I Met the Rifleman Once, I Miss That America
It's pretty sad when the only decent shows on television are older shows from the sixties. When I was nine years old and living at NAS Lemoore in California, Chuck Conners and one of the actors from Garrison's Gorillas and Santa Claus flew in by Navy Helicopter and landed right next to the base theater which at the time was 25 cents admission. Yes, it was Christmas (My god he just used the C word). When Chuck got up on stage he was larger than life and commenced to shoot his cool ass rifle slightly upwards and away from us to the right so the ejector was pointing toward the packed theater and as the casings flew into the first rows it was an instant kiddie dog pile. Every kid wanted a spent casing from the Rifleman's rifle. Nowadays they would probably refer to us as an unruly crowd of young white gun lovers. After the show as we exited, Chuck and gang shook each kids hand as they handed us the red net Christmas (There I go again) sock filled with California oranges and other treats. The rifleman as campy as it may seem today depicted moral situations of good against evil in a land where there could be much lawlessness. It defended against racism in a predominantly white culture but then that's truly closer to the way it was in small westerly towns where the black man had not migrated to in numbers as of yet. The bad guy always met his up and comings either through epiphany or at the end of Lucas's rifle. Today's rerun I caught and it brought this all to mind. A China-man and his young son come to town and are ridiculed by a few local turd bags. And as usual Lucas and Mark befriend them and end up sticking up for them when no one else is. It turns out the China-man can take care of himself as he whips some martial arts and a few karate chops on the dork and Lucas doesn't even need to use his rifle.
Lucas wasn't quick to use his gun but did when it was absolutely necessary. What happened to us?

Is shit like the Walking Dead and Vampires and Suc-a-butts all that entertains us now and mindless supposed comedy like 2 1/2 douche bags? Shows like the Rifleman depicted America and what we once stood for. Decency with firm resolve against tyranny. Campy or not I'd rather live in such a world surrounded by an army of Ted Nugents and the likes of the Rifleman. There were some assholes like Judge Roy Bean and some terrible mistakes like Wounded Knee but as long as we recognize them we can be better than ever. Those of us like minded will need to know each other and stick together when the SHTF. . If you're black don't vote for that SOB just because he's black or find yourself in a bigger hurt than you've ever seen in your life in the next four years. Stay fresh and keep your powder dry and turn off the TV while you're at it. If you do turn it on maybe TV Land is one of your only options.

Hope to see you all on the other side or at the boarder, which ever comes first.

>What happened to us?

Really Started before but the murder of John Kennedy, but anyway especially Nixon and all the Asshole presidents after him played their parts in dismantling the USA.

I think Nixon was where the real evisceration started.

Ford and Carter were disasters but Ford was on the Warren commission I guess he gets a pass.

Reagan put on a good show.

Then Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama will finish it off.
The entire finacial world wide debacle would not have happened if the Glass Stegal act had not been repealed and that happened under the Clinton watch. John McCain voted for it.

Kennedy was the last President with any real Balls.

Oh yeah Chuck Conners in the rifleman - Superb.

My childhood Western hero was Clint walker.
Paladin IE Richard Boone was a good one too.

There is also a rumor he made a gay porn movie.

I guess anything is possible, but the guy was married 3
times and had 4 kids, so at least he was not a total homo
if at all.

Same here, glued to the set then. We need that kind of programming again but it just doesn't suit many.

Funny you mention that. I caught the reruns today, and today was the first time I ever watched this show as it did not play in Canada in the 70's or 80's in reruns. You are absolutely right.Great show, entertaining as well. I watched all of them.

Sometimes I wonder if it is just a consequence of getting older, but in my opinion modern music can't hold a candle to the 60's, 70's or 80's, likewise for movies and TV.In my world, the "Golden Age," for pop culture is long gone.

I'll give you one example ( Of which there are many). I loved the Batman TV show when I was a kid. I never cared for the first movie, and every subsequent version got darker and stupider. Also WTF happened to Robin? Anyhow, that's all for my whining this evening.

Not whining at all. I actually liked the most recent Batman movies but enjoyed the original shows too. Robin comes in later I suppose. Did you catch the recent animated version. It shows how he found Robin.

In the 60s and 70s TV and Rock and Roll were both still pretty new.

Now everything has been done to death over and over and over again.

One of my favorite cult classic movies was Vanishing Point lately remade by a great actor, but in a terrible remake.

Best part of the original was that 20YO Blonde riding her Honda around in the desert Nude. I have that clip on auto-repeat right now.

Doesn't matter.

Stallone did some soft core stuff.

I would imagine a lot more actors did than you realize.

Re: I Met the Rifleman Once, I Miss That America
Children aren't bred anymore. They're basically fed like animals, with TV for babysitting, and a government sponsored, liberalized school system for indoctrination. They aren't taught what integrity is, much less the value of it. They aren't taught self-control and self-denial, which results in weak-willed individuals. A weak-willed individual lacks the ability to properly love even their own self, always at the mercy of their own desires.

The more guilt-ridden parents over-schedule the kids in a dozen activities so that they grow up being efficient workers, but completely aimless individuals.

No, until we the people understand what took us out of the dark-ages and made us individuals of standards, we're completely doomed. We've regressed as a people and our progenitors would be completely disgusted with how base we've all become.
