A Stop Sign Has 8 Sides
A stop sign has 8 sides...

A stop sign also is a sign of control (the temple mount has 8 sides as well) -

The Vatican's Piazza San Pietro also has 8 sides:

The masonic symbol is also 8 sided (double square twisted 45 degrees)

The 8 pointed star (or octagon) is also known as the star of chaos:

Also known as theChaos Star(see also:Ordo ab Chao- "Out of chaos, order")."I should explain perhaps why the eight spoke wheel is so important. In thesky there is a great cross that seems stationary, and its formed bythe center of theMilky Waygalaxyand from the center point of ourcelestial equator to the southern point of the celestial equator, that's thedivine cross. Down here on the ground we have themundane crossthatis formed by the angles between equinox and the solstice and so forth, sothe eight armed cross, the eight rayed star, the 8 spoke wheel...allrepresentsthe alignment in space and time of the divine crossabove and the terrestrial mundane crossbelow. Now curiously enoughthis alignment only happens once every 13,000 years. Thesecrosses have not aligned since 11,000 B.C., roughly 13,000 years ago."[13](edited)See also:Great year- which is one complete cycle of theprecessionof the equinoxes, about25,765 years.o There are many versions of the 8-pointed star. One is known as the "DoubleSquare" (or "Star of Lakshmi") and is the Masonic symbol of twosuperimposed squares at 45° anglesrepresenting order and disorder (andprobably other dualistic concepts.

musings really, but if i no longer post here...

Let's look at the month of August (the 8th month) and the Dog Star (Sirius):

[link to www.space.com] ... -tips.html

The actual Dog Days, or "Canicular" days as they're known, are defined as the period from July 3 through Aug. 11 when the Dog Star, Sirius, rises in conjunction (or nearly so) with the sun. As a result, the classical Greek and Roman belief was that the combination of the brightest luminary of the day (the sun) and the brightest star of night (Sirius) were responsible for the extreme heat that is experienced during the middle of the northern summer. Other effects, according to the ancients, were droughts, plagues and madness.

snip

In ancient Egypt, the New Year began with the return of Sirius. It was, in fact, the "Nile Star" or the "Star of Isis" of the early Egyptians. Interestingly, some 5,000 years ago, this star's "heliacal rising" (appearing to rise just prior to the sun) occurred not in August, as is the case today, but rather on or around June 25.

When the ancient Egyptians saw Sirius rising just before the sun, they knew that the "Nile Days" were at hand. Its annual reappearance was a warning to people who lived along the Nile River. The star always returned just before the river rose, and so announced the coming of floodwaters, which would add to the fertility of their lands. People then opened the gates of canals that irrigated their fields.

Priests, who were the calendar keepers, sighted the first rising of the Dog Star from their temples. At the temple of Isis-Hathor at Denderah is a statue of Isis, which is located at the end of an aisle lined by tall columns. A jewel was placed in the goddess’ forehead. [Skywatching Events for August 2011]

The statue was oriented to the rising of Sirius, so that the light from the returning Dog Star would fall upon the gem. When the priests saw the light of the star shining upon the gem for the first time, they would march from the temple and announce the New Year. In the temple appears the inscription: "Her majesty Isis shines into the temple on New Year’s Day, and she mingles her light with that of her father Ra on the horizon."

Now let's look at the number 8:

Number of the perfection, the infinity. In mathematics the symbol of the infinity is represented by a 8 laid down.

Symbol of the cosmic Christ.

Number figuring the immutable eternity or the self-destruction. It represents also the final point of the manifestation.

In China, the 8 expresses the totality of the universe.

Number of the balance and of the cosmic order, according to the Egyptians.

Number expressing the matter, it is also the symbol of the incarnation in the matter which becomes itself creative and autonomous, governing its own laws.

The number eight corresponds to the New Testament, according to Ambroise.

It is the symbol of the new Life, the final Resurrection and the anticipated Resurrection that is the baptism.

According to Clement of Alexandria, the Christ places under the sign of 8 the one he made to be born again.

Represent the totality and the coherence of the creation in evolution. In China, it expresses the totality of the universe.

Represent the earth, not in its surface but in its volume, since 8 is the first cubic number.

The Pythagoreans have made the number 8 the symbol of the love and the friendship, the prudence and the thinking and they have called it the Great "Tetrachtys".

In Babylon, in Egypt and in Arabia, it was the number of the duplication devoted to the sun, from where the solar disc is decorated of a cross with eight arms.

The number 8 means the multiplicity, for the Japanese.

A favorable number, associated to the prosperity.

It is the number of the restful day, after the 7th day of the creation.

So we have the dogs days of summer - sirius rising with the sun - the flooding of the nile - control - and chaos - all wrapped up in the month of august...you with me?

Here's where it get's creepy:

I looked for the day in which August 8 occurs...Wednesday...then I looked up the origins of Wednesday:

Wednesday:

Certain clans of people who used to live in northern Europe believed in many gods and goddesses, especially the Vikings. But these ancient people believed that one god held power over all the rest and his name was Woden. Legend tells that Woden wanted more than anything to be wise, so he traveled the world in a quest for wisdom. In order to receive wisdom and knowledge he was required to give one of his eyes.

After doing so, he wore a large hat with a floppy brim to cover his missing eye. As Woden traveled he carried two blackbirds perched upon his shoulders. They acted as his spies and at night they flew down to Earth to gather information on the people, reporting back to their master each morning. Woden always knew all the happenings on the Earth and many things had to be done in secret for fear of Woden's disapproval. To honor Woden, the people named a day of the week after him. They named this day Wodnesdaeg, meaning Wednesday in English.

Let's look at Woden:

The same symbol known as a Sun Cross is also used to represent the chief god in Germanic paganism, Woden, and in Norse paganism, Odin. Woden and Odin are usually considered to be the same god; famous for being a bit of a trouble-maker and fond of starting wars. His symbol is not meant to be a cross, but like Taranis, it represents a wheel.

This wheel symbolizes the turning of life, into death. Perhaps this is why Hitler was fond of another rotating wheeled cross, the Swastika. In more recent times, Woden's symbol has been adopted by white nationalists. (See also the Yellow Cross.) These people glorify Aryan, Teutonic and Norse heritage, hence their appropriation of Woden's symbol and similar symbols.

(Of course, there are other people who appreciate some of the more spiritual things that Norse heritage provides them and some, such as the Scandinavian Asatruarfelagio, employ the same symbol. But this does not mean they are white supremacists. The Asatru Alliance, the Asatru Folk Assembly and the Troth are the three largest Germanic Neopagan groups in the USA and have publicly denounced racism.)

As mentioned above, the symbolism of Woden's Wheel differs from that of the Sun Cross, but like the sun, Woden has given us a name to use on our calendars; the middle of the week, Wednesday. It's the day that's furthest away from Sunday. "Wednesday's child is full of woe" alludes to Odin never being attributed with any cheerful disposition.

In Norse mythology, Odin was the highest ranking god and his symbol was a cross in a circle. Being the leader of the Wild Hunt, streaming across the skies in his chariot pulled by white horses, he is one of the foremost candidates for being the original Santa Claus. (See also St. Nicholas's Cross.)

Rather strange that Odin (or Woden), that grumpy old god, should be associated with jolly Santa.

Ok so we have all kinds of occult symbology and meaning behind the number 8 - August - and Wednesday and add to this...

August 8, 2012 - is also during the same time as the Summer 2012 Olympics.

Well a glass has a 360 degree circumference, depending on the glass.

A circle is a 360.

A button has a circumference of 360 degrees.

An Xbox 360 has many buttons controlling teenagers everywhere!

Glad I have a PS3. naughty

I'd say a stop sign has only two sides - a front and a back. The octagon shape of it has eight edges.
