Re: irs took my tax refund to pay my student loans
My ex is $58,000 delinquent in child support, and the one year I was hoping to get his refund money to pay for some of that, the gov't snagged it for money he owed for his now fully grown daughter having been in a group home when she was a wild teen. They are ruthless for the $ sometimes. He always works under the table, so he pretty much never had a refund to offer up except that one time.

Re: irs took my tax refund to pay my student loans
something that's not being talked is the fact the only way you default is if you completley ignore the notices and the phone calls. they practically stalk you and beg you to please you fucking Moroni just stay on the phone for 10 minutes to give you forbearance for 6 months oh wait you need a year no problemo.

when you first sign the loans they make you attend an all day orientation where they tell your stupid ass if dontu pay your loans the gov can and will garnish your wages income social security etc.

basically op ignored all notices knowingly and apparently he has kids that he cant get to brush their teeth so that somehow gives him the right not to pay money he borrowed. it also tells me he hasn't paid a dime for the loans. if you paid 10 fucking dollars a month you not be defaulted and you would be able to keep your fat tax return that was taken from other people to you just because you have kids. now at the very least the American taxpayer will your loans for you and you can possibly net gain a free education. and you're still fucking complaining and playing victim!!!

cry me a fucking river op.

Op, while I do feel for you. And I do. When you signed the paperwork for the loan at the session the loan officer would have clearly told you by law what would happen if it wasn't paid off.

While I attended college, they were very very clear that a default on the loan would be cause for the IRS to take tax refunds to pay for it with No repayment option offered.

So, always make double sure to pay the damn things off because you can't get rid of them, as my sister and husband are finding out.

Ask your friends. How many have root canals? How many of those friends are taking medications for some vague disease on a daily basis? Of those people treated for non–responsive diseases, perhaps as many as 90 percent have root canals.

For example, Dr. Josef Issels of Germany found that in his 40 years of treating “terminal” cancer patients, 97 percent of his cancer patients had root canals.

It is no coincidence that in the US root canals have been found to abound in people with Multiple sclerosis, Lou Gehrig’s disease, Lupus, leukemia, diabetes, arthritis, and a host of other autoimmune diseases.

Hopefully you don't ever have to go through unfortunate events in life, they won't except 10.00 a month they would send it back. I want to pay this loan when I am able too, meaning when I am employed full time which will be soon. My daughter has epilepsy she takes medication which effects her teeth has nothing to do with brushing. I am merely mentioning it dies no good to complain or blame, I am showing people what happened to me feting ideas, learning and also mayby preventing someone else from making my mistake that is all.

Re: irs took my tax refund to pay my student loans
Dude you got to call them when your student loans send you bills, and tell them your broke. They will defer the payment till you can pay. Then you can pay an amount you can handle. I have deferred my payments since 1997, and always get my check. This happened to me before, and I learned my lesson the hard way. You can defer those payment until you collect social security, and at that time they will take some of it, maybe all.idk...happy deferring!!5a

Re: irs took my tax refund to pay my student loans
Dont do the student loans. I grew up with the responsibility that you pay for college yourself outright in full. Or the other option: you get a scholarship.

I got 100 percent Full Paid Scholarship, and was a Honors student. I got straight A all those four years of High School, one B and a letters jacket.

I didnt party nor sleep around. I STUDIED HARD !

You can too.

I'd never, ever consider those rip off loans.

Heard too many complaints about them.
 Quoting: APOLLO ILLUMINATI

1. some people just don't have the brain power to get straight a's and scholarships. You should count your blessings.

2. you cannot work your way through college anymore, because they've placed it out of financial reach. A person back in the 50's or 60's could get a job, work all summer, and pay for college for the rest of the year. Now days, you can get a job, work all summer, and barely pay for the gas in your car!

Same thing with medical care. etc. etc. etc.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10845620

Honest, we all have brain tissue, Just takes time reading and hunkering down. Most kids I knew were just into social scene, and didnt want to take time and read. It just takes discipline.

But I agree with you on the 50s . 60s, Anyone stop to think that the power of the dollar went down due to all the women entering the workforce? Might get pelted with misogynist comments but honestly, think about it, You go from majority men only in the workforce (their pay is like gold) and then you double that when women enter.

Look at box #2 on your W-2 form. That is federal income tax withheld, Probably only a few hundred dollars in your case.

So the thousands that your complaining about not getting were never yours in the first place. The money is either borrowed from China or stolen from your neighbors.

Why don't you go break into someones house and steal their flat screen to pay for your kids teeth. Most people are more comfortable letting the .Gov steal for them.

Re: irs took my tax refund to pay my student loans
We need to make student loans dischargable in bankruptcy once again. This option would only be available to those unable to repay their debts, but it would halt the tuition increases because lenders would have to tighten their lending standards and stop handing out loans to anyone with a pulse. If gambling debts, credit card debts and medical bills can be discharged in bankruptcy, there is no reason student loans should be held to a higher standard.

Re: irs took my tax refund to pay my student loans
Ok, OP. Here is some advice that won't involve belittling you for "being irresponsible" or random comments about "How the IRS sucks".

First off, you can make money in a lot of different ways. One of these ways is internet auction sites. Go to your local charity shop and look for stuff that you think that you can sell for a profit online. Look for books, clothes, furniture, whatever and if you see something that looks like a potential profit, buy it. Anything you see that you think is awesome and is cheap, means that someone online will pay you more for it. Keep your eye out for stuff that you know sucks, but OTHER people like. Hanna Montana is a big seller here and overseas. I seriously sold a pair of used Hanna Montana pink sparkly cowboy boots for twice what they were worth. Levi's 501 jeans are huge over seas, especially in the UK. A new pair of Levi's 501's sells for 80 GBP in London boutiques. That translates to about $140. You can buy them new for $40. Look for "job lots" or "group buys" of tools, electronics, antiques, anything you can get at a discount. All you need is one thing in the lot that gets your money back and then the rest is profit.

It is not hard and it only takes as much time as you wish to devote to it.
 Quoting: jailarson

I've got a better idea OP, change your name to Rothschild then you do nothing, and sit around and actually receive the money they just took from you. Then you can steal billions from the public while the idiot up above is selling Hanna Montana crap on ebay!

Do you even understand that these people are dealing with trillions of dollars, and your scraping in the gutter for a thousand crappy dollars!

They can steal billions on wall street, but if some poor kid gets got stealing a 12 dollar bottle of wine, off he goes to the corporate run prisons!
