Recent Observations at the middle east rift zone vents: An approximately 1 km-wide (0.6 mi wide) lava flows remained active on the coastal plain with scattered surface activity extending from near the pali to the coast east of the easternmost boundary of Hawai`i Volcanoes National Park (see images); parts of the westernmost edge of the flow are within the National Park. An intermittent ocean entry marked by a weak and variable plume resumed this morning near Kupapa`u after an absence over the past two days.

Field measurements conducted on 18 December 2012 at the eastern sector of the Main Crater Lake yielded slight increase in water temperature of 34.0°C from 33.1°C, and decrease in water level of 1.10 meters from 1.21 meters. Ground deformation survey in the Volcano Island on 03-15 December 2012 denoted very slight inflation at Calauit, Daang Kastila and New Eruption Site precise leveling lines. Furthermore, GPS data for the period of October 2012 to December 2012 show inflationary changes in ground deformation while the edifice is still slightly inflated in general compared to February 2011 baseline data...

In the last 24 hours the monitoring system of Popocatepetl volcano registered 77 low to moderate-intensity exhalations accompanied by emissions of steam and gas, and sometimes small amounts of ash. The most important was recorded today at 08:43 h (local time) that caused a column of gas and ash that rose 2 km above the crater (see image 1),
