FM: Iran ready to allow states, private companies acquire stakes in Iran's N-fields

Tehran, Feb 27, IRNA - Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said in Tehran Tuesday that Iran, in efforts to build the international community's confidence in its nuclear program, was was even ready to give governments of other states or their private companies ownership of its nuclear fields.

Mottaki's remarks were part of his address to the first day-long international conference on Latin America which opened here Tuesday.

Pointing to Monday's meeting of the 5+1 Group (Britain, France, US, China, Russia plus Germany) in London, he stressed that "Iran's peaceful nuclear activities are very transparent."

"Iran has presented proposals to remove concerns (of the international community). Such offers have never been raised by any other nuclear fuel producer in the world," he said.

Ira Rennert is said to have taken RG Steel into administration rather than pay the $650million he was liable for to treat a contaminated facility in Maryland.

Fukui Shinbun reports that KEPCO, Ooi Plant operator, cannot find photographs of the crushed zone that runs through the plant compound, between Reactor 2 and Reactor 3 buildings. ( FAULT runs THROUGH the reactors buildings !!!! )


It has been pointed out by researchers that the crushed zone at the Ooi Nuclear Power Plant may cause the slippage of the ground surface when the active faults move. ( !!!!! )

The plant is currently being prepared for the restart in Ooi-cho in Fukui Prefecture. ( !!!! )

The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency disclosed on June 25 that the photographs of the crushed zone that the agency had asked KEPCO to submit weren't submitted.

Students hijack US drone in mid-air for $1,000 wager


.... On a dare, Texas college researchers hacked into and hijacked a drone of the US Homeland Security before the eyes of the officials operating it.

Using a technique called 'spoofing' where a signal from hackers imitates the one sent to the drone's on-board GPS, the Researchers managed to take control of a small but powerful drone in mid-air.

China blocks Bloomberg website after report on wealth of next president’s extended family

AP BEIJING — China blocked access to Bloomberg’s website on the mainland after the business and financial news agency published a report Friday detailing the multimillion-dollar assets of relatives of the man set to become the country’s next president.

The report says that the extended family of Vice President Xi Jinping holds interests that include investments in companies with total assets of $376 million, an 18 percent indirect stake in a rare-earths company with $1.73 billion in assets and a $20 million holding in a tech company.

The report cites public documents Bloomberg reporters compiled.

'Persian Gulf' Ballistic Missiles Prove Full Precision Capability in Drills

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's supersonic anti-ship ballistic missiles, 'Khalij-e-Fars (Persian Gulf)', displayed their 100 percent precision capability after hitting and destroying the specified targets in the last phase of the Payambar-e Azam 7 (The Great Prophet 7) drills on Wednesday.

"The Persian Gulf missile precisely hit and destroyed the target which was several times smaller than the marine targets which can pose a threat," Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh said at the end of the last phase of the wargames on Wednesday.

He said that the Payambar-e Azam 7 (The Great Prophet 7) massive missile wargames were wrapped up with the firing of the Persian Gulf missile as the last missile drill in the three-day-long exercises.

In early 2011, Iran started the mass-production of the Persian Gulf anti-ship missile which is designed to destroy targets and hostile forces at sea.

The supersonic projectile, which carries a 650-kilogram warhead, is immune to interception and features high-precision systems.

In April, commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh noted the production of the Persian Gulf ballistic missiles, and said, "The research and testing phase of the Persian Gulf missile ended last year, and it is now being mass produced by the Defense Ministry." .... more detailes about the Iranian armament on site ...

Romania’s parliament voted Friday to impeach President Traian Basescu in a spiralling political crisis that has raised warnings in the West that the country’s democracy is under threat.

Gizmodo reports a scanner that could read people at the molecular level has been invented.

This laser-based scanner – which can be used 164-feet away — could read everything from a person’s adrenaline levels, to traces of gun powder on a person’s clothes, to illegal substances — and it can all be done without a physical search. It also could be used on multiple people at a time, eliminating random searches at airports.

The laser-based scanner is expected to be used in airports as soon as 2013, Gizmodo reports.

The scanner is called the Picosecond Programmable Laser.

Olympics organizers to probe Adidas ‘exploitation’ claims

London Olympics organisers said on Saturday that they would investigate claims that workers in a Cambodian Adidas factory were being paid just $61 a month to produce official merchandise for the Games.

The investigation came after Britain’s Daily Telegraph newspaper reported that workers at the sportswear brand’s factory outside Phnom Penh were making “fanwear” six days a week for a basic salary of $61 (50 euros) per month.

Machinists at the Shen Zou factory told the broadsheet that they received an additional $5 allowance for healthcare and could increase their wages to $120 a month by increasing their hours from eight to 10 per day.

Campaigners say this salary would be far below the living wage for a Cambodian worker with a family and, if found to be true, would put Adidas in breach of an agreement with London organisers to pay staff a living wage. “ .... more ....

60% of Saudi citizens live below poverty line: Saudi daily

In an article published by the Okaz daily, Saudi journalist, Khaled al-Harbi wrote that while Saudi Arabia earns 1,500 billion riyals (around 400 billion dollars) a year, the average salary of an ordinary Saudi citizen should not be 1,500 riyals (around 400 dollars).


According to official figures released by Consultative Assembly of Saudi Arabia (Shura), about 22 percent of Saudi citizens - at least 3 million citizens - live below the poverty line.

Activists in Saudi Arabia have repeatedly criticized Riyadh for spending vast sums on buying arms from the West and not helping the millions living in poverty.

In 2010, Riyadh purchased over 60 billion dollars worth of weapons from the United States, which Washington lauded as the largest arms deal in history ... more ....

Queen private estate passes £400m mark


The Duchy of Lancaster, which funds the Queen’s privy purse private income, is now worth £405.3 million, up 5.8 percent or £22.1 million, its annual accounts showed.

The money is separate from the £32.3 million in government money received by the Queen to cover her official duties and travel costs of the royal family.

The duchy, established by Henry IV in 1399, owns the Savoy Estate - land and buildings between the Embankment and the Strand, not including The Savoy hotel - and substantial holdings in Lancashire and Yorkshire.

Australian Government Moves to Expand Surveillance Powers


Australia is the latest democratic nation to introduce new national security measures that would vastly expand governmental surveillance powers, following an alarming legislative pattern that’s also unfolded in the United Kingdom and Canada in recent months.

Just as EFF sounded the alarm about the UK’s attempt to move forward with a mass surveillance bill and kept the pressure on before Canada’s online surveillance bill was temporarily shelved in the face of an outcry from privacy advocates, we’re ready to join Australians in pushing back against this latest bid for greater online spying powers Down Under.

Last week, Australian Attorney General Nicola Roxon submitted to Parliament a package of proposals intended to advance a National Security Inquiry in an effort to expand governmental surveillance powers.

In a 60-page discussion paper, Roxon calls for making it easier for law enforcement and intelligence agencies to spy on Twitter and Facebook users, which would likely be achieved by compelling companies to create backdoors to enable surveillance.

Top Iranian Students in Nanotechnology Introduced in 3rd Nano Olympiad

TEHRAN (FNA)- Top Iranian students in nanotechnology were introduced in the 3rd Iranian Nanotechnology Olympiad held on July 18, 2012.


The closing ceremony of the 3rd Iranian Nanotechnology Olympiad was held in the presence of the Secretary of Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council, INIC Secretariat Manager, Head of Promotion Workgroup of INIC, and a number of Education and Training managers and deputies from various provinces.
Top promotional institutes and the best provinces in the organization of Nanotechnology Olympiads were also announced in the ceremony.

In this Olympiad, the students were evaluated according to the four parameters 'grade in the first stage examination of the Olympiad', 'laboratory work', 'presentation of simulation project in nanotechnology', and 'authorization of scientific articles'. Finally, the students who had acquired the highest grade were selected as the top students in the Olympiads.

During the ceremony, five provinces and five promotional institutes were also introduced as the top provinces and promotional firms in the organization of the Olympiad. 105 promotional institutes participated in the organization of the first stage of the Olympiad from 31 provinces of the country.

The Third Iranian Nanotechnology Olympiad was held in the two 'theoretical' and 'practical' stages.

Among 16,000 students who took part in the Third Nanotechnology Olympiad, 39 were qualified to participate in the second stage. Those 39 students who took part in the second stage were given 3 obtained gold medals, 3 silver medals, 18 bronze medals, and 15 honorary diplomas.

U.S. Admits Surveillance Violated Constitution At Least Once

The head of the U.S. government’s vast spying apparatus has conceded that recent surveillance efforts on at least one occasion violated the Constitutional prohibitions on unlawful search and seizure.

The admission comes in a letter from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence declassifying statements that a top U.S. Senator wished to make public in order to call attention to the government’s 2008 expansion of its key surveillance law.

“On at least one occasion,” the intelligence shop has approved Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) to say, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court found that “minimization procedures” used by the government while it was collecting intelligence were “unreasonable under the Fourth Amendment.”
Minimization refers to how long the government may retain the surveillance data it collects.

The Fourth Amendment to the Constitution is supposed to guarantee our rights against unreasonable searches.

Wyden does not specify how extensive this “unreasonable” surveillance was; when it occurred; or how many Americans were affected by it ... more ...

Anxiety Disorders in Poor Moms Likely to Result from Poverty, Not Mental Illness

TEHRAN (FNA)- Poor mothers are more likely to be classified as having the mental illness known as generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) because they live in poverty -- not because they are suffering from a psychiatric disorder, according to a new research.


Judith C. Baer, an associate professor in the School of Social Work, and her team, in the study, "Is it Generalized Anxiety Disorder or Poverty? An Examination of Poor Mothers and Their Children," published online in Child and Adolescent Social Work, argue that although high levels of stress over long periods can lead to psychological problems, there is no evidence that generalized anxiety disorder in poor mothers is because of an "internal malfunction."

The findings confirm earlier studies that the poorest mothers have the greater odds of being classified as having generalized anxiety disorder. But Baer and her team wrote, "...there is no evidence for a malfunction of some internal mechanism. Rather, "there is a physical need in the real world that is unmet and produces anxiety."

"The distinction is important because there are different ways to treat the problem," Baer said. "While supportive therapy and parent skills-training are often helpful, sometimes the most appropriate intervention is financial aid and concrete services."

Rutgers researchers argue that changing and broadening definitions for GAD have caused, in some cases, mental health experts to categorize the reactions of these mothers to the extreme conditions they face daily as symptoms of the anxiety disorder.

Baer's team has been exploring relationships between poor mothers and their children and whether links between poverty and maternal anxiety might play a part in their offspring developing anxiety of their own ... more ...

Harmful UV Radiation for Humans from Energy Efficient, Environmentally Friendly CFL Bulbs



Researchers from Stony Brook University and New York State Stem Cell Science found the compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs emitting harmful UV lights that can cause skin damages.

The research was funded by the National Science Foundation, and the result is similar to the 2008 European study.

These CFL bulbs, said to be energy-efficient and environmentally friendly according to the proponents, have been federally mandated in the US to completely replace incandescent light bulbs.

Reports indicate the US military has poured huge sums of money into surveillance drone miniaturization and is developing micro aircraft which now come in a swarm of bug-sized flying spies.


According to various internet sources, a team of researchers at the Johns Hopkins University in conjunction with the US Air Force Office of Scientific Research at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Arlington, Virginia, is helping develop what they are calling a micro aerial vehicle (MAV) that will undertake various espionage tasks.


The robotic insect can effortlessly infiltrate urban areas, where dense concentrations of buildings and people, along with unpredictable winds and other obstacles make it impractical.

President Ahmadinejad Blasts Current World Order

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lashed out at the corrupt order dominating the world, and stated that a few minorities are trying to impose their will on the world majority.



Speaking at a meeting with participants in the Tehran Conference on Syria on Thursday evening, President Ahmadinejad stated that the existing conditions of the world "are not acceptable by any means".

He mentioned the fact that a few minorities who possess the power and wealth in the world are ruling the world and they want to determine the fate of all nations and world affairs, as well as impose their will on other nations.

"Today the power, wealth and media in the world is owned and controlled by these minorities and they introduce themselves as benchmark for all values while considering freedom, justice and democracy as what they introduce to others.
Any country or nation who defies them and wants to live independently is pressured by them," President Ahmadinejad underlined.

President Ahmadinejad has on many occasion underlined the necessity and need for the establishment of a new world order, saying that the current unjust order has failed to resolve global problems and, thus, reached its end.

He added that corrupt rulers are trying to maintain their power through intimidation, pressure, misinformation and propaganda campaign .

Utah road sign flashes ‘God Hates Gays’ near Brigham Young Univ.

An electronic road sign near the Mormon church’s Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah shocked motorist on Wednesday with the message “God Hates Gays.”

A driver posted a video of the sign on YouTube on Thursday.

Provo Public Information Officer Helen Anderson told Raw Story that the signed belonged to a contractor for the Utah Department of Tranportation, not the city.


“We just happen to be the city that this sign was in, unfortunately,” Anderson said.

“I personally find it very offensive,” Anderson said in a comment posted to YouTube. “Despite every effort to prevent it, sometimes signs like this get hacked. The city has contacted the team working on this construction project and they are looking into it.”

A spokesperson for the Department of Transportation did not return calls by the time of publication ... more , see photo on site ...

Supervision of power will be pivotal to China’s battle against corruption, with the forces of corruption and those fighting it currently at a "stand-off", a senior anti-corruption official has said.

Li Xueqin, head of the research division under the Communist Party of China’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, made the remarks in a recent interview in which he discussed the anti-corruption efforts made in the 20 years since the Party declared a war on corruption in 1993.

Li said that "stand-off" status is the best description of the overall situation.

Li said China faces grim challenges in fighting corruption. He said for every achievement, problems still exist, and while it is an impossible task to eliminate corruption in the short term, there is increasing pressure from the public to stamp out the practice.

Li said the focus of the 1993 mission has changed over the years from fighting corruption to preventing it.

In the first 10 years of the mission, the strategy was to curb the rising trend of corruption, and the main tasks were upholding leaders’ integrity and investigating cases.

In the past 10 years, however, the main focus has shifted to prevention, and to eradicating the roots of the crime, according to Li.

Li said legal frameworks and international cooperation has improved in the past five years. More than 50 laws and regulations have been formulated to help fight corruption during that time .... more ....
