Quoting: AtomicBetty "They should not be using our citizens as guinea pigs." Edit to add this article: Study says insecticide used with GM corn highly toxic to bees. An insecticide used as a seed treatment on genetically modified corn and other crops has been found to be highly toxic to honey bees, according to a study published recently in the journal PLoS ONE. The study may be a key to solving the mystery of Colony Collapse Disorder that has decimated bee populations over the last five years, causing losses of 30% and more of honey bee colonies every year since 2006, according to the US Department of Agriculture. SO..they have also caused the mass bee die-off it seems. [link to www.non-gmoreport.com] |

And also, the natural order of a plant is to go to seed to regrow at a later date ~ why mess with it? I do not want prettier, longer lasting food at the cost of health benefits. Also, the bees in our area are experiencing colony collapse syndrome. Any ideas on these? "Well-behaved women seldom make history." —Laurel Thatcher Ulrich I am only one, but I am one. Actually any feed stock with any gmo shit should be boycotted. I thought we might be able to use some beet pulp pellets here, then I discovered a few weeks ago, sugar beets are gmo'd now. Corn, soybeans, wheat, sugar beets, canola/rape seed should all be avoided unless they are Certified Organic. I would avoid alfalfa since it may already be gmo'd. Accidental Stoner User ID: 1191993 Finland 02/17/2012 04:01 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Not sure the battle is over in Europe yet, even if Monsanto seems to have suffered a row of setbacks lately. There is still Syngenta, Aventis, Pioneer, whathaveyou to deal with...it all started in Stockholm (haha, where else? ;) in 1911 with Pharmacia, didn't it? And their lobby is just as heavvy as their foundation is solid. Most EU porkers and beef have already been fed Frankenfodder for years! BASF's techno-taters (seems to be Monsanto's patent) are here to stay - potato must have been paramount for Northern EU business. Syngenta got their eyes on the future of sugar(beets). Most European cheeseries seem to use GM microbiology in the process. Etc etc. Quite happy to be a true born Finlander these days :) Good and sound ecologically and locally produced foods still easy to come by every day. People whine about the price - well, I'm not rich, but I've managed just fine this far. Priorities. Gives me hope to see Monsanto's ass getting kicked in the news almost once a week now. Just as long as it isn't merely regrouping tactics in the War On Food. Who knows. I'll keep on supporting the eco-farmers, no matter what. Not one bloody cent from my pocket to the Frankenfucks. |
