If you are, you can call the base operator and ask them to connect you to the casualty command post. They will have someone working 24/7. If the mother knows how to get hold of her son's 1st sgt. or another supervisor, they can do this for her. The message to the family comes from the Red Cross, so it may take some time to get to her. If you can't contact anyone else, you can try the Red Cross. My husband used to do casualty assistance in the AF before they outsourced it.
