The mouth 2010 is located in the inner wall west and mouth 2012 on the outer wall, both in West Crater. These ports have remained strong degassing from opening, magmatic gas output at very high temperatures, recorded between 600-800 ° Celsius. The mouth twice in January 2012 issued a moderate amount of ash, 12 to January 18, 2012. Today May 21, 2013 the two mouths, 2010 and 2012, issued a still undetermined amount of ash, magmatic gases, and aerosols. So far reported significant ashfall Chopped sector, north of Volcano and San Jose populations as Ipis of Guadeloupe, Fazio, Zetillal and San Isidro de Coronado. The ash emission observed today was preceded by the occurrence of seismic signals (hybrid earthquakes) that indicate the onset of breakup fractures or duct opening. These hybrid seismic records began in largest number today at 4:52 a.m. May 21, 2013. This activity led to a continuous harmonic tremor, which was maintained with moderate amplitude until 6:00 am. A from 7:20 am turns to increase the harmonic tremor at 8:30 giving way to ash eruption (see Figure 2). |

Google translation Facing the Killer Volcano (continued) The docu-drama "Facing the Killer Volcano" was released just days before the 22th anniversary of the death of Maurice and Katia Krafft. I had the opportunity to see the film premiere in 2011 at the General Assembly of the Association European Volcanological who had been allowed to project this document at this time... The Japanese authorities have done nothing wrong, because many times, they gave the order to evacuate threatened by pyroclastic area. This is confirmed by Report No. 1540-08 relating to the eruption of Unzen as it was presented to the French National Assembly. Here is an excerpt from the testimony of Professor Kazuya Ohta, Director of Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Shimabara (SEVO) "On May 30, a pyroclastic flow than 2.8 km long stopped 200 m from dwellings Kamikoba. Although people have received advice from that time to evacuate the area, some came back to collect their belongings and their pets. Several journalists and scientists are also returned to this area to photograph and film the spectacular pyroclastic flows. Firefighters were stationed in a designated area to monitor the empty houses evacuees used by journalists. These journalists were stationed at 4 km away, in front of the casting. I warned by radio, police and the Headquarters for Measures Against Disasters of Shimabara. But the people who were on the "Recommended Zone" did not take my warnings seriously... Despite all the admiration we may have to Katia and Maurice Krafft, it is clear that they are dead is that they have made a mistake. In addition, it is reasonable to think that if they had emptied places, other people around them would have followed. To conclude, I think if we had given Maurice choice of his death, this is probably the option he would have chosen. He had seen so many eruptions as future were "rab" as he liked to say. "If I die tomorrow, I do not care." This is what he also says in this short video filmed at the foot of Unzen, shortly before his death: |

A lot of others worldwide ! Possible volcanic erouption soon? At 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, the Turrialba Volcano, located east of the province of Cartago, began to spew gas and ash from two crater openings, the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (Ovsicori) reported. By 8:30 a.m. a significant amount of volcanic material was released from the two openings of volcano, "which may indicate that these materials come from deep areas,” Ovsicori said. "It is uncertain what will happen. Volcanologists are heading to the site to evaluate the activity," the statement said. Experts said Tuesday's activity is “normal for an active volcano such as Turrialba,” but they recommended all nearby communities remain vigilant in coming hours. The released material fell into grasslands and communities in the canton of Turrialba and reached some three kilometers west of the crater. The trail of gases and ash can be seen from various locations in the provinces of Cartago, San Jose, Heredia and Limon. Public access to the volcano area was closed last year due to the activity. The Turrialba Volcano also emitted material in 2007, 2010 and 2012. The last eruptions of the volcano were in 1884. Source: RSOE |

No samples were obtained, so volcanic activity could not be confirmed. ... The events of May 22nd were most likely located along a submarine ridge extending northwest from Kaena Point, Oahu. However, in recent years, University of Hawaii and U.S. Geological Survey scientists have explored this region in detail and found no evidence of recent eruptions on the ocean floor. It was thought the fragments might have originated from a 1952 eruption in the San Benedicto Islands off the west coast of Mexico, but the Oahu samples were different. The 1952 San Benedicto pumice was described as “greenish brown” and had no crystals, while the 1956 samples had crystals of olivine and labradorite — minerals common in Hawaiian eruptions. |

The output pressure of the gases were considered intermediate, based on the intensity of the forms such as "cauliflower" present in the flow. Revealed no crater lake, also not detected the presence of a magmatic body surface. The camera measures temperature at the bottom of the crater, showed two sectors with temperatures near 200 ° C, associated with valve. Pen was observed facing the NNE and column height of approximately 1,000 meters. The massif has in his record eruptions eruptive history of low to moderate magnitude. One scenario is the occurrence of frequent phreatic or phreatomagmatic eruptions (generated by the interaction of magma and water). Under these conditions, the main danger is the fall of pyroclastic material. In similar but larger eruptions magnitude could generate pyroclastic surges and lahars. The proximal hazard area (within 15 km) likely to be affected by lava and / or lahars not include populated areas. In larger eruptions but lower probability of occurrence, possible pyroclastic flows could extend its effects further afield (within 25 km). The area likely to be affected by ashfall thicknesses greater than 1 cm is located primarily east of the volcano. |

[link to chronicle.com] Geologists Chip Away at Mystery of Climate’s Influence on Volcanoes May 24, 2013, 12:19 pm ...Does the rock hold evidence that climate changes have, over time, caused a surge of volcanic eruptions? “Climate causes volcanoes to erupt. What? It kind of blows your mind,” he said in his Scottish brogue. “It’s fascinating to think that the atmosphere can change what’s happening in the earth.” Fascinating, and not new. Geologists have speculated for decades that past periods of warming, through the melting of glaciers, might have spurred a newly eruptive era. This is a simplification, but it can be understood as a matter of pressure relief: Taking that icy load off the land may make it easier for magma to surge out. In some situations, it might even cause even more melting. “If you remove a large ice sheet, then the amount of work required to crack that rock suddenly becomes a lot less,” said Ferguson. “Maybe it’s already got the energy to do it.” Such evidence does exist in one spot: Iceland. There’s a solid chemical and stratigraphic record showing that the island experienced a volcanic surge after its ice sheet retreated. But Iceland is a geological freak, its volcanism driven by a hot spot and the rifting of tectonic plates. (It even has a word for the flash floods caused by ice-covered eruptions—jokulhlaup.) Ninety percent of the world’s volcanoes do not resemble those of Iceland; they are instead found at subduction zones, where one plate slides under another. “If there is a good link, that’s where we need to find it,” Ferguson said... It’s too early to say if Ferguson will succeed. He has rocks and will scan them, sorting their ages by measuring potassium’s radioactive decay into argon. “The best case would be a proof of concept that there’s a good link between glacially driven decompression and volcanic eruption,” he said. “That would be the best-case scenario.” ...Then there’s the question that naturally follows this work: Human beings are causing global warming right now. The glaciers are sulking back from the valleys. Does that mean human-caused warming will result in a noticeable surge in volcanic eruptions?... |

"This evacuation is obligatory; it's not voluntary," Mr Chadwick said. According to Chile's Emergency Office, the evacuation could last about 48 hours, but could be delayed because of heavy rains. The volcano is located hundreds of kilometres from the country's capital Santiago in south-central Chile's Bio Bio region. Argentine officials have issued a yellow alert, but said evacuations were not necessary. However, school classes in Caviahue-Copahue, home to some 900 people, were suspended and access to the volcano is closed within a 4km (2.5 mile) radius on the Argentine side. Nearby towns, including Villa de Caviahue, are open as usual. Officials in Argentina said they flew over the area at the weekend and are monitoring the volcano with a network of web cameras. A red alert was last issued for the Copahue volcano in December, when a mile-high cloud of ash was seen billowing out of the crater. The last major eruption occurred in 1991. Some 20 years later, in 2001, it became highly active with blasts and gases. In mid-2011, ash from a volcano in Chile's Puyehue-Cordon Caulle chain that erupted after decades lying dormant forced the sporadic cancellation of hundreds of flights, especially in neighbouring Argentina and Uruguay. Updated: Tuesday, 28 May, 2013 at 07:21 UTC Description Chilean and Argentine officials issued a red alert Monday for the increasingly active Copahue volcano bordering the two countries and ordered the evacuation of about 3,000 people. Chilean Interior and Security Minister Andres Chadwick said the increased activity could lead to an eruption and officials would soon begin evacuating 2,240 people, or 460 families, within a 15.5-mile radius. "This evacuation is obligatory; it's not voluntary," Chadwick told reporters. Chile's Emergency Office said the evacuation could last about 48 hours, but could be delayed because of heavy rains. The nearly 10,000-foot sits in the Andes cordillera, overlapping Chile's Bio Bio region and Argentina's Neuquen province. Argentine officials raised their alert level to red Monday afternoon due to higher seismic activity and ordered the evacuation of about 600 people from the town of Caviahue to the neighboring city of Loncopue. "The volcano is not erupting yet, but as a preventive measure we've decided to evacuate the population," the Neuquen Crisis Committee said. "There are no ashes in Caviahue. The vapor plume has descended, but in the last days, seismic activity has increased. That's the reason behind the change of alert in Argentina and Chile." Copahue registered high seismic activity in December when its ash cloud billowed almost a mile high. The volcano had a major eruption in 1992, according to the Chilean Mining Ministry's Sernageomin geology unit. It became highly active with blasts and gases in 2002, in its strongest activity in more than 20 years. [link to hisz.rsoe.hu] |

I hope this time the winds take the ashes to the sea. Last time there were lots of cattle deaths, it was so sad. And lots of people affected by the ultra-fine and very abrassive dust, which is all but good for one's health. We even had to clean cars' windshields in the morning, because they had volcanic ashes... in Buenos Aires (some 1200 km.)!!!
