Increase in activity at #Tolbachik volcano, #Kamchatka. Lava flow 15 metres wide moving 5 metres per second.

hmm...will look at local websites

VONA/KVERT DAILY REPORT
Kamchatkan and Northern Kuriles Volcanic Activity
April 04, 2013, all time is UTC
PLOSKY TOLBACHIK VOLCANO (CAVW #1000-24-)
55.83 N, 160.39 E; Elevation 10119 ft (3085 m)
Aviation Color Code is ORANGE
Strong seismicity of the volcano was registered. An amplitude of volcanic tremor was up to 4.1 mcm/s. Explosive-effusive eruption continues: lava flows continues to effusing from the Southern fissure on Tolbachinsky Dol. Incandescence of the lava flow deposits, and strong gas-steam activity accompany this process. A big thermal anomaly was noting on satellite images at the northern area of Tolbachinsky Dol.

Latest news from Tolbachik from Volcano Observatory in village Kluchi

Survey of Tolbachik eruption

31/03/13 5:47 evacuated tourists Tolud
Today, at about 13:00 local time, with a strong westerly wind, with field base Tolud shot foreign tourists and took them to Esso.
On Tolbachik in breakthrough were two other photographers. They refused to take off. Sit there for two weeks.
tounge

03.04.13 18:03
On Tolbachik could fly only the third attempt. First helicopter broke, then thick clouds prevented to land and only 1 April hardly abandoned.
Caught in a cyclone - all day on April 2, it was snowing and the wind was blowing. We were hooked another helicopter from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, but was unable to fly back - closed clouds. We spent the night without sleeping flown at -20 C. But in the morning, April 3, was gorgeous weather, and that's working. But for us at 9:00 flew a helicopter.
Despite the tight deadlines and difficult weather conditions the job done.
In the windows above the lava flow managed to select the volcanic gases. Geologists have fresh samples from lava flows. Evaluated the lava flow on the stream width of about 10-15 m and velocity - about - 3 m / s, to a depth of 3 m - it was in the range of 60 to 100 m3/sec.
This is associated with increased activity of the eruption in the last 2 days.
Photo and video made its outflow of lava and the formation of its various forms. The main lava flows extend towards Tolud. One stream flows south to Lazo. At night you can watch the fantastic picture - all in flames

basing on yesterday's NASA say shot (no fresh) still can not say anything definite, we can only note some interesting details
[link to lance-modis.eosdis.nasa.gov]
firstly, relatevely stable cloud formations (fixed breaks) to the south-east of Grimsey . i.e. in area of shallow eqs and main swarm . sometimes such formations indicates underwater processes.
then, to the north from Grimsey, where no clouds, there is even a small but visible change in color of the ocean surface.
finally, to the east and south-east from swarm area visible cloud formations similar to the so-called "heralds" earthquake precursors. there is a formula to calculate the intensity of the coming earthquake in length like cloud formations (experienced seismologists forecast is confirmed by her quite well). in this case, the intensity and the area of these formations is small, so if trust in this predictor in the TFZ very strong earthquakes in the future is not expected (though IMO seems to be a different opinion - they write on their website that it is possible the continuation of strong shocks and spread to the south-east)

That noise ...
Here is a short bit of video that I recorded during the climax of the powerful episode of lava fountaining (paroxysm) at Etna's New Southeast Crater on the afternoon of 3 April 2013:
[link to www.flickr.com]
...
The detonations were heard over a vast area around Etna, including Catania, nearly 30 km away. My wife told me that in our home in Tremestieri Etneo, 20 km south of the crater, the detonations were rather powerful, much louder than the din of the traffic on the nearby main road of the village. The loud bangs caused astonishment and apprehension among many inhabitants of the Etna area.

returning to the game of questions and answers tounge

why is this such a paroxysm was accompanied by an unusually strong roar that even Boris (best expert who has lived there for decades and watched hundreds of paroxysms) noted:
" in reality it is still there and
possibly bigger than ever before"
"That noise ..."

(links above)

what determines the volume and features of the sounds of the eruption?

Another day, another paroxysm at Etna. This one was quite spectacular event in the new Southeast Crater — Dr. Boris Behncke captured some of the splendid lava fountaining from this eruption. Interestingly, he noted that the most impressive feature of this paroxysm, the 34th since the start of 2011, was the sound

OK, I'll tell you. we're doomed. imho. the temps here, on a calm, slightly breezy sunny day, are 7-8c, about 6c lower than where they should be on a day like this this time of the year. It's a lovely day out there. we should be much warmer than this. This is ALL down to Kamchatka I reckon.

ok, just a local thing, yes, probably, but I have been seeing this get worse and worse this past couple of years. Now, Katla Hekla Askja and others in Iceland are due to erupt, and this Baekdu volcano, along with the ones in Kamchatka will seal our doom imho.

it won't take much more s02 up there to start a chain reaction of very cold winters, very cool summers, and bang, mini ice age and possibly a full blown ice age, before you can say polar bear

rofl

you gotta laugh, eh? lol

by the way, interesting stuff going on on our roads this past few months. They are cutting back trees. this is WAY beyond simple maintenance. They are going back about 30-40 feet from all the main roads and motorways, as well as all of the minor roads. ALL of them. They seem to be in an awful rush. Are they getting rid of a proportion of the nasty C02 guzzlers, in an underhand way? chuckle

anyone else seeing strange shit like this going on in their countries too?

burn a tyre!

you know it makes sense! we need more delicious c02 up there, and fucking QUICK!

...Abnormalities on the underwater volcano
...The researchers report that the submarine volcano continues to record anomalous physicochemical parameters, as noted during the campaign of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography RAPROCAN in December 2012, but now, the anomalies are much higher and also there is a significant increase linked water temperature at the bottom of up to 3 degrees. The measured pH was 7.4, which represents an acidification of 0.5 points compared to normal conditions. Salinity, alkalinity and total inorganic carbon also exhibit high values relative to normal. However, in no case was detected significant concentrations of reduced sulfur compounds. In the absence of a definitive analysis, zooplankton communities have values of abundance and biomass relatively normal...
VULCANO now heads towards the northwest of the island of El Hierro, the epicenter of recent earthquakes with magnitudes of up to 4.9 on the Richter scale, where studies continue with the water column.

The seismic recording (left) shows today no curves and rashes...
The internal pressure remains high, although it will fall in the next few days after a settling phase slightly. Approx. 10 cm vertical deformation are stored safely. We expect that in the summer of 2012 resulting surface deformation to do so, we come to more than 20 cm deformation.
Each new surge in great depth with new magma supply will strengthen this balance yet. It is also fairly exclude that has been set on the seabed at 3,000 meters depth already a vent. Then the GPS readings would show other data.
So we now wait again until he starts the next action.
It is interesting and exciting to see how this volcano builds and develops slowly.

A seismic swarm in northern Iceland

The earthquake swarm at El Hierro seems to be declining but close monitoring of the situation is highly advisable...
The Civil Protection Agency indicates that earthquake cycles can potentially last for a long time, even weeks, and that it is advisable to expect the quakes to continue, even if the cycle appears to have ended. Residents in the area have been instructed on how to prepare themselves in the case of a larger earthquake hitting. People are advised not to put valuables on a high shelf or hang heavy objects above their beds.

The massive Tambora stratovolcano forms the entire 60-km-wide Sanggar Peninsula on northern Sumbawa Island. The largely trachybasaltic-to-trachyandesitic volcano grew to about 4000 m elevation before forming a caldera more than 43,000 years ago. Late-Pleistocene lava flows largely filled the early caldera, after which activity changed to dominantly explosive eruptions during the early Holocene. Tambora was the source of history's largest explosive eruption, in April 1815. Pyroclastic flows reached the sea on all sides of the peninsula, and heavy tephra fall devastated croplands, causing an estimated 60,000 fatalities. The eruption of an estimated more than 150 cu km of tephra formed a 6-km-wide, 1250-m-deep caldera and produced global climatic effects. Minor lava domes and flows have been extruded on the caldera floor at Tambora during the 19th and 20th centuries.

basing on yesterday's NASA say shot (no fresh) still can not say anything definite, we can only note some interesting details
[link to lance-modis.eosdis.nasa.gov]
firstly, relatevely stable cloud formations (fixed breaks) to the south-east of Grimsey . i.e. in area of shallow eqs and main swarm . sometimes such formations indicates underwater processes.
then, to the north from Grimsey, where no clouds, there is even a small but visible change in color of the ocean surface.
finally, to the east and south-east from swarm area visible cloud formations similar to the so-called "heralds" earthquake precursors. there is a formula to calculate the intensity of the coming earthquake in length like cloud formations (experienced seismologists forecast is confirmed by her quite well). in this case, the intensity and the area of these formations is small, so if trust in this predictor in the TFZ very strong earthquakes in the future is not expected (though IMO seems to be a different opinion - they write on their website that it is possible the continuation of strong shocks and spread to the south-east)

this is even more

someone thought what means so many shallow earthquakes in the TFZ ?
[link to en.vedur.is]
which have "low quality" in above table?
ok, where close glacier it's relatevely clear .
but when such shocks with unclear location and unclear depth fixed at the bottom of the sea?
very worth reflecting ohyeah

it seems that the swarm intensity decreases

looks not good , very shallow

Update 10:49 UTC : We have added a Google Earth screenshot to the image series. This Google earth image shows very clearly the many volcanic bubbles at the ocean floor, a result of the separating diverging plates. [link to earthquake-report.com]

possibly caused by undersea eruption.

a very high degree of probability that this is so,
and not only he thinks about it

without going into unnecessary detail (3D, 4D)
really many signs of a high probability that the underwater eruption begins or even already started
(it should search on the Icelandic site articles of local experts).

Volcano Type: Stratovolcano
Volcano Status: Historical
Last Known Eruption: 1967 ± 20 years
Summit Elevation: 2850 m 9,350 feet
Latitude: 8.25°S 8°15'0"S
Longitude: 118.00°E 118°0'0"E

During the past few days, the observatories raised the alert level of several volcanoes:
- In Chile, an increase in seismicity was observed on Lascar, together with an intensification of steam emissions. The colour of the alert level was raised to Yellow for the region of San Pedro de Atacama.
- In Indonesia, an increase in seismicity caused the alert level of Tambora (Lesser Sunda Islands) and Guntur(West Java) to be raised to 2 (Waspada

Through IP cameras installed in the area and especially in March, there
were weak gas columns mainly white, with a maximum height of 600
meters. During the evening of day 02, 03 and April 4 glow was observed in the active crater.

I so rarely see these calderas listed on the ranks of major eruptions which shows indeed how limited the science is. I know it is far from scientific but simple caldera size is a reason I'm not ready to implicate Rinjani for 1258. If the math from the residue is correct, we've got something beyond Tambora or Krakatau. I can see for myself what happened to those latter two. Rinjani's crater just doesn't seem big enough.. I have read a few articles mentioning the cluster theory, and the latter idea might have its evidence somewhere under the Pacific.
