While having a look at the Stromboli webcams, I could see the a nice lava flow was travelling down the Sciara del Fuoco! This is confirmed by the thermal camera.

The Tinakula volcano got stressed by so many nearby massive earthquakes. People at Ndende island (Santa Cruz Islands) are reporting that they have heard loud rumblings from the volcanoes direction. They have however other concerns that looking at the beauty of an erupting volcano. Volcanologists are saying that there can only be a relation in between earthquakes and nearby volcanoes when the volcano is almost ready to erupt. The earthquake may accelerate that process.

...But what about Canadian volcanoes?Meager,Cayley,Garibaldi,and especially Silverthrone. Silverthrone is a 20 by 30 km caldera that is explosive,erupts dacite,and has recent lava flows and is the most poorly studied.The Geological survey for Canada doesn't even have a volcano section.They removed it.They didn't have Silverthrone either...

...Sipuru Rove says the uninhabited island of Tinakula, which is about 50 kilometres north of Lata, has being making loud and strange sounds.

He says help and information is needed from technical experts to assess the risk posed to the local community by the volcano as they are worried an eruption could be near.

“The volcanic activity on one of the islands that is off Lata is alarming at the moment. And this will really require scientific special people to assist us in assessing this volcanic activity which is beginning to be abnormal”...

Judging from the eruptive tremor and the webcam images, it seems Mount Etna went through another strombolian episode last night between 21:30 and 23:00. Once again, the weather was not good enough to watch the show. Besides, the webicorders had decided to stop working.

Mount St Helens in 2004 made a virtually non-explosive eruption emitting practically the same magma composition (dacite) as in 1980, when it exploded. On the other hand, a basaltic volcano can be surprisingly explosive if the gas is there - Etna, more than any other basaltic volcano, has so much gas in its magma (1 million tons of water vapor and 50,000 to 100,000 tons of carbon dioxide are emitted every day from Etna), that many of its eruptions are rather explosive.

Vanuatu's Geohazards agency indicated that minor phreatic activity has been occurring at Lombenben volcano on Aoba (Ambae) island. Scientists detected a patch of mud at the tuff cone built during the eruption of 2005. The entire surface of Lake Vui showed increased evaporation and inhabitants of a nearby village have noticed abnormal activity since December 2012. Satellite measurements showed increased SO2 emission rates between 18 and 25 January. Geohazard maintains the Volcanic Alert Level of Aoba at Level 1. The area of risk remains near the Manaro Voui crater. "This volcano activity may remain as it is and decrease but there is a low probability of neglecting the gradual increase of the alert in the coming months", Geohazard writes. [link to hisz.rsoe.hu]
