What if you stockpile stuff and are hit by a natural disaster? If you have to leave your home....how much can you take with you. Remember.....gas may not be available....so what can you carry on foot....a bike....a donkey? I don't see a reason to stockpile more than you can carry. hf
 Quoting: imjustsayin

I agree with you 99%! It's good to have a stock but it's better to know indigenous plants, local water sources and purification methods, and know how to trap small game. If you master those, then you really have no worries.
But having stored items for a few weeks supply is a good thing to have if nothing more than a morale builder.
 Quoting: John Donson 7813130

Storing food and supplies is always a smart thing to do for the short term. In an apocalyptic situation that would 6-8 months worth. More important is knowledge to survive from the land with plants and animals it provides, and the plants and animals that you care for, harvest, and process and put into your food store for the winter when plants aren't growing.

I wanted to also say that I could supply all my families meat needs by wild animals on my farm, and not endanger the ongoing supply. But if we had to supply meat needs for dozens of people the supply would be gone quickly. That is why a person has to know how to grow his own plants and animals for food.

I love all this gonna survive a world holocaust jive.Survive my butt.I see a lot of people talking about survival like its joining the boy scouts. What does everyone think huh?First thing if your in the USA or Russia your gauranteed dead..If a war, pandemic,or any real country killer of a threat arose it will end in the full release of all nuculear weapons would happen with no doubt.Your bunker would quickly become your tomb.Radiation would contaminate everything.Top soil Dead 3 feet deep, ground water would kill anything below that due to radiation and toxins released from mass oxidation of all metals not cointing what these containers hold.1 quart of motor oil can contaminate a thousand gallons of drmkig water think about all the reigonal oil and chemical depots around the country..All the burning homes and buildings black rain, full of acid would happen just like in hiroshima during ww2.Go to the forest hah. What forest?I live in Tennese and there few places unless in a national park you can walk more than 3 to 4 miles without crossing a road or 4 wheeler trail. Now imagine milions of people in the woods. They would wipe out what scant forest resorurces in a matter of days.Next would be rouge military factions.Small groups of former military personell.Highly trained heavily armed.Real experts at makingg you dead and taking what you have so they can stop whatching there children slowly starve to death just for another day just for another cusp of bread. Is that survival? Is that somekind reward ?Its just existing?I don't want a world where the only way to feed a starving child is to rip it from the the mouth of another starving child!

I saw some of it last night and i cant imagine this government not hunting them down real quick-like and providing transportation to a nearby FEMA CAMP.

Why would they make it known they have all this stuff? Hell, i'd keep quiet about it...No amount of money would place me in front of the cameras...if the FBI or CIA runs an investigation...they are screwed.

Besides, that is no guarantee they will survive...

They can be all be defeated by:

Running out of prescription meds, you can only get about a 90 day supply legally..

Waste removal, causing toxins

Air purification, could be smoked out and burned out

RPG would take most of them out

Most important thing not covered (nat/geo will not ask):
Will they fire on authority? or give up to them when asked?

And nudie mags. You got to have some good nudie mags since porn will go retro in an EMP situation. No internet porn, just magazines like the old days.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1166500

very important. also if you are a hot chick you will do fine.
 Quoting: Looking Around

Yes, true. And hotties will be desperate for tampons, so stock up on lots of those and barter them for some action from the hotties. Also rubbers and lube, very key in this scenario. Preppers will get the most sex, even if they are total dorks right now.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1166500

and the most stds. if she gives it up to you for tampons, shes giving it up for more than that

serves you right though

The signal that we are about to enter into hell will be given through stock market crash, that will be the time to buy the preppers goods, not sooner.
We are still at least 2 to 3 years away from this.

Re: One thing the "Doomsday Preppers" forget is
These are great questions that seem to get glazed over by these reality TV shows.
I haven't checked this show out yet, but my boyfriend is all about it right now. We both got real into that show "The Colony" during it's first season, second season was too stupid...I guess the producers were looking for cheap drama, I was in it for the strategy. I know what not to do after that show, and a warehouse would be a great home, we happen to have lots of those around here.
The one guy from Dual Survival (not weirdo Cody) has a great web channel where he demonstrates all kinds of shit that is extremely useful; from homemade traps to reusing spent shells. I highly recommend it as I believe that eventually, we're going to end up living in the woods sooner rather than later.
 Quoting: A Few Good Women

Cody and people like him will probably last longer.. they stop to think alternatives and chose best one.Too gon ho kills...

every time the missus goes shopping, she's picking up a few packs of painkillers. we've got quite a stock now. she's also picking up cheap noodles, a few at a time.

painkillers are gonna be like gold dust post shtf, along with cigarettes, but i can't afford to build a stock of them up at the moment.

Good point "imjustsayin"!!
I am speaking to all your darling "over-
40's-something..." BUY SEVERAL OF THOSE
INDUSTRIAL BACK-BRACES and WRIST/ARM
BRACES. They will help you carry alot more
and you won't sprain your back in the
middle of the 'BUG-OUT-DRILL!'

Also a good item for barter--who will have
thought of something so useful? The more you
can carry==if home or storage unit is hit/
compromised....the better your chances.
You may also be called upon to carry an
injured family member, or child....strength
is key here!
Cheers!

But a guy in the city with no preparations at all will survive?

Nobody could ever find my hide out. And if they even stumbled into the vicinity they wouldn't make it 10 yards before one of the traps got them.

Some preppers have thought of everything. And I do mean everything.
