Anonymous Astophysicist User ID: 1170452 United States 02/16/2012 01:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is horseshit you can't become a cop in the US without a degree or military experience in the US. Even with military experience it's still hard to become a cop w/o a degree. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3115472 Yes, a degree anyone can obtain. What they are taught is how to obey the chain of command, they know very little about the law itself, only "public policy'> The degrees they obtain are easy for anyone with an 80 iq to pass, and almost all PD's in the US have a cutoff point of 90 on iq testing. If you're smart, you are automatically disqualified from police work and the reason is obvious. An intelligent person will question authority and the legitimacy of public policy as opposed to law. The two are two separate things. A cop is taught to empty his clip into a suspect once the decision to shoot is made. An intelligent man would never continue firing after a chest or head shot. |

Quoting: DIGITAL I have a friend who went into bootcamp.. didn't go to college.. they tested him at bootcamp.. he scored REAL high on the IQ and Psych tests.. they kicked him out of bootcamp because "he tried marijuana when he was 14" this is false you are fearmongering. i scored high on the iq and psych tests and they are now fighting over me. i plan on joining the army rangers though. navy wanted me to go for nuke tech. there are plenty of jobs in the military that require high IQs. so, i say again, you are lying. I think he was referring to cop boot camp, the 'academy' When I joined the Navy, I tested 160+ IQ and scored a perfect on the armed services vocation aptitude battery (ASVAB) test, and they were kissing my ass trying to get me to sign up for OCS. I took so many tests it was unreal, they had me pegged as an officer on a boomer but I said 'no thank you'. I had signed a contract for a three year bid as an electronic technician just to get a damned job, this was back during the Reagan trickle down economics years and I couldn't find a good job. I went to military lawyer (jag officer) and had my contrAct voided when they changed my MOS and told them to take the Navy and shove it. |

Quoting: Kiljaeden the Banned It is common knowledge that forces do not select those with average to high intelligence so they are less inclined to question authority, or as the police tell you, they only select lower IQ individuals so that they will not get bored and leave the force and waste training resources. Regardless, no one is denying that lower IQ's are what the forces are generally filled with, but do those cops know they are cops BECAUSE they are not too bright? I attribute most of the cops-gone-bad type videos you see online to this fact, that they are truly stupid people who think they are smart. I assume it is the same for the military. Perhaps the "all volunteer" military. Not so with the draft in the 60's and 70's. They were drafting college graduates...smart guys. Today they join because they are uneducated or they don't have a job. |

Yes I understand they "protect" people, yes I understand we need police to govern the laws. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9919572 But something happened along the way and it's called EGO. Police now go by the motto "guilty until proven innocent" as they have proven to hand you a ticket and say "tell it to the judge" or they make up evidence. My biggest issue with cops is they need to meet a quota for issuing police tickets. This is retarded. If someone breaks the law and a ticket is issued then fine, but the fact they issue tickets on circumstances is absolute bullshit. I had a run-in with the law several years ago. An undercover van pulled me over on the grounds of "someone called the station and reported I was speeding" which is a complete lie. The officer said my car smelled like marijuana and that he'd have to search it. I told him I know my rights and I don't agree to a search. He then opened my door and pulled me out of the car, put me in handcuffs and put me in the back of their undercover van while they searched my car. They didn't find anything inside the car at which point I should have been freed and on my way. He then proceeded to open my trunk without my consent and without a search warrant. Sure enough yes he did find marijuana, under an ounce, in my trunk and I was arrested. After the multiple court dates and $30,000 in lawyer fees, I was found not guilty because: 1-there was no reason for the cop to pull me over initially. 2-car smelling like marijuana isn't enough grounds for them to search, it means at some point in time marijuana was in the car. 3-they illegally detained me in cuffs in their undercover van while they illegally searched my car. 4-they didn't have my permission or search warrant so the search of my trunk was illegal. Anything found during an illegal search is not admissible in court and because of that not guilty. Sure I'm happy I don't have a criminal record but the whole fiasco made me look at police differently. They knew the grounds for pulling me over were not justified. They knew they were illegally searching my car while I was being illegally detained. They even lied to the judge in court saying I handed them my keys to open the trunk. The lies and deception to cover their asses and the overall process has left me disgusted by their actions. I've hated the police ever since. Storys like these are why alot of people hate cops, me being one of them, in the famous words of Easy E FUCK DA POLICE Storys like those are fabricated and full of shit. Bet a million bucks the dude was high as a kite driving and reckless and proceeded to lie about every once of this BS story. It didnt happen the way you think sir. |
