Have you ever experienced a Grateful Dead show? | |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 5724732 02/12/2012 01:37 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes I saw them once but honestly I was too stoned to even remember it. I think I got so high off the joint we smoked that I had an acid flashback. Quoting: Vision Thing My former roommate is a total deadhead. He followed them on the road and sold tie dyes in the parking lot for years. It was cool living with him then because he was away so much. Your post reminded me of this pic! I Love rainbows! Thanks VT! :Terripan2002: :) Amazing things have a tendency of happening at outdoor concerts and music festivals. During a Radiohead show in 2006 while the opening band was playing, the skies were cloudy and it was raining, not horribly, but miserably. Then the opening band ended and everyone was still grumpy. Then low and behold, the rain stopped, the skies cleared around the outdoor ampitheater, and a vivid rainbow appeared in the distance behind the stage, similar to your picture. EVERYONE in the crowd started to cheer slowly, like an ongoing cheer and then the lights went out. The album Radiohead was touring for was called "In Rainbows" as well :) Great times. |

Quoting: MrOysterhead but i saw The Dead with all surviving member plus Haynes , Herring and Osborne Haynes and company rocked to be sure! My ex-gf's kids have only seen the Dead with me, but I feel I've done my job. ;-`) it was a good show. i had no idea back then but Jimmy Herring was really holding back to stay true to the GD sound. watching him with Widespread Panic now I know him as a face melting shedder. There are two kinds of people who come to GLP: Those who want to know and those who want to know who wants to know. |

I saw Bobby and the Midnights, probably around 1977-78, at the St. Paul Civic Center. Don't remember much about the show. My brain was frozen from riding to the show on a motorcycle in late November. I saw Further this New Year's Eve at the Civic Center in S.F., with my hardcore Deadhead friends. We took some "friendly" which certainly enhanced the show. Still the musicianship, sound, and light show were all excellent. When they sang Uncle John's Band it was a real Kumbaya moment. |

One of my favorite shows was Soldier Field in Chicago. Sting opened for them and it was pouring down rain. When the Dead came out the sky cleared and the sun came out during the first song. They all just stood on stage and did their own thing. I can't recall them doing one song that was tight and together. Maybe this is what Dead fans expected. The crowd got all excited when they did Dark Star. To me it was just a lot of jamming noise. I thought it sucked big time. Shocking really. But everyone else there was having a great time. I never got it. No good deed goes unpunished. |

They have illuminati symbols all over their artwork ! They suck ! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1317305 They definitely don't suck...however, bobby & Mickey are Bohemian grove attendees, as well as performers. They had to wait till Jerry passed before they went full illuminati... |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1513651 02/12/2012 11:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There was no other band quite like The Dead. (Phish is/was a good fill-in though) I saw them or I should say, I attended Watkins Glen circa 1973 and my tongue was out the entire weekend. Whatever anyone wanted to drop on it, I ingested. Life's general pulse was SO much different back then. Trust was a given, not something earned (hey, we actually rode our bicycles without a helmet. We were such rebels) The musical energy The Dead exhibited was magical. It wasn't so much the words but the frequency and resonance of the sound. One of my favorite songs is China Doll and I haven't a phuckin' clue what that song is about. Jerry's death left me as numb as when I heard about John Lennon and Princess Diane's deaths. Too young to leave us but their gig was up in this life-time. |

Direct drive. ;-`) Hey your former roommate is in that pic, isn't he? Indeed I highly advise anyone who has not heard a vinyl in a long time to immediately put it on their "to do list:. A quality vinyl is far superior in sound quality to any cd I've heard recently, even the digitally remastered stuff. I was really amazed when I brushed off my turn table a while back to spin some of my vinyls. I had not heard anything but digital in about a decade and I had simply forgotten how great it sounds.
