In fact love as a type of energy doesn't limit itself to human relationships. The universe came to be by a greater form of love. We as humans evolved because there's literally "love in the air"  I'm sure what I felt for her was love and I agree with your definition. Maybe you did friend, but clearly the feeling wasn't reciprocated.
