebrew and Greek Scriptures. While Bible Translations are very useful tools, if one trusts their translation too much without understanding that it is NOT without errors, one may really get burned badly from their Bible. I was greatly deceived by the King James Bible AND by those who promoted it as the "Authorized" Inerrant Word of God. This was and is simply a gross misleading lie.

Quite frankly I see no good reason why I should place any trust in what the American Bible Society says.

The fact is that the KJV not withstanding that there may or may not be some errors in it "rings true". Do you not think that The Lord who knows everything is aware of these things.

I also notice that you have not suggested another Bible version to take itīs place. Is that perhaps because you would rather that we donīt read the Bible in the first place?

I thought this was tips on reading the King James?

Here is a real tip..

2 Corinthians 13:1 " This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witness shal every word be established."

That means this..Not only does it take two flesh wintness to do Gods work. But here is the spritual side of it. You must have two or three verses to confirm the Word. When you follow this scenario, you cannot be taken in by one verse Billy Bobs pastors.
Tip 2:
Christ gives hidden manna.
Christ feeds His sheep with hidden spiritual truths that very few see. Read John chapter 8:all a little closer to validate what I just shared..

==================================================

No, I never even implied I would discourage anyone from reading and studying the Bible. I was just trying to point out that the KJV is by no means somehow especially inspired or "sacred." Not to mention much of the archaic verbiage and sentence structure that can sometimes make the plain meaning hard to understand. And it was not translated from the original languages and earlier manuscripts, but the Latin vulgate.

I myself use and compare a number of translations and study aids -- the meaning is generally self evident if context is not ignored. I do use the KJV, but I think the NIV (New International Version) is one of the better translations. Not that I am any scholar, but many very conservative scholars also speak highly of the NIV.

Modern scholarship in the Biblical field and all the related fields (archeology, history, manuscripts, etc.) has not detracted from the authenticity and inspiration of the scriptures, but rather confirmed it more than ever. But thereīs no need to limit oneself to the KJV just because it was one of the first translations into "modern" English. And yes, there are some bad translations -- for example ones that donīt even claim to be translations but paraphrases, such as "The Living Bible."

I believe that the vast increase and availability of Biblical study aids in the last hundred years is Godīs will and part of His plan, and also part of the end-time "increase in knowledge" spoken of in the book of Daniel.

And by the way, the full article I linked to in my previous post has many good tips on Bible study.

The most important tip youīll EVER read:

First go to Google and type in
"American Baconiana"

Then read everything you can about it.

Considering that Francis Bacon authored the King James version of the Bible, it is important to know his methods and techniques. Which of course will prove more fruitful if you have a facsimile copy of the original 1st edition.

I donīt think anyone knows for certain that King James was a homo. I think that rumor was put out there so Christians would accept the NIV īnew world orderī edition. The new edition is given out with rumor and innuendo - no thanks.

"I believe that the vast increase and availability of Biblical study aids in the last hundred years is God´s will and part of His plan, and also part of the end-time "increase in knowledge" spoken of in the book of Daniel."

That is part of the problem. Read the Bible not the study aids. 100 years ago people did not have such vast amounts of distractions that (apart from perhaps a few) are much more of a hinderance than a help. Has our general level of understanding dropped so sharply in the last 100 years that we are incapable of reading the Bible as a stand alone book. Er...on second thoughts...

Whatever ...

I never said I donīt "just read" the scriptures (as well as study) -- you are excellent at putting words in my mouth. If you want to remain ignorant of the knowledge that is available as a result of God working through Spirit-led expositors and researchers ... be my guest. And I donīt mean being spoon fed -- true knowledge is verifiable for oneself.

I donīt see a concordance, a lexicon, Bible dictionaries, comparing translations, etc. as an evil. I suppose you are the type who wonīt consider anything that isnīt presented by your own group or denomination, or anything that challenges a particular paradigm or interpretation you have established in your mind. I prefer to grow in grace and knowledge -- that is one of the reasons for the Church (and Iīm not talking about some organization) the gifts and talents God has distributed among it. So if you want, go ahead andlock your door and just read your King James Bible.

It is a common fantasy that the King James is somehow superior to all other modern translations.
They all have mistakes, and the King James is not particularly reliable itself.
If accuracy is that important to you, there is no easy way out.You have to learn Hebrew and Greek.

The only part of this thread worth reading is that part you keep trying to condemn--344īs contribution.
That makes me think you know your blather about King James is insincere, and you are not willing that others fail to be deceived by your silly adherence to the fiction that there is something just wonderful about that error ridden version.
Probably the 2nd most common bs that people relate about that KJV is that they do not have any trouble with the archaic language it employs. That is just silliness, especially since their command of language is often similar to yours, which most charitably could be called īfunctionalī.
Anyone who is being honest has to admit that using a language which is not his usual everday language is at least somewhat of a hindrance.

ac 186,

When you read the California Highway Code you study it carefully because you want something, in this case to pass the test and get a driving license. Therefore you will give it the best attention that you are capable of. This is not something that most people do to the same extent with a novel, unless perhaps itīs a particularly good one.

ac344,

"If you want to remain ignorant of the knowledge that is available as a result of God working through Spirit-led expositors and researchers ... be my guest"

What you say is true enough and I quite readly admit that I read quite a lot of what other people say about the Bible and find that in many cases it does give me insights that I have missed.

However the origional purpose of this thread was to get people who have not read the Bible ever, or who have not read it for a long time to get started again. So what I am saying to them is "start right" get the best Bible version in English that is available. And yes I am saying to stay away from other material (I will admit that I should have made it more clear) for now. The problem being as I am sure you are aware is that there is also a lot of false stuff out there and people who are new to Christanity are in much greater danger of being enticed along one of the Devils many false paths. Later on when they have a good basic knowledge then by all means start exploring.

No I donīt have any particular "brand" of Christianity that I wish to get anyone to join. In fact I would say that from what I can see Bibically true churches are few and far between nowadays. It is my sincere hope that people looking for a church will find a true one.

Itīs interesting to me, that the 1611 Authorized King James Version is the only volume of scripture that is not copywrited by humans, some editions have maps and pictures and such that are copywrited, but not the scriptural text itself, like the scriptural text of the modern versions are. Itīs also interesting to me, that like is the case with Hebrew and Greek, even the English translations of the KJV scriptures can be gleaned for Gematria [ word measuring ] and equadistant letter sequencing.
