You are the kind of person that gives the USA a bad name. You are uneducated, more than likely untraveled, asshat.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5089069

That is a big problem I think with many US citizens, they are inexperienced with the world outside of it's borders. Take for example the UK, a third of it's population leave the UK every year, to go to another country. I have lost count of the number of countries I have visited and lived in in my life, as a rough guess I would put it at (thinking)....40, and lived in 5 other countries. That gives you a huge perspective and empathy with other peoples and nations.

To be frank I have never been to the States, never wanted to in the past, and certainly do not want to go there now, I go East, I feel safer in Moscow than I know I would in, Alabama for example. I lived in India for a whole year, travelling the country extensively, and never felt unsafe anywhere I went. I have travelled the around the middle east, north Africa, the whole of Eurasia practically, but this is not uncommon for Europeans, but most uncommon for Americans.

Americans have a PR problem, they are perceived wrongly I know as all being Budweiser swigging, Big Mac eaters, all with a mentality of GW Bush jnr with a 'shock and awe' military mindset. To some extent this is true for many Americans, especially those of low academic ability, of which I know there are many.

This needs to change if America really wants to participate meaningfully with our global family of humankind. I thank you for reading this, please do not take it personally, as stated not all Americans are like this, I know many myself personally, many are friends, they too have made statements such as yours above. Best wishes to you there.

We were one the light of the world. The place that was grounded in scientific study and production. That was pre-world wars and a little bit after WWII before presidents such as Truman and Nixon who appeased the bankers came into power. USA has a history of putting the banking elite, city of London and the monarch in their place.

There's a reaason why the USA and its 'freedom loving' population is on the other side of the world where all the action is and where the real issues of humanity are decided on the ground.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10659448

By nameless shadow puppeteers who shamelessly dumb down, then dupe the population into total submission.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3271634

Americans are not a revolutionary people. Even its 'war for independence' was a facade - bringing about the very conditions the American myths say the 'founding fathers' were fighting against. The only few hiccups have been the labor revolts of the 1800's to the early 1900's - and the civil rights movement - both of which were quickly subverted and the people put back to isolative sleep.

Americans are not even a people to begin with and everything that exists in American 'culture formation' is designed to prevent a people from forming.

The best model of communism wasn't the USSR - it fell apart after 80 years because the engineers couldn't keep all those peoples with strong identities and national traditions under the whip. Not so, with the USA. A few hundred million atomized individuals without history, culture, lineage, tradition, or continuuity make the best slaves.

Security forces cannot handle much more than 2 to 5% of a population revolting at the same time. They will run for their lives if waves of a couple million people start revolting all at once. This is what's coming.

Show me where I said that or implied that, fruitcake. I said that security forces cannot handle more than 5% of a population revolting at the same time. You obviously have a difficult time with comprehension. Calling people 'tards' or implying they smoke 'crack' to cover your ignorance of understanding is a poor character trait.

more than 5% of the population isn't 'the entire country of Greece'. If even 10% of the population rises up, its all over. Get it? Comprende?

Americans are the most doped up, idiotic people I ever witnessed. At least the Greeks have balls to actually get up and do something rather then just signing electronic petitions, standing on the street with signs and get bitched around with riot protection cops who use pepper spray. Sir, no offense, but you sound like someone who has long harbored a bigoted view of my country, without ever having set foot in it

I might say that given the horror stories I read of yob attacks, race wars and socker hooligans and binge drinking I have no desire to visit the UK

If you're the sort of person who would feel more at home in Moscow to begin with, and who feels 100% comfortable making vast generalizations about a large population of people you have never met, based on quite biased media reports that we here have no control over, then I don't think anything is going to change your mind.

The fact that a large majority of Americans turned around after George Bush and overwhelmingly voted for a black president with a muslim last night, had no effect on you or others who were determined to dislike us anyway

Again, no offense, but it seems your mind is quite closed on the subject, so its doubtful much would change your opinions for the better and just about anything would only reinforce the negative stereotypes you have already harbored for decades.

Just be honest about it.

I might say that given the horror stories I read of yob attacks, race wars and socker hooligans and binge drinking I have no desire to visit the UK

After reading of daily neo-nazi attacks on immigrants in Russian cities, I as a visible minority certainly have zero desire to visit Moscow, so you see, we can have very different viewpoints.

If you're the sort of person who would feel more at home in Moscow to begin with, and who feels 100% comfortable making vast generalizations about a large population of people you have never met and will never meet in person, based on quite biased media sources that we here have no control over, then I don't think anything is going to change your mind.

The fact that a large majority of Americans turned around after George Bush and overwhelmingly voted for a black president with a muslim last name, has had no effect on you or others who were determined to dislike us anyway

I am blessed to have traveled extensively through the world, and I realize on returning to the United States that the majority of Americans I meet are far more welcoming and genuinely friendly than most of the so-called "developed" world I have lived or spent time in.

Yet, as you say, we get a bad rap.

Frankly, I am beginning to understand why there were those of my father's generation who finally developed a "fuck the rest of the world" attitude, because even in the 1950s 60s and 70s, the Europeans and many South Americans were eager to gleefully bash anything American, no matter what we did.

If we sent aid, we got no thanks, if we didn't intervene, then we were told we weren't doing enough, but when we did help (as recently as Haiti after the earthquake) then there were those who suggested we were doing it out of selfish motivations

Can't win, why try is what some finally decided.

I am not one of those, because we all have a personal responsibility to rise above petty national interests and become global citizens, but I have to say when I read posts like yours I just want to throw in the towel sometimes

Again, no offense, but it seems your mind is quite closed on the subject, so its doubtful much would change your opinions for the better and just about anything would only reinforce the negative stereotypes you have already harbored for decades.

Back to subject, don't you think Greeks are being pushed out of the Euro ? Cutting the minimum wage to less then 500 euros, I can't imagine people letting that pass. Right? Plus their debt will keep rising..
