Just got 33 pts for MASON playing scrabble !
It seems like every time I play scrabble or words with friends atleast two of the words are very similar. Sometimes alot of the words are and sometimes it almost looks like a story. Let's see, for instance yesterday I saw BONER & HOAR " my mom actually put down BONER " ZIG & ZAG w/ one Z & on the same board WHIP & IT were touching each other . I also saw these three words & all three were each touching , MOB, VINY & FELON.
I love scrabble.

My daughter, her husband and I were playing Scrabble several years ago. She had just finished spelling the word DEATH when the phone rang. It was my son calling to say that their grandfather and great grandmother had just been killed in a car crash.damned

If you play Scrabble with the ORIGINAL RULES, is that the word simply has to be in the Oxford English Dictionary, NOT that stupid Scrabble dictionary that they brought in in the 1970's, there are some super-great word that you can use.

<y favourite words...

QU ...As an opening, it is truly awesome. Likelihood is that no-one can follow you. It is also a great way to get rid of a Q at the end of the game. Incidentally, QU is a Sixteenth Century Elizabethan coin worth half a Groat.

QINTER ...Not spelt with a U. It is also a coin, actually from ALbania but is in the Oxford English Dictionary.

QADI ...Again, not spelt with a u. (There are 17 valid scrabble words in English wioth no u after the q) Incidentally, a Qadi is one of those Iranian judges who has thieves hands cut off as punishment under Islamic law.

JOEY ...Is a baby Kangaroo.

VERT, JAMBE, PURPURE, ARGENT - Amongst others. Heraldry of the Middle Ages injected a vast array of seemingly pure French words straight into the English language. Incidentally, when pronounced, these once French words are pronounced as if in clumsy English, so, for instance the T is pronounced in VERT etc..

HAJ - Allows one to attach to a blocked J. The haj, of course, being a muslim pilgrimage.

I was actually playing words with friends which is a little easier than scrabble, you don't lose your turn for a mis-spelled word.

I like the words TAO & AEON

Re: Just got 33 pts for MASON playing scrabble !
CWM is another fabulous word.

CWM, in the dictionary, is great as it has no A, E, I, O or U nor even Y as a stand it.

In actuality, the W acts as the vowel.

CWM (pronounced "Koom" is a Welsh word, adopted into the English language. It is an aggravated frost hollow on the side of a mountain that begins to slowly exude enough snow and ice that it becomes the birthplace of a new glacier.

Geomorphology is a science that has also provided a whole array of weird useful words like...

GEODE - the rock formation inwhich quartz occurs

NUNATAK - The top of a mountain, rising above a glacier

KROTOVINA - A filled in rabbit hole.

ISOSTATIC - A style of tectonic uplift.

...And, apart from this, weather alos provides...

RIME - A type of frost.
