Experts warn that any time a giant can start throwing ash to a height of 10 km above sea level, according to ITAR-TASS.
Plumes of volcanic gas and dust can be dangerous to fly both on local and international airlines in the region of Kamchatka.
Giant intensified the evening of 27 November, after a 36-year period of rest, which lasted from December 1976.
According to Russia's Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Service, the volcano recorded increased seismic activity. It is so high that, according to eyewitnesses, in the vicinity of the volcano observed ripples on the water in the rivers.
On the southern slope of the volcano cracks from which breaks fresh lava. Giant periodically emits ash to a height of 3 km above sea level.
In the vicinity of the village and in the May settlement of Krasny Yar noted falling ash. Roar from the eruption spread over tens of kilometers. He can be heard in the villages Keys Kozyrevsk, the May, which is about 50 - 60 km away from the foot.
Experts conduct close monitoring of the volcano. Expert Group plans today overflew its slopes by helicopter to assess the situation.

Ice-Free Crater Lakes on Ungava Peninsula

[link to eoimages.gsfc.nasa.gov]
These ice-free areas, seen in the top image above, are Pingualuit and Couture craters. The lower image shows just Pingualuit as seen from an airplane on October 12, 2007.

“The crater lakes hold such huge volumes of water in comparison to the surrounding glacial lakes that they’re slower to respond to temperature changes,” explained Reinhard Pienitz, a fresh water lake expert who recently led an expedition to Pingualuit to collect sediment cores. “Pingualuit Crater Lake is always the last to freeze in the winter and the last to melt in the spring.”

Hot summer temperatures in the Arctic made headlines when satellites observed widespread melting across Greenland in July 2012. Meteorological records from Environment Canada show that average temperatures at weather stations near the lakes have been above normal for every month since July.

Taal Volcano’s (14.0000°N, 120.9833°E) seismic network recorded sixteen (16) volcanic earthquakes during the past 24-hour observation period. One of these events which occurred at 11:35 AM yesterday was felt at Intensity I by residents of Barangay Calauit in the south-eastern part of the Volcano Island. Field measurements conducted on 27 November 2012 at the western sector of the Main Crater Lake yielded slight decrease in water temperature of 32.2°C from 32.5°C, a decrease in water level of 1.26 meters from 1.33 meters and increase in acidity of pH 2.78 from pH 2.87. Ground deformation survey (precise leveling) in the Volcano Island on 02-11 October indicated slight deflation compared with July 2012...

it's really interesting: magma circulation through the global connected ensemble of magma chambers

The global pattern of trace-element distributions in ocean floor basalts
[link to www.nature.com]
we show that the global distributions of trace elements in ocean floor basalts describe a systematic pattern that cannot be explained by simple fractional crystallization alone, but is due to cycling of magma through the global ensemble of magma chambers. Variability in both major and incompatible trace-element contents about the average global pattern is due to fluctuations in the magma fluxes into and out of the chambers, and their depth, as well as to differences in the composition of the parental magmas.

Jenkins sat up and took notice. This could be the answer to a puzzle he had stumbled across at work. Results from one of his experiments suggested that the sun was somehow speeding up the radioactive decay of an isotope he was studying - something that was not supposed to happen. The news report gave him an idea about how to test this peculiar finding. If the sun was indeed affecting radioactive half-lives, he wondered, what would happen when a solar storm slammed straight into Earth? He pulled out his laptop, logged into the university server and checked his experiment. What he saw stunned him.

The decay rates had dropped during the storm, as if the miasma of solar radiation was shielding the isotope in some way. It was either some sort of cruel coincidence, or another piece of evidence in an increasingly weird puzzle. But that wasn't all: a more detailed analysis showed that the decay rate had begun to fall more than 24 hours before the flare was even visible.

by the way if it is in the end is finally confirmed in particular will mean the collapse of the entire modern geochronology , neutrello also sounds very intriguing LoL

Recent Observations at the middle east rift zone vents: Lava flows remained active in two branches on the coastal plain: a tiny western branch, and a larger eastern branch with scattered surface activity extending from the pali to the coast east of the easternmost boundary of Hawai`i Volcanoes National Park. Lava began entering the ocean yesterday morning at about 9:30. A small plume was visible via webcam through the day yesterday and continues this morning.

Experts warn dangerous build-up of magma occurring at many of Japan’s 110 active volcanoes

Posted on December 3, 2012

December 3, 2012 – JAPAN – Japan should brace for a catastrophic volcanic eruption at some point, say experts, citing a massive buildup of magma at many of the nation’s 110 active volcanoes. The last particularly serious eruption in Japan occurred in 1914, when Mount Sakurajima in southern Kagoshima Prefecture blew its top. According to study by volcanologists, Japan, which lies on the Pacific Rim of Fire, has been shaken by more than 1,000 volcanic eruptions over the past 2,000 years. “The possibility of a major eruption in the future is real,” said Yoichi Nakamura, a professor of volcanology at Utsunomiya University who has been analyzing volcanic eruptions with a team of researchers. To be classified as active, a volcano must have erupted within the past 10,000 years or still be spewing gases, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. The active volcanoes include sites in the disputed Northern Territories off northeastern Hokkaido, as well as undersea volcanoes. Of the 110 active volcanoes, the agency monitors activity of the 47 around the clock to detect signs of an imminent eruption. When offshore Mount Sakurajima erupted, it spewed out so much lava that it created a land bridge with the Osumi Peninsula. Volcanic ash even fell on eastern Japan. The researchers said seismic activity surged at 20 active volcanoes around Japan, including Mount Fuji, after the magnitude-9.0 Great East Japan Earthquake struck last year. It was one of the most powerful earthquakes on record. It struck with such force that the Japanese land mass shifted. Over the past century, volcanic eruptions around the world were apparently triggered by magnitude-9.0 or stronger earthquakes that struck several years earlier. Nakamura also is involved with the nonprofit Vocanological Society of Japan. He said the study was intended to help local officials prepare for a contingency resulting from a major eruption by assessing the risks posed by volcanoes around the country. Particularly worrisome, he said, was a lack of data pointing to a reduction in magma. In the absence of a really huge eruption for a century suggested there was a massive buildup of magma, which at some point will inevitably spew from a volcano with tremendous force. According to the study, 1,162 eruptions have occurred in Japan over the past 2,000 years. Of these, 52 were major events that spewed a massive volume of ash and lava over a short period. It amounts to a large-scale eruption occurring every 38 years. Records show that three volcanic eruptions in the 17th century, including one at Mount Hokkaido-Komagadake in Hokkaido in 1640, spewed out the equivalent of 1 billion cubic meters of ash and lava. Two similar eruptions occurred in the 18th century, one of which involved Mount Fuji in 1707. The study showed that relatively large eruptions occurred 124 times. There were 562 instances of medium-scale eruptions, or one every 3.6 years. These included the eruption of Mount Unzen-Fugendake in Nagasaki Prefecture in 1991 and the eruption of Mount Usuzan in Hokkaido in 2000. Of the 1,162 eruptions, the 47 volcanoes consistently monitored by the Japan Meteorological Agency represent nearly 90 percent of the activity, or 1,012 of those events. Mount Aso in Kumamoto Prefecture is the most active volcano with 167 recorded eruptions, followed by Mount Asama straddling Nagano and Gunma prefectures, at 124; Mount Sakurajima, at 91; Mount Izu-Oshima in Tokyo, at 77; and Mount Kirishima straddling Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures, at 70. Mount Fuji has erupted 38 times. –AJW [link to theextinctionprotocol.wordpress.com]

Earthquake swarms could indicate eruption near Nisyros, Greece

A seismic swarm of 2000 microearthquakes near the island of Nisyros since 24 November could indicate a start of a or coming of a volcanic eruption near Nisyros.
The quakes are located between the area of Simi Island (Greece) and the Bozburun peninsula of SW Turkey: click here for a map and list of quakes.
Information is still scanty, but seismic signals from this possible eruption are very similar to those recorded from current volcanic eruptions.
If an eruption is taking place, it would form a new submarine volcano near Nisyros.

December 4, 2012 – CALIFORNIA - An energetic earthquake swarm centered beneath rhyolite domes in the Coso Volcanic Field (CA) continues, with over 20 earthquakes ranging between M1 and M3 so far today. Many smaller events (hundreds) are recorded as well. The swarm initiated on 27 November and has included earthquakes as large as M3.7. The Coso Volcanic Field is located in Inyo County, California, at the western edge of the Basin and Range geologic province and northern region of the Mojave Desert. The Coso Volcanic Field is one of the most seismically active regions in the United States, producing dozens of tremors in the M1 and M2 range each week. Tremors in the M3 range occur at a rate of 2-6 per month and M4 quakes occur two-three times each year. Recent activity in the M5 range happened in 1996 and 1998 when tremors of M5.3, M5.1, M5.2, and M5.0 occurred with a day of each other. These tremors were actually recorded along the eastern side of the Coso Volcanic Field, 15 miles (24 km). September 30, 2009 to October 6, 2009 there have been 429 earthquakes ranging from 0.1 up to a 5.2. Some days have activity just about one every minute. On October 2, 2009 there were three earthquakes (5.2, 4.7, and a 4.9) all within one hour of each other. Earthquake swarms are common in the Coso area, often producing hundreds of tremors over periods of time as short as a few days. This kind of brisk and robust seismic activity is common in volcanic areas, such as Long Valley Caldera located near Mammoth Lakes, and Yellowstone Caldera at Yellowstone. Geologists say the last eruption of the volcanic fields occurred 30 to 40,000 years ago. –Earthquake Report, Wikipedia [link to theextinctionprotocol.wordpress.com]
