SOMEONE HIT ME FROM BEHIND.. WHAT TO DO?

Yesterday i was stopped when another car ahead of me hit me from behind going about 40mph or 45mph. when he hit me another car hit his jeep in the back end also. the guy admitted to the police his little girl was sick with the flu and he didnt pay attention and hit me. I called my insurance company and she said they would start the process but id have to wait until they got the money and me pay for repair work and when they got the money from his insurance company they would pay me. or, she said i could go after his insurance company since it looks not to be my fault.

now do i go get repair estimates? then after i get the police report in 5 days do i then contact his insurance company with the estimates and tell them one of thier customer with insurance hit me from behind and id like to get my vbehicle repaired immediately..

I never been in an accident before and im 43 years old...

I had a friend that was rear ended, the insurance co. cut him a check for $500 to fix his bumper. He pocketed the money an said f-it. Then a month later rear ended again, used that 500 to fix the bumper and sell then sold the car.

Personally i have been rear ended 3 times, the hitch on my truck has saved me every time.

If you have collision on your own insurance, your insurance company should take care of all this for you. They should fill the complaint and let you start getting the repair work.

But if you do not have collision, then maybe you have to do it for yourself? I don't know. I carry full coverage and have never had to do any of this for myself.

i have geico insurance. the way she talked on the phone she wrote everything down and gave me a claim number. she said i could have the car fixed out of my own pocket and then geico would get the money back from his insurance but she said there was no gaurantee when that would happen. she said since you we,re the lead car it's not ur fault and you can go after his insurance company yourself if i wanted to..... Im thinking of going after his insurance company myself and get a rental vehicle on his insurance also.

Go to your Doctor. This will be paid through no fault or the insurance co, Insist on having an MRI. I had something similar happen to me. 20 years later and 30 thousand dollars out of my own pocket, I needed 2 discs replaced in my neck. Never had any pain except for maybe a little stiffness after I was rear ended. At that speed and your age, I just can't see how you walked away from it without injury. I get the feeling that you are a decent person and don't want to add any burdens on to the other party,. But this could devastate you later. It was definitely a life changer for me.

yes i am a decent person and only want my car fixed. if i really was a con i would have an an ambulance there because whiplash is soft tissue damage that cannot be easily seen.... I really dont ask for nothing but my car fixed.

also the other poster is correct i pay them every month and it seems they should fix my car and geico go after thier money cause i got fullcoverage...

get accident report from the police

call the other guys insurance, quickly, report the accident, tell them you want to make a claim,
don't wait, the insurance gives there client 10 days to file before they proccess claim

they will want a fax of the report, and you may have to make a recorded statement

call your insurance, do the same thing...

stay in touch with the other guys insurance, if nothing happens in a week, call your insurance and tell them the other company is stalling...a lot of them do that

your insurance should fix damage and file against the other company

it took me 2 months to get anything fixed because the other guys insurance stalled and extended, stalled and extended

I had my car towed to the body shop within an hour because I told my ins co to treat it like an uninsured claim...yeah I had the other guys info, but what's to guarantee he paid his premiums?
