The folks you´re reffering to are found and followed in the Bible as the Serpent´s seed, and the descendents of those who mated with angels.

They called themselves Pharisee´s & Saddusies back then.......the term "illuminati" or ´enlightened ones´ wasn´t coined until some time around the 17th century or prior.

And Yes, in the earlier days; they called themselves the "serpent people".......thus the reference to the ´serpent´ in the biblical garden of Eden.
