At the end of the day it is irrelivant what someone thinks about you. You are on a sole journey here on earth. The knowledge you gain while here is based on what you choose to learn or not to learn.

Even if you do believe someone who lies and then find out that it was a lie, you gain because they have helped you learn something you didn't know before-you gain new knowledge.
You create your own reality through the choices that you make, so if you live your liife with your own truth which is based on your own lerant knowledge then you are creating something positive.

If you live your life with deciet, decieing others and yourself, you will create a life built upon sand which will one day come crashing down around you because it is not built upon anything solid.
People have choosen to create a society based on lies and deciet which you can now see if you look at the world around you, which is now falling apart because of this.
You can choose to carry on this deciet and live your life this way or you can choose to life your life based on your own truth, being true to yourself in everything you say, think or do and take responsibilty for your own actions. This is harder than just being a sheep because you are choosing to live outside of what is considered normal and people don't like it, but so what!

It is also easier to blame someone else if you are decieved, that to
take responsibility for your own actions, in that you are the own that choose to beileve the deciet. If you did, so what, learn from it take responsibilty, use the knowledge gained to help others not to be decieved.

Like you said it is a disease, will you feed the disease or lead by example. All is choice and consequences.
