It's a manufacturer website, dumbass! It's unfortunate that you've never traveled abroad. This type of gas mileage is fairly close to average. Considering the price of petrol is substantially higher than the states. Ive driven this sub-compact and it's fairly accurate. The car belongs to my cousin and she seemed amazed that we didn't have a similar car here considering our much longer commute.

Re: Chevy Volt=Epic Fail
Cost to operate a Chevy Volt

Eric Bolling (Fox Business Channel's Follow the Money) test drove the
Chevy Volt at the invitation of General Motors.
For four days in a row, the fully charged battery lasted only 25 miles
before the Volt switched to the reserve gasoline engine.
Eric calculated the car got 30 mpg including the 25 miles it ran on
the battery. So, the range including the 9 gallon gas tank and the 16
kwh batery is approximately 270 miles. It will take you 4 1/2 hours to
drive 270 miles at 60 mph. Then add 10 hours to charge the battery and
you have a total trip time of 14.5 hours. In a typical road trip your
average speed (including charging time) would be 20 mph.

According to General Motors, the Volt battery holds 16 kwh of
electricity. It takes a full 10 hours to charge a drained battery.
The cost for the electricity to charge the Volt is never mentioned so
I looked up what I pay for electricity.

I pay approximately (it varies with amount used and the seasons) $1.16 per
kwh.

16 kwh x $1.16 per kwh = $18.56 to charge the battery.
$18.56 per charge divided by 25 miles = $0.74 per mile to operate the
Volt using the battery.
Compare this to a similar size car with a gasoline engine only that gets 32
mpg.
$3.19 per gallon divided by 32 mpg = $0.10 per mile.
The gasoline powered car cost about $15,000 while the Volt costs $46,000.
So the Government wants us to pay 3 times as much for a car that costs
more than 7 times as much to run and takes 3 times as long to drive
across country

[link to video.foxnews.com]
 Quoting: train

ROFL! The volt is a fail, but you do NOT pay $1.16 per kwh. An absurdly high residential peak rate would be 16 CENTS per kwh.

All your maffs are belong to fail.

When people say this I just tell them I guess its cheaper and cleaner to power your house with a gas generator. It will take 20+ years to get 50% usage. Oil is going to be around for centuries but we are at the start of the change. Natural gas/propane will be powering our cars in the near term-what do you think all the fracking is for?

Very likely true by one method or another.
Natural gas / propane and coal fired power plants....or even converting the gases to HYDROGEN which is then used in the car directly with fuel cells or burned by and internal combustion engine.

a 1991 geo metro gets 50+ mpg, no fancy hybrid bullshit, 20 year+ old technology.

its all bullshit.
 Quoting: theCOOCH

A 1991 Geo Metro weighs 1700 lbs and were not very safe in accidents.

Also the catalytic converter needs raw hydrocarbons to burn hydrocarbons. Modern low emission cars need to dump hydrocarbons into the exhaust to keep the catalytic converter hot.

Basically you need gas to run the engine and gas to keep the converter hot.... this is why modern cars don't get as good mileage as older cars.

Sort of ironic... the green freaks want clean cars... but to make exhaust clean you need to burn more fuel.

The metro was "clean" back in '91 but today's standards are more strict.

Also folks are concerned about safety and demand 10 air bags and reinforced cabins. Modern little cars are heavy for their size.

In my opinion electric cars suck and will always suck. Buy a geo metro and save $$.

The cars that have caught fire did so after severe side impacts the NHTSA conducted DAYS after the crash and the determined there is no safety hazard. GM did a voluntary recall to quell any public doubt. Lots of cars catch fire all by themselves all the time. The car companies always go after to top company. Right now its GM, a year ago it was Toyota. Anyone remember something about a Toyota problem a year ago?

Notice how they try it out on a long range road trip.

What kind of ~DUMBASS~ buys an electric car for long range driving? They are for short around town errands. Like what if you live 4 flat, stop sign studded miles from your job?

The gas powered car will hardly be up to full opperating temperature by then. You might never get out of second gear. And out of the 15 minutes of "driving" time 10 minutes would be idling at stop lights. Your gas car would get about 10 mpg under those conditions while the electric one would have used about 25 cents worth of house current.

Basically OP, STFU.
