The sad part is had you not pointed that out people would probably agree that sand isn't reflective at least in the average concept of a "movie laser" Sand is reflective, or else we wouldn't see the moon at all. However you can't reflect a laser point off it and back, that requires something man made. Sure sand reflects light but who gives a shit because that's not the same thing as reflecting a laser and preserving its integrity.
