Ours shows it as an explosion, and it shows a larger pattern than the local MO seismo's depict. I'll read the thread now. [link to folkworm.ceri.memphis.edu] This is from Malden, MO and shows fracking patterns, missing data, and the 4.0 event as an explosion. [link to folkworm.ceri.memphis.edu] I tried to put the pics in here on one page for folks to compare, but won't work for me. peace Favorite quote or Haiku, Nikos Kazantzakis " I said to the Almond tree, "Sister, speak to me of God..." Ozark User ID: 9696387 United States 02/21/2012 11:09 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Im in southeast missouri, Farmington area to be exact. Furniture was walked across the floor in the cape area in some homes, I didnt feel it in my condo but it was built recently and i would expect that, My mother who lives in an old Farm house closer to Ste, Genevieve said she woke up at 3 am and couldnt go back to sleep, I did the same by the way, which is very odd for me, I sleep like a stone at night, and then her house went to popping real loud about the time of the quake. It was built around 1900. It felt like it swayed and then that was it. The odd part to me is how we both woke up about an hour ahead of time, but didnt know why. We just knew something was up, a Tense feeling. This could very well be a foreshock to the big one. I feel bad for those in St. Louis. Thankfully me and most of my immediate family are HAM radio operators so we will be able to communicate simplex when all the cell phone towers go down. Quoting: justintime What woke you up and what you were feeling is the underground fracking going on. Seems like there was missing data which I would interpret as them hiding the facts. Pipes underground drilling using high pressures cause underground explosions. Here's the link to the local New Madrid seismographs, find the ones nearest you and see what they look like! That would put very real additional pressure on the already very dangerous fracking pipes and equipment within the pipes. The ground in that area will carry a 4 wave a long ways. I'm wondering where it was felt ( radius in miles) I'm in Ohio. I went to bed around 3:45am and I had just started to drift off to sleep when I thought someone was knocking at my door. I even got up to check. Just saw that the earthquake hit at that same exact time. I think, because it was relatively shallow, that the P-wave actually hit us here.... or it may have been larger than they're saying !! Most people (this far away from the epicenter) would have slept right through it. What part of Ohio? |

Quoting: Redpaw360 We are well within the 200 year anniversary still, with a few more weeks to go. Be safe. Actually the antipode is nowhere near Madagascar. It's smack dab in the middle of the Indian Ocean. And is actually closer to the French Southern and Antarctic Lands than it is to Madagascar. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 11213609 United States 02/21/2012 12:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok now I am confused.Because of the makeup of the land here compared to California arent we suppose to feel them much stronger than California would. If thats so shouldnt a 4.0 be felt quiet a ways and shouldnt it do at least a bit of dammage. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 11195327 a 4.0 is still just a 4.0. the thing about the different soils of there, and east coast vs west coast is not entirely accurate. CA is not made up of all one type of soil or rock. neither is missouri or east coast. it varies. and also the "you feel an earthquake more when the ground/rock is more solid vs in CA where the soil is soft" thing has spread around on here because one ding dong said that a few months back and everyone started repeating it. that is inaccurate information. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 10532482 United States 02/21/2012 12:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee reported being awakened by the quake that happened at 3:58 a.m. (0858 GMT) A few residents of North Carolina, Alabama, Indiana and Georgia also felt it. I didn't feel it here, but we are in extreme Northwest Indiana by the Illinois line. I couldn't sleep last night, however. I was gettting up every couple of hours. The last time I woke up, before finally staying up for the day, was around 3:38am central time. My maternal side of my family is from Saint Louis. FYI, they were one of the first settlers there in what is now Saint Louis. My great-great aunt owned a race track in Saint Louis which was demolished in the 1960's. My grandfather used to own the ground where Pruitt-Igoe used to be. He sold it all to the Public Housing Authority. In all, Pruitt-Igoe consisted of 33 11 story apartment buildings. It was completed in 1955 at the cost of 36 Million dollars (350 Million in todays dollars) with the final cost ballooning to 57 Million Dollars due to repairs made as a result of vandalism. Total cost (500 Million Dollars in todays dollars). As mentioned before, Pruitt-Igoe opened in 1955 and the PHA started to kick people in 1968, and finally in 1971, Pruitt-Igoe was demolished. In short, the Negroes totally destroyed 33 buildings in 15 years. The area where Pruitt-Igoe used to stand is known as a part of North St. Louis. North St. Louis is so damned dangerous, the cops are scared to death of it, and flat out refuse to patrol it. Hey, St. Louisans...Am I right, or wrong about this? |
