Multiple Sclerosis & Natural Therapies to Treat It
Hello, all.

I have noticed that a great number of posters on this site are quite familiar with and do practice natural medicine. My post is to seek out help from you all who have knowledge of natural ways to treat MS.

My boyfriend has suffered with the disease for 7 years. I really want to help him find a better way of treating his MS as the crap the drug companies offer make him worse - not better.

From my research thus far, I've learned that MS is an auto-immune disease wherein the body rejects the myelin sheath surrounding nerve cells in the brain and spine. To date, very little seems to be known as to why this happens or how to cure it...let alone treat it without killing the patient!

I've noticed a few similarities between the pain and muscle spasms my boyfriend has with his MS and Diabetic Neuropathy and I'm hoping I'm going in the right direction with this.

Diabetic Neuropathy is also caused by the loss of the myelin sheath surrounding the nerve cells. My mother has suffered from Diabetes Myelitis since she was 19 years old. She is a Type 1 brittle (insulin sensitive) diabetic and started developing symptoms of Diabetic Neuropathy about 10 years ago. They tried to treat her with Gabapentin, but that stuff is nasty crap! She was so dizzy she could barely stand up! So instead, she and I did some research and discovered that taking 50mg of Alpha lipoic acid had been shown not only to aid in maintaining proper blood glucose levels, but also to relieve the symptoms of Diabetic Neuropathy. So far she is doing well. I'm hoping that someone here has had experience with Alpha lipoic acid and can recommend a dosage that would work for my fella. I'm thinking that since the average starting/working dose in all of the research Mom and I did was 50mg, that this is where I should start.

MS is a complex disease. I'm not only looking for ways to control his pain, but to stop his attacks. Waking up paralyzed or not being able to see or hear is really hard (understatement) on us both. Fatigue is what he has all of the time. He stays as busy as he can and avoids as much stress as possible, but there must be a way to help increase his tolerance to stress, relieve his pain, and either stop any further deterioration of the myelin sheath or repair/restore the damage that has been done. I've talked to a few other with MS that swear by Vitamin D-3, but I've not had the time to do the proper research on this claim.

So with this rather lengthy post, I'm asking my fellow GLP'ers with knowledge on natural remedies for MS to either let me know what they have been doing that worked, or to help me find something that will.

I eagerly away your responses :)

While I don't have MS, I find that I can no longer eat non organic foods without fear of having a severe allergic reaction. After eliminating most genetically modified foods from my diet, the arthritis that was caused from an injury has also subsided. I also now feel great and no longer experience the frequent intestinal bouts that I was plagued with for nearly a decade.
I'm only suggesting that GMO's could be but one of many cofactors at play in your boyfriends illness. It might just be that you will be able to improve his condition through a process of elimination rather than just merely seeking a homeopathic cure. Good luck...

Do some research on Multiple Chemical Sensitivity to learn about how toxic chemicals injure the body.
Then eliminate as many toxic and fragrant chemicals from your home as you can. Start small. Switch to fragrance free laundry detergent and stop using fabric softener sheets, bleach and anything with Febreeze in it or on it.
Find some fragrance free shampoo for him at a health food store.... I use Nature's Gate baby shampoo. You can even get that brand of deodorant for him.
The goal is to reduce the body burden of toxins, so you have to stop using them. Stop wearing perfume or him, cologne, really toxic stuff.
Natural gas and propane are really bad and will set MS off, notice symptoms worsening when gas appliances are used or when you visit places with them.
Of course, stay away from aspertame, nutrasweet, msg and nitrates in food. They really make MS symptoms and neuropathies worse. Carbonated drinks give me severe reflux instantly and can make my neuropathies so severe that the signal from the brain to my legs skips and I have to sit down immediately or feel as though I will fall. Very scary.
I have lived with this for 24 years now and know most of the triggers for mine and what to avoid.
I have not tried msm yet.... I may try it as I have heard it brings relief.

this sounds alot like ORMUS, also a very good thing to consider

5% or so of the nervous system is in the ormic state, supllementing these forms of elements can not only cure MS but also any other unnatural conditions that may exist

Most MS patients had some sort of weird attack by virus on their immune system and most have very little circulating vitamin d which led the T cells to go undirected and attack the nerve sheath.

Try 15-20,000 iu of d till you get level to 100 in the blood. Then go for diet with low Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratios.

Try some zyflamend.

Thank you to everyone for all of your responses and advice so far. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help and support.

@pigshark: This is what I've been told about Vitamin D. I did not know about the Omega 6 and Omega 3. Thank you for this and I will add these supplements to my research.

Thank you! Interesting statement and I will definitely be following up on this.

I've also discovered a feature of GLP I didn't know existed until I posted my first thread. At the bottom of all of the threads are links to similar threads.

I found a thread containing a video from a Medical Doctor who cured his MS through diet, so I've been watching that and doing research on this Dr. to see if his MS is still gone.

Here is a link to that thread and the videos embedded there for anyone also doing research on curing their MS naturally:

Excellent post and great advice.

I'm convinced that MS is NOT a natural disease but a man-made one that has evolved from the use of toxic chemicals and other environmental factors. The reported cases of MS in the US seem to be at almost epidemic levels. New cases of MS are reported by the droves and your post confirms what I've been thinking all along - we are being poisoned by the very food we eat which has been poisoned by chemicals.

What is MSM, btw? Also, what about your intake of sugar in your diet either raw or white table sugar? My BF absolutely refuses to give these up and will not switch to Slenda which is what my Type 1 Diabetic Mother uses with no problems at all.

I have ms slong with all the crap meds they give me i also have started to take the following suppliments which have helped:

cider apple vinegar - has so many uses but i have dry skin etc from side effects from the meds
vit b12 and iron suppliments - b12 helps the metabolism of b12 - as i have also got bad anemia
also if you are defficent in b12 you will most likely be deficent in b6 - this releases energy from the muscles and helps combat the fatigue - it does work its no miracle but it has helped me keep up

i wish you partner all the luck in the world...i know what it is like to wake up not able to move...or suffering from bad double incontinance...or inproper digestion of food....bad migraines
it took me 2 years for a proper diagnosis...there are others out there like me and worse...i just keep thinking to myself it could be worse...
even my daughter finds the funny side and she is 4 she has only ever known me with ms she just says on my off days mummy is feeling a bit spazzy today...
above all life IS worth living..how you live it is upto you how you cope is YOUR choice...above all keep smiling and find the lighter side of things...PEACE :)

Both are caused by vitamin D deficiency. MS can be controlled with vitamin D treatment but I don't know if vitamin D can do much for Diabetes type one but worth a try.

Google it. A lot will come up but I'd suggest 2000 IU for every 25lb of bodyweight.

i can't find it now but there were great reports on simply opening up the carotids that in many cases of MS there was a blockage that was relieved either by inversion therapy and the chelation or if really bad--the surgical route.

now i'm giving this page from youtube as there is a wealth of info posted as usual with related videOs on the right side.

Re: Multiple Sclerosis & Natural Therapies to Treat It
I'm probably too late with this, but--

Essiac tea does some incredible things, I'm not sure about MS specifically, but the immune system most definitely.

Look into oil pulling using different types of oil. Some mention relief for MS (safflower oil, I believe).

Lavender essential oil - 20-24 drops in a cup of olive oil for topical use only. Rub on closest nerve area (i.e. - pain in shoulder/apply on and near backbone) for pain relief. (Do some research on this first. Lavender has some tricky aspects.)

Although it is illegal to sell (people were ceasing to exist by taking it internally), comfrey is a well known cure for bones. You have to make your own these days and not too many know how.

I hope something here helps, although I can't attest to any of it doing anything beyond what I mentioned. Well wishes your way in any case.
