Anonymous Coward User ID: 1297633 Canada 02/16/2012 10:07 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The 70,000 daily visitors to popular music site RnBXclusive.com were met with a purposely terrifying message on Tuesday and part of Wednesday. The UK's Serious Organized Crime Agency (SOCA) took the site down, arrested its operator, and threw up a splash page that warned downloaders of "up to 10 years imprisonment." Thought statutory damages of up to $150,000 per infringement in the US were ludicrous? SOCA warns that downloaders from the site could face an "unlimited fine under UK law." Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10891120 [link to arstechnica.com] The US laws don't sound so bad compared to this.. At some point we will simply revolt. I have already stopped buying any music and films. I would probably downgrade my Internet connection to a lowest minimum one. Why do I need all that super speeds if I cannot download anything there or may be jailed or fined an unlimited fine by downloading something by mistake? I am using prepaid cell just for emergency, there is no need for me to be accessible by everybody 24 hours a day. And I changed my phone line to VOIP just as a backup. I would cut my cable TV too but our condo has a group contract so I cannot do anything here. Reading the books and talking in person seems to me much less dangerous and cheaper. Technology will kill itself because of greed. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7932354 Make's perfect sense. Are you talking about people building their own aircraft carriers to help out in the Strait of Hormuz? I have my own ROFLcopter, maybe I can help out too. All this has happened before, and will happen again. |

Revox 7.5" reel to reel, Quad amp and Studio Monitors. Never any problems then. Quoting: Judethz Ah Judethz a girl after my own heart. I still own a Revox pre amp, Macintosh tube amp and Klipsch handmade La Scala's. NOTHING digital can give the same sound and I've been offered a small fortune for the tube amp. But I own a pair of smaller Klipsch and a Crown digital amp for movies on my "flatscreen". Can't live totally in the past. There's quite a few artists that NEED to get paid for their work or they wouldn't have the funds to create for us all to enjoy. we'd be stuck with, like "the old days" of only hearing whatever the unimaginative record industry execs want us to buy. Dweezil Zappa is a great example. His Dad stood his ground against Warner Brothers and produced the work HE wanted to produce without the imagination slaughtering pop music industry execs. It was a fight, but he believed in his creativity as a marketable commodity and stuck to his guns and because people didn't mind paying for genius and hard work he created and empire. So I've never minded supporting artists like him, or them. |

Talking eyeball to eyeball is so much more than anything we can get online We have been sold the concept that technology enhances life - while if fact, has been robbing us blind. It won't be much longer until I turn off the internet all together as well. |

So I've never minded supporting artists like him, or them. Justin Bieber... is that you? Oh shit, you blew my cover... I hope I didn't give the impression that I support the insane amount of money and percs totally clueless, untalented "musicians" (and I use the term lightly) make. I HATE the Justins, GooGoos, Springsteens, Stings, Whitney's etc of the "successful" and way over paid recording "artists" genre. I have no problem with people wanting it for free. Why they do is beyond me. Pretty much anything and everything you hear on the radio is over produced trash. And most of the time it's not what the "artist" wanted to out out there. It's what the self serving industry execs want them to record so they themselves can make more money. I'm talking about the multitude of genuinely creative "little guys" that actually NEED the funds to produce art with genuine integrity. I have no problem with supporting that. I' saying I don't like paying for record industry puppets Bentleys. But I'll gladly help pay for a smaller artist with integrity to buy a new guitar or pedal board so they can continue to entertain me. |
