Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2758412 You are the kind of person that gives the USA a bad name. You are uneducated, more than likely untraveled, asshat. That is a big problem I think with many US citizens, they are inexperienced with the world outside of it's borders. Take for example the UK, a third of it's population leave the UK every year, to go to another country. I have lost count of the number of countries I have visited and lived in in my life, as a rough guess I would put it at (thinking)....40, and lived in 5 other countries. That gives you a huge perspective and empathy with other peoples and nations. To be frank I have never been to the States, never wanted to in the past, and certainly do not want to go there now, I go East, I feel safer in Moscow than I know I would in, Alabama for example. I lived in India for a whole year, travelling the country extensively, and never felt unsafe anywhere I went. I have travelled the around the middle east, north Africa, the whole of Eurasia practically, but this is not uncommon for Europeans, but most uncommon for Americans. Americans have a PR problem, they are perceived wrongly I know as all being Budweiser swigging, Big Mac eaters, all with a mentality of GW Bush jnr with a 'shock and awe' military mindset. To some extent this is true for many Americans, especially those of low academic ability, of which I know there are many. This needs to change if America really wants to participate meaningfully with our global family of humankind. I thank you for reading this, please do not take it personally, as stated not all Americans are like this, I know many myself personally, many are friends, they too have made statements such as yours above. Best wishes to you there. I think the U.S should just drop a nuke on em and be done with it..WE HATE YOU!!!!!!! Best wishes to you there. Sir, no offense, but you sound like someone who has long harbored a bigoted view of my country, without ever having set foot in it I might say that given the horror stories I read of yob attacks, race wars and socker hooligans and binge drinking I have no desire to visit the UK After reading of daily neo-nazi attacks on immigrants in Russian cities, I as a visible minority certainly have zero desire to visit Moscow, so you see, we can have very different viewpoints. If you're the sort of person who would feel more at home in Moscow to begin with, and who feels 100% comfortable making vast generalizations about a large population of people you have never met and will never meet in person, based on quite biased media sources that we here have no control over, then I don't think anything is going to change your mind. The fact that a large majority of Americans turned around after George Bush and overwhelmingly voted for a black president with a muslim last name, has had no effect on you or others who were determined to dislike us anyway I am blessed to have traveled extensively through the world, and I realize on returning to the United States that the majority of Americans I meet are far more welcoming and genuinely friendly than most of the so-called "developed" world I have lived or spent time in. Yet, as you say, we get a bad rap. Frankly, I am beginning to understand why there were those of my father's generation who finally developed a "fuck the rest of the world" attitude, because even in the 1950s 60s and 70s, the Europeans and many South Americans were eager to gleefully bash anything American, no matter what we did. If we sent aid, we got no thanks, if we didn't intervene, then we were told we weren't doing enough, but when we did help (as recently as Haiti after the earthquake) then there were those who suggested we were doing it out of selfish motivations Can't win, why try is what some finally decided. I am not one of those, because we all have a personal responsibility to rise above petty national interests and become global citizens, but I have to say when I read posts like yours I just want to throw in the towel sometimes Again, no offense, but it seems your mind is quite closed on the subject, so its doubtful much would change your opinions for the better and just about anything would only reinforce the negative stereotypes you have already harbored for decades. Just be honest about it. Peace |

That is important to know as well, and we have to identify those who won't back down despite pressure and bullying. This vote does not change anything where it counts: inside . People's eyes are awakening to the reality of their predicament, and that is a movement impossible to suppress. Enlightenment and awareness can happen in a heartbeat, and it spreads like lightning from person to person. This is why the powers are so nervous, why they are reacting so harshly. The truth will evolve over the coming weeks, and I believe there will be a significant change in Greek leadership before May My father's family were French and half jewish. His step father and step-family vanished outside of Paris within 6 months after the Nazis entered France. My father was lucky to be in NY at the time, and he never forgot the difference a small stroke of luck made in his life. Our lives revolve by chance, which is why we cannot judge another's position, unless we have been in his or her shoes. There but for the fates go you or I, if it were not for circumstances of birth over which we have no control. To people like my father and those living in the late 1930s, early 1940s, as they watched the Nazis roll through Poland, conquer and imprison one country after another, crushing any rebellion with extreme cruelty, as they watched harsh dictatorships spring up in Italy, Spain and Japan, things must have seemed hopeless, far worse than they are now Nevertheless, they managed to survive that era and succeed, even if today it looks as we're rapidly headed back to a fascist world of control and repression We've got to be made of stronger stuff, and not be so easily defeated. This is not a criticism, as it would be a blind fool not to feel some fear at the forces aligning themselves against humanity right now However, we have got to believe there is more at work here than just headlines we're allowed to see. We know that there are moves at work to eliminate choice on the internet, to suppress and censor news sources outside of the mainstream. Its time to remember what people of my dad's generation knew: how to perservere even in the absence of good news. We've been very fortunate to have had this taste of community on the internet, and as long as it's permitted to exist we should make the most of it However, should it vanish, we need to cultivate the inner resources, connect with the local communities of like mind in order to do what it takes to win the battle for the human spirit. It comes down to us, right here, right now, and from what I can see time is growing short. I remember asking my father if it was depressing to be 20 years old just as the world seemed it was falling apart... He said no, that he and many of his friends felt like they had a tremendous mission to clean up the mess left by the previous generation. They had an optimism which I envy I need to do this as well, and find ways to cultivate sources of optimism and hope for those darker times no doubt ahead of us Be well friend, and find something that makes you happy as corny as it may be, something which keeps you on track, whether it be a movie, a book or a song. These were two my dad would sing. Our generation in this struggle need to find or create our own. Simple things like music can make such a difference Last Edited by oldboldpilot on 02/12/2012 10:00 PM "Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact.
