Re: Top Kill: Reflections of the Deepwater Horizon
Another recollection that somehow fits for me here, the Oarfish. During this crisis, I remember watching all the hoses and tubes and man made objects under the deep sea and in a wondrous moment saw a glimmer of an Oarfish who was just hanging back looking like a trench pipe. I was in awe of the creature and truly wondered if anyone else saw it too. The irony of the that fish juxtaposed with the inventions of man in its own environment still has me captivated.

One of these days, maybe, I will be able to post pictures and such, but the Oarfish been linked to sea serpent myths.

"Recalling the event Professor Benfield explained how at first, they thought the fish was simply a drilling pipe called a riser being lowered into the water.
"We saw this bright vertical shiny thing, I said 'are they lowering more riser?' as it looked like they were lowering a huge pipe."
"We zoomed in a little bit and we said 'that's not a riser that's a fish!'"

Editing to add this link that came my way, for whatever reason, also that Oarfish have no teeth.

Became a tension breaker release to those of us that were glued. One clever soul started calling it, “The eel in the Top Hat”. So when we were watching explosions going on down there with the force to spin around the ROV’s someone would come in and say, “Did you see the eel in the Top Hat.”

Re: Top Kill: Reflections of the Deepwater Horizon
Beyond Petroleum Indeed
May, 2010

I have been blogging a live chat of the “live” cam (sometimes it is looping) of the underwater oil volcano in the Gulf of Mexico since Saturday night. It was actually pretty cool to connect in avatar land during this human and environmental beyond tragedy. Kinda like watching the towers go down over and over and over again while watching the MSMBS in 2001. Often we were left speechless while sharing that speechlessness with our loved ones.

Let’s just put it this way, while watching live cam and chatting, and seeing just what has been going on down there, massive explosion after explosion, that the MSMBS is not showing us, well, there were many moments of, “Did you see all those seeps of gas coming straight out of the sea floor!”,”OMG”, “WTF”. Those chatting moments were often followed by those precious moments of collective speechless fingers. Then, of course, to break the silence, that clever soul would come in to say, “Did you see that eel in the top hat?”

Anyway. I was chatting and watching until I got banned today. Not quite sure why I got banned, but , oh well, I did. Maybe I was imparting too much research, too many links, or too many moments of “You are a BP Shill”. Or maybe some could have been, “You are an Obama or Palin or Cheney shill”. Or maybe just “Shill, Baby, Shill.”

My links were good: Links to info that BP has been highly involved in drilling for Methane Hydrates for a few years now. Involved to the point that they drilled an experimental well in the Arctic for methane in collaboration with our Government in the last couple years, and that they possibly could have been doing “fracking” in the ocean looking for a pocket of natural gas that just happened to include methane hydrates.

Hydraulic fracturing or fracking is very controversial on land much less offshore. They shoot highly toxic chemicals into the well piping so the can save money and not have to drill so far. (BP only drilled this well 18,000 feet below the ocean floor. Most wells out there are 25,000 or more.) Big oil and gas and Government, won’t release the chemicals they use in fracking, Halliburton’s formula, but it’s gotta be pretty bad. People can set their own water faucets on fire with a lighter. There’s a few utubes of it.

Anyway, I was imparting large sums of info and links on the site where I was live chatting for several days watching live cam in avatar land and then just got banned. Again, I really don’t know why. There were numerous people on the live chat that had their links and insights handy as well. We were kinda bonding in an Avatar “I see you” kind of way.

Just prior to getting banned I had mentioned “fracking” and Halliburton and then info about the toxins that the drilling “mud” is composed of that they are now shooting into the Gulf to have it leak out with all the other toxins that are already there. I got banned shortly after that:

"I guess the sheeple think the drilling mud is just plain old mud. It is a freaking toxins and now more toxins are being added into the Gulf b/c of the the “leaks” in the pipes. Those gushes will continue while they push the toxic mud b/c they are having to push it with more pressure than in normal drilling.

(Response) This “mud” is indeed highly toxic. Yet what else can you do?

(My Response) Hell, I don’t know. I’m not god. Just the goddess of years worth of bookmarks just waiting to post theim_a_gay_spammers while the sheeple are getting the opportunity to wake up and start asking,”Yet what else can you do?"

Of course, I didn’t type “theim_a_gay_spammers” part. I think it was, “just waiting to post them on forums while the sheeple are getting the opportunity to wake up and start asking,”Yet what else can you do?” Now mind you, most people had already become accustomed to my snark, as well as others, in this thread of over 100,000 views and 154 pages since Saturday night.

Now I’m much more curious about fracking in the ocean, BP having participated with a Government study to do an experimental well for methane in the Arctic, and, well, just all of it. Oh, and also, our Congress and EPA have already been holding hearings on fracking and the toxic composition, and there is much research by corporations and our Government about Methane Hydrates being the new energy wave of the future.

Me really is starting to think that indeed, yes, Beyond Petroleum is not lying about their name change. They just might have envisioned Methane Hydrates to be beyond petroleum, and from what we have witnessed 5000 feet deep in the Gulf on live cam, well, I would agree. There is a shit load of Methane explosions down there. And we just thought “beyond petroleum” meant solar or wind or shit like that.

Sorry. I am too tired to link links to explain what I just said, but you know I’m good for them. I will depart with one decent clip [link below] of some decent info that the MSMBS has shared though. It doesn’t mention much of what I said above, but it is a little more truth than what the sheeple are being fed.

Things to reflect back on but a reflection that has entered my mind here and there is, which mod banned me? Has the super powers of changing words within a reply field? Not trying to stir any muck here as I was let back in after a scathing email of "what the f up”? I figure a mod got canned that day which is awesome. But there do seem to be some greater concerns. Those were awfully strong replacement words in that post. You know. The kind of words that people might use to try to discredit other people. In the biggest of pictures. It’s all good. I must have hit a nerve in some drilling shilling some where along the way.

Are We Playing with Fire?
Posted by: la-t-da on: June 9, 2011

In: BP Oil Disaster | Energy | Environment | Methane Hydrates | Uncategorized Comment!

When it comes to “fire-ice”, aka methane hydrates or methane clathrate, we literally are. We have been funding and researching the possibility of utilizing methane hydrates as an energy resource for over a decade. The DOE actually has a part of their website dedicated specifically to “Fire in the Ice” and the latest news in the exploratory drilling and expeditions. They have pretty much already deduced where the best deposits are around the world. Those are easily accessed on the site as well. It really is hard to say that our government has not been and is not transparent in this regard.

Are liberals, environmentalists, and Gulf Coast working class conservatives alike, all still fuming over the gulf, waiting for the mainstream media to pick up the story first? Do they watch C-Span? Watch committee and subcommittee hearings on issues they are concerned about? Check in occasionally on what folks are saying on the Senate Floor? Read the national commission BP final report?

Though the report offers both industry and government a scathing slap on the wrist, “The root causes are systemic and, absent significant reform in both industry practices and government policies, might well recur,” the words Methane Hydrates are never mentioned.

In mid may Obama opened up leases for exploratory drilling for the deepwater Gulf, Arctic Ocean and permafrost regions, and off the Atlantic coast. Understand that he is not talking about drilling for oil in the Arctic permafrost and off the Atlantic coast. And, when they say natural gas, know they are talking about extracting gas from the methane hydrate deposits in those two areas. Ken Salazar gave it away by professing a bit too much as to why they were going to the Atlantic.

“The fact of the matter is we know very little about the Atlantic because the information we have is 30 years old,” Salazar told reporters today. “One of the things we owe to the American people is to make our decisions based on good information. Right now there is very little information on the Atlantic.” Guess Ken failed to check up on the DOE website.

Blake Ridge is a bathymetric high located on the Atlantic continental rise approximately 400 km east from Charleston, South Carolina. The sedimentary feature is situated in water depths between 2,000 to 4,800 meters and is approximately 500 km in length. Over the past 30 years, the Blake Ridge has become perhaps the best-studied occurrence of methane hydrate in the United States.

They lie, and I say, let’s confront the Mother Nature raping corporatist hubristic pigs sooner than later. Don’t mean to fear-monger, but I intend to get my tax payer’s moneys worth from all our government agencies we have been funding for over a decade to tell us what lurks beneath the ocean floor:

"I began exploring the depths off the East Coast more than 30 years ago, and reported the first findings of these slump scars. Evidence suggests that these scarring events have happened in the past; some of the scars look fairly recent. Since we now know that some tsunamis can be caused by these slumping events, it makes sense to learn more about the activity of the sea floor just off our coasts. Currently, scientists do not have enough information to envision the possibility of a major tsunami engulfing the Atlantic City Boardwalk, but we do know that the East Coast is not as static as we once thought."

We have to figure out how to force the public debate on drilling for methane hydrates. If not the debate will be framed for us. Energy from Methane Hydrates: Better to Burn Out than Fade Away.

"Maybe Neil Young’s lyric “It’s better to burn out than fade away” captures the odd paradox of methane hydrates best. Better to burn some of their methane in the short run, and suffer a CO2-driven aggravation of greenhouse problems en route to a more sustainable energy solution, than to continue with the energy status quo and wait for melting hydrates to worsen the climate problem for us."

Though the piece does offer some good research, I really don’t think Obama’s teleprompter could have framed the wave of framing that is going to come our way when it comes to us getting closer to Methane Hydrate production. And screw anyone that uses Neil Young to sell such a wave of crap (and especially use that particular line). Hey, I’m all in for a JFK, “We choose to go to the moon” moment of innovation, but at this point, I’m still convinced we are vampires sucking blood from the earth.
