EU chief hits out on ACTA
"The president of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, has lambasted the controversial Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), saying it is unbalanced and needs to be reworked. ACTA proposes a radical tightening-up of copyright legislation intended to fight increasingly globalized and Internet-driven forms of piracy. All but five EU countries have signed up to the treaty, but none have ratified it as yet, and there have been demonstrations against the legislation throughout Europe. Schulz said ACTA did too much to protect the interests of commercial companies at the expense of the rights of Internet users."
