Yeah i watched the channel 5 documentary. Scary stuff.

With the potential for the UK to be affected by sulphuric acid mist, i'm considering buying some gas masks!

i think they were just unlucky a strong high pressure dragged the s02 down from the upper atmosphere

fact is though, it happened once and can happen again, and this time there are FAR more people here

if you equate the deaths back then to today you're talking about over 100000 deaths

April 28, 2013
...Since yesterday afternoon so far, 70 have been recorded signals long period events and tremor 13 emission periods, marking a clear shift to the values obtained in the previous days where the average was 12 earthquakes per day. From 05h30 TL today there was a very energetic emission signal which produced a column of steam with average content of ash that rose about 4 km above the crater, the column was maintained steadily with a height of 2.5 km for about 30 minutes. It was observed that the column began remained scattered on all sides of the volcano, which produced minor ash falls in several areas near the volcano's flanks (Figure 2). At the time of issue of this report maintains a column height of 1 km (approx) and toward the West.
Figure 2. - Issuance of steam and ash from the volcano Tungurahua, at 06h19 from April 28, 2013. Scattering of ashes from all sides of the volcano. Source. OVT / IGEPN
In satellite images shows that the emission column is directed towards the western side of the volcano and southwestern until 07h45 pen has a southwestern direction and is located approximately 100 km away from the crater...

...If you compare this to the photos taken from the same viewing point in 2011 and 2012 (see comments), you will appreciate the growth of this cone, both in width and height. But you may also note that there is a deep scar on the near side (the eastern flank) of the cone, marked by reddish brown hues. This scar formed early during the lava fountaining episode on 27 April 2013, when lava pushed through the side of the cone, scooping out a section of the flank above, which formed a thick avalanche at the base of the cone, and a series of pyroclastic flows, while lava was emitted from the base of the scar.

Not much is left to see of the old cone of the Southeast Crater, the peak farthest to the left, though it is still a few tens of meters taller than the new cone. It might not remain so for long ...

Many towns and villages, especially in the southeastern, eastern and northeastern sectors of Etna have repeatedly received heavy tephra fallout, and driving through these areas you are gradually invaded by a sensation of sadness, it's all black and dusty, there are incredible amounts of scoriae and ash piled up along roads, the colors of spring are suppressed, and people are reluctant to put much effort into cleaning up because too many times they had just cleaned up and a few hours later, everything was covered with a fresh layer of black pyroclastics.

Irpsit says:

March 23, 2013 at 19:47

And I was going to post the following: “It seems Hekla is having an earthquake about every 3 days. Since last earthquake it is about time to see another earthquake, probably happening tomorrow”

And the earthquake just happened!

I think there are major changes precursor to an eruption in Hekla. I think there is a high change of Hekla erupting within the next days. Now I am even more confident that it might erupt.

So today we had a 1.4 deep earthquake, following a major strain event at Hekla.

The sequence of events should be this:
- earthquakes like this one, a few of them, starting about 1-2 hours before the eruption
- then, a major strain event
- then, larger earthquakes and tremor starts (this is 20min before the eruption)
- after that, the eruption starts with a major explosion and a ash cloud following it
- the ash column last 1 to a few days and then large lava fountains follow for several days to weeks
[link to volcanocafe.wordpress.com]
 Quoting: Luisport

a lot possible mistakes (which however is quite excusable for amateur observes as in volkanocafe cool2):

firstly, eqs "like this one" will last a long time (a month - six weeks) at intervals of a day or two, then followed a sharp increase in magnitude and only after that, "1-2 hour " later (more likely 6-8 hours) will eruptive phase.
then, " major strain event" and eruptive phase will start simultaneously, tremor before will almost absent (or extremely short time).
finally, not necessarily be the beginning of an explosive nature, the first phase may be numerous fissure eruptions of lava and then blasts the main crater and ash emissions tounge

two forecasts about eruption development : will see which one will be closer to the truth verycool

and yet here forecast for time

no, it had not yet begun,
all the fun starts after the arrival of warm weather is stable and strong melting

end of April or May cool2

not earlier

Supervolcano eruptions may not be so deadly after all

...If Graf and Lane are right, a supervolcano eruption might not cool the global climate much. But that doesn't make it harmless. Anyone within 100 kilometres of the blast would almost surely be killed by a vast quilt of hot ash and gas smothering the landscape. The key point affecting species' survival would be where this cloud headed. The Indonesian "hobbits" (Homo floresiensis) only survived Toba because the ash cloud travelled west – away from their home island of Flores.

And even if the climate did not change much, there would be global consequences if a supervolcano erupted today. After all, the minor eruption of Iceland's Eyjafjallajökull in 2010 was enough to disrupt air transport for weeks. "If Yellowstone went up, US industry would be very strongly harmed," says Graf.

Hekla volcano (Iceland): strong inflation suggest volcano could be close to erupting

Posted on May 1, 2013by The Extinction Protocol

May 1, 2013 – ICELAND - The famous Icelandic volcano is showing further signs that indicate an eruption could occur in a near future. Significant rapid inflation, concentrated in the northern part of the volcano, has been detected since early April and likely represents accumulation of rising magma underneath. Already in mid March this year, an earthquake swarm, volcanic tremor and deformation caused an alert, because it was believed that this was caused by rapid movement of magma under the volcano. The last eruption of the volcano was in March 2000, and it is estimated that by now, a significantly larger volume of magma has since then accumulated beneath the volcano. This would mean that a new eruption should be expected to be larger than the last one. Hekla’s eruptions normally begin with a powerful explosive phase, and could pose a significant hazard to anyone in close (less than 10 km) proximity during the onset of it. –Volcano Discovery

Growing threat from Iceland volcanoes: British researchers say some Icelandic volcanoes could produce eruptions just as explosive as those in the Pacific Rim, with disruptive ash clouds. Previously, scientists had thought that Icelandic magma was less “fizzy” — containing less volcanic gases like carbon dioxide — than that in Pacific Ocean volcanoes, and expected much less explosive eruptions by comparison. However, research by Britain’s The Open University and Lancaster University said they’ve found evidence of Icelandic magma twice as “fizzy” as previously believed, increasing the likelihood of future eruptions like that of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in 2010 that created ash clouds that disrupted air travel over large parts of Europe. The researchers analyzed pumice and lava from an eruption at Iceland’s Torfajokull volcano some 70,000 years ago to search for evidence of the levels of gases from water and carbon dioxide in the eruption. “I was amazed by what I found,” Lancaster University doctoral student Jacqui Owen said. “I measured up to 5 percent of water in the inclusions, more than double what was expected for Iceland, and similar in fact to the values for explosive eruptions in the Pacific ‘Ring of Fire.’ “We knew the Torfajokull volcanic eruption was huge — almost 100 times bigger than recent eruptions in Iceland — but now we also know it was surprisingly gas-rich.” The researchers said their study shows Icelandic volcanoes have the power to generate the fine ash capable of being transported long distances and cause disruption across Europe. With worrying evidence of increased volcanic activity, “Iceland’s position close to mainland Europe and the north Atlantic flight corridors means air travel could be affected again,” Lancaster researcher Hugh Tuffen said. -UPI [link to theextinctionprotocol.wordpress.com]

look at those EQs south of Iceland on the 2nd of May

NOWHERE near the mid atlantic ridge, but at the base of the slope that leads up to it

is the WHOLE PLUME rising, putting huge pressure on the entire region?

[link to en.vedur.is]

look again at Katla. notice one solitary little quake in Torfajakull? I think the huge pressure from below is putting strain on all the weak spots in the crust, ie the calderas, like askja, katla, Torfajakull etc, and now an EQ swarm at the base of the mountain rane that lead up to the ridge. I know it's only one quake, but this is happening all the time. I posted a while back about all the swarms this past few years that Jon has reported

add all this action to the heavy activity on the TFZ as well, and when you put it all together, I believe a slow motion total fucking disaster is heading straight for us.

when this headfuck gets going, it could finish off the northern hemisphere

maybe the WHOLE reason for the economic collapse as well?

Low-level eruption reported at Alaska’s Cleveland volcano

Posted on May 5, 2013by The Extinction Protocol

May 5, 2013 – ALASKA – Scientists say Alaska’s Cleveland Volcano is undergoing a continuous low-level eruption. The activity began with an explosion early Saturday morning, followed by two other explosions hours later. The Alaska Volcano Observatory and U.S. Geological Survey say satellites and cameras suggest low-level emissions of gas, steam and a small amount of ash. Satellites detected highly elevated surface temperatures at the summit. The Federal Aviation Administration said there are no flight restrictions as a result. The volcano in the Aleutian Islands is 940 miles southwest of Anchorage. Its most recent significant eruption began in February 2001 and featured three explosive events that sent ash clouds as high 39,000 feet above sea level. It also produced a rubbly lava flow and hot avalanche that reached the sea. –ABC News [link to theextinctionprotocol.wordpress.com]

...Boris added that the latest paroxysms have been different from most of those of the past, many of them have been much more explosive and also much more voluminous than those, for example, of the year 2000. […] “There is quite some concern about how things will go on, Etna is not showing the least sign of changing her behaviour in the foreseeable future …”

I answered Boris that “as long as the volcano behaves this way, it is a good thing for the people who live in Santa Venerina, Zafferana , Nicolosi and so on. The volcano is dirty and forces people to sweep away the ash and clean their houses but it would be much worse if an eruption occurred on the lower slopes of the volcano! The current situation confirms what I concluded from my observations in the late 1990s. I was then convinced there was a shallow magma chamber beneath the SE part of the summit area. What I fear most today is that the current activity weakens the SE flank of the volcano and reactivates the fracture that crosses the SP 92 road. If it did, the situation would be quite different. » Let’s cross our fingers that the paroxysms or the eruptions remain concentrated in the summit area. It would be a real problem if vents or fissures opened at lower altitudes. The lava flows would rapidly become a threat to populated areas. Mount Etna has an eruptive history which shows that such events should not be excluded. We just need to remember the 1928 eruption that destroyed Mascali or the 1991-1994 eruption that started on the upper wall of the Valle del Bove and caused days of fear and anxiety to the inhabitants of Zafferana Etnea…

I am starting to focus increasingly on the impact of this activity on the people living around Etna, which is getting more and more dramatic. Many towns and villages, especially in the southeastern, eastern and northeastern sectors of Etna have repeatedly received heavy tephra fallout, and driving through these areas you are gradually invaded by a sensation of sadness, it's all black and dusty, there are incredible amounts of scoriae and ash piled up along roads, the colors of spring are suppressed, and people are reluctant to put much effort into cleaning up because too many times they had just cleaned up and a few hours later, everything was covered with a fresh layer of black pyroclastics.

...This photo renders an idea of the problem - the black mounds in the foreground are heaps of tephra that were dumped on a little square at the northern margin of Zafferana Etnea after the repeated tephra falls of February-April 2013; this little square was originally part of a public park. There are scenes like this everywhere in the tephra fall sectors on Etna's flanks. And then there are other scenes, like the endless rows of tephra-filled plastic bags piled up along roads, which no one has so far thought of removing (because nobody knows where to put that stuff and what to do with it); in the meantime they have been covered with new layers of tephra by more recent episodes of lava fountaining. Overall, people seem to have resigned, because more than once they have made the experience that as soon as they have cleaned up their roofs, their terraces, and the sidewalk in front of their homes, there will be a new lava fountain and a new shower of pieces of black volcanic rock.

Photo taken on the morning of 29 April 2013, looking south toward the center of Zafferana Etnea.

...Boris added that the latest paroxysms have been different from most of those of the past, many of them have been much more explosive and also much more voluminous than those, for example, of the year 2000.

Newest mountain on Earth revisited.Over the past few years, I have often posted series of comparison photos that document the amazing growth of the new Southeast Crater cone at the summit of Etna. This cone, which was not existing little more than two years ago, has grown into an immense pile of volcanic rock, a mountain, the newest mountain on this planet...

A 3-D snapshot of a rapidly changing place
Since the summer of 2010, the staff of the Mapping Laboratory of the INGV-Osservatorio Etneo, of which I am part, has repeatedly taken GPS surveys in the summit area of Etna to document the distribution of new eruptive products and morphological changes. The most significant change in recent years has been the growth of the New Southeast Crater cone since the spring of 2011. On 3 May 2013, we were back on the spot to take GPS readings aided by range-finding binoculars...
Note the deep scar in the side of the New Southeast Crater cone, just between my two colleagues taking the rangefinding binoculars and GPS readings. The scar formed early during the 27 April 2013 paroxysmal episode when a portion of the cone's flank collapsed; the rounded ridge in the right background is the deposit of this collapse...

Volcano Activity in Indonesia on Monday, 06 May, 2013 at 13:51 (01:51 PM) UTC.

Description
Increased seismic activity was detected at the volcano and VSI raised the alert level to 3 out of 4 ("Siaga", "warning") yesterday. Sudden phreatic explosions could occur with little warning at the volcano and present a significant hazard to visitors to the crater, which is a popular tourist site due to its varied, intense hydrothermal activity and colorful active fumaroles.

yeah, saw that the other day

what a load of crap. all the evidence pointed to this being fact, and they use ONE set of data to 'disprove' it?

it's obvious anyway. you put that much crap into the atmosphere, and the temps WILL lower by very significant amounts, as proved by the ice cores

what is the POINT of even trying to disprove this? Just to buy TPTB a few more days/weeks/months AFTER a huge eruption, to keep the sheep calm while they go into hiding?

Papandayan is a complex stratovolcano with four large summit craters, the youngest of which was breached to the NE by collapse during a brief eruption in 1772 and contains active fumarole fields. The broad 1.1-km-wide, flat-floored Alun-Alun crater truncates the summit of Papandayan, and Gunung Puntang to the north gives the volcano a twin-peaked appearance. Several episodes of collapse have given the volcano an irregular profile and produced debris avalanches that have impacted lowland areas beyond the volcano
