- The situation might be changing with the strongest earthquake not of today but for the past years, a M4.9! At 20km depth and W FRONTERA, at sea.
- Shacking reported by many people around the island. [link to earthquake-report.com]
 Quoting: Luisport

- We are receiving reports of strong shacking also at the island La Palma
 Quoting: Luisport

yes, look more attentively ( not at 3d or even 4D amateur plots in vc tounge peace) at locations of the most strong eqs , including last : they are exactly at local fault line,
so that:
but that now much more important: the spanish volcanologists long overdue to think seriously about the general trend of processes occurring near the islands and attract them to a comprehensive analysis of good experts in the field of tectonics

all day continued fun "dancing with a tambourine" around the magnitude of the strongest held still eqs: it was lowered to 4.6, then rose again to 4.9, etc.
but the most interesting and funny is not even that. against the background noise of this "dances" quietly and unobtrusively the location of the stongest eq epicenter was significantly moved, even at EMSC site:
originally it was exactly at fault line between El Hierro and La Palma, far to the north of El Hierro - now it's location to the west of El Hierro :

The marine geology commented yesterday that there does lurk the possibility of a landslide causing a Tsunami.

watching the last days of one eye and for Etna, and that's what an interesting correlation comes to mind:
active Etna - Canary sleep,
quietly on Etna - begins the next El Hierro "crisis".
brings to mind an open German geophysicists huge lava "tunnel" from the Canary Islands under mountains in Morocco and Tunisia - perhaps even to Sicily? cool2

then the question :
Etna seems going "up"

if it confirms, then is whether the El Hierro seismic crisis ends ? wakeup

During all of my public presentations about Mount Etna, I try to end the show with a most glorious and spectacular bit of movie and music - some of these are already in my YouTube video collection (such as the 29 August 2011 and 5 January 2012 movie clips). For many years, before the resumption of lava fountains at Etna in January 2011, I showed a "Gran Finale" with footage of the lava fountains at the Southeast Crater in the year 2000; however, much of that footage was not mine, and I always hoped that one day I would have enough of my own video material to create a new "Gran Finale" out of it. A few bits came on quite soon, but it took a long time to get other good shots I absolutely wanted, especially of those fabulous exploding lava bubbles that sometimes occur at the end of an episode of lava fountaining. Well, now I have so much of my own material that it is difficult to choose the bits that should go in the new "Gran Finale". But slowly, very slowly, things are coming together, and here's a short video showing the first minute of the new "Grand Finale"...

Flow of Canary mantle plume material through a subcontinental lithospheric corridor beneath Africa to the Mediterranean

full text

Abstarct
We present geochemical data of lavas from northwest Africa, allowing us for the first time to carry out large-scale “mapping” of sublithospheric mantle flow beneath the northwest African plate.

Our study indicates that Canary mantle plume material traveled laterally along a subcontinental lithospheric corridor (i.e., at depths that are usually occupied by continental lithospheric mantle) more than 1500 km to the western Mediterranean, marking its route over the last 15 m.y. through a trail of intraplate volcanism. A three-dimensional geodynamic reconstruction, integrating results from geophysical studies, illustrates that long-distance lateral flow of mantle material into and through a subcontinental lithospheric corridor can be caused by a combination of (1) deflection of upwelling plume material along the base of the lithosphere, (2) delamination of subcontinental mantle lithosphere beneath northwest Africa, and (3) subduction suction related to the rollback of the subducting oceanic plate in the western Mediterranean. Although the flow of plume material beneath oceanic lithosphere to mid-ocean ridges or along the base of continental rifts has been previously shown, this study demonstrates that plume material can also flow large lateral distances through subcontinental corridors from suboceanic to nonrifting subcontinental settings, generating continental intra-plate volcanism without the need for a plume to be located directly beneath the continent.

...The three-dimensional model illustrates how Canary mantle plume material flows along the base of the oceanic lithosphere that thins to the east (Neumann et al., 1995) and into the subcontinental lithospheric corridor beneath the Atlas system, reaching the western Mediterranean:
[link to geology.gsapubs.org]

...Elevated topography, high heat flow, and gravity and geoid anomalies point to the existence of an abnormally shallow lithosphere-asthenosphere boundary beneath the western part of the Atlas system (60–80 km, compared to 130–160 km for normal northwest African lithospheric thickness), as illustrated on six lithospheric profiles across northwest Africa (Urchulutegui et al., 2006; Missenard et al., 2006; Teixell et al., 2005) (Fig. 1). The region of abnormally thin lithosphere forms a northeast-striking subcontinental lithospheric corridor beneath northwest Africa...

...This study allows the northwest African upper mantle composition to be mapped for the first time and provides new constraints for mantle flow and the origin of continental intraplate volcanism....

Evidence for Flow of Canary Mantle Plume Material Through a Subcontinental Lithospheric Corridor Beneath Northwest Africa

...The geochemical and geophysical constraints now available suggest that Canary mantle plume material only flowed laterally beneath northwest Africa through a lithospheric corridor, causing continental intraplate volcanism above it...

It has been shown that flow of mantle plume material can take place beneath oceanic lithosphere to mid-ocean ridges (Schilling, 1973) or along the base of continental rifts (Ebinger and Sleep, 1998). Our study demonstrates that plume material can flow large lateral distances from suboceanic to nonrifting subcontinental settings through subcontinental corridors also, causing continental intraplate volcanism without the need for a plume to be located directly beneath the continent...

Without flow of Canary mantle plume material into the northwest African subcontinental lithospheric corridor, volcanism on the easternmost Canary Islands is likely to have been extinct long ago or at most to have generated only minor volumes of lava. ...

Geological history

Avachinsky lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, at a point where the Pacific Plate is sliding underneath the Eurasian Plate at a rate of about 80 mm/year. A wedge of mantle material lying between the subducting Pacific Plate and the overlying Eurasian Plate is the source of dynamic volcanism over the whole Kamchatka Peninsula.

The volcano is one of the most active volcanoes on the Kamchatka Peninsula, and began erupting in the middle to late Pleistocene era. It has a horseshoe-shaped caldera, which formed 30-40,000 years ago in a major landslide which covered an area of 500 km² south of the volcano, underlying the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Reconstruction of a new cone inside the caldera occurred in two major eruption phases, 18,000 and 7,000 years ago.[
Recent activity

Avachinsky has erupted at least 16 times in recorded history. Eruptions have generally been explosive, and pyroclastic flows and lahars have tended to be directed to the south west by the breached caldera. The most recent large eruption (VEI=4) occurred in 1945, when about 0.25 km³ of magma was ejected. The volcano has since had small eruptions in 1991 and 2001.

The volcano continues to experience frequent earthquakes, and many fumaroles exist near the summit. The temperature of gases emitted at these fumaroles has been measured at over 400°C. In light of its proximity to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Avachinsky was designated a Decade Volcano in 1996 as part of the United Nations' International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction, together with the nearby Koryaksky volcano.

Without flow of Canary mantle plume material into the northwest African subcontinental lithospheric corridor, volcanism on the easternmost Canary Islands is likely to have been extinct long ago or at most to have generated only minor volumes of lava. ...

watching the last days of one eye and for Etna, and that's what an interesting correlation comes to mind:
active Etna - Canary sleep,
quietly on Etna - begins the next El Hierro "crisis".
brings to mind an open German geophysicists huge lava "tunnel" from the Canary Islands under mountains in Morocco and Tunisia - perhaps even to Sicily? cool2

then the question :
Etna seems going "up"
[link to www.ct.ingv.it]
if it confirms, then is whether the El Hierro seismic crisis ends ? wakeup

interesting...since the beginning of the El Hierro "seismic crisis" was no one Etna's paroxysm, although before it starts they came at Etna one by one...
