DRUDGE REPORT: PETA kills more than 95 percent of pets in its care...
Documents published online this month show that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, an organization known for its uncompromising animal-rights positions, killed more than 95 percent of the pets in its care in 2011.

The documents, obtained from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, were published online by the Center for Consumer Freedom, a non-profit organization that runs online campaigns targeting groups that antagonize food producers.

Fifteen years’ worth of similar records show that since 1998 PETA has killed more than 27,000 animals at its headquarters in Norfolk, VA.

In a February 16 statement, the Center said PETA killed 1,911 cats and dogs last year, finding homes for only 24 pets.

I have to disagree with this article??? I live in Virginia, and just yesturday PETA were kind enough to come to my town and let me get my dog fixes and he got all his shots for free!! They also asked anyone who wanted to sign their petition of Unlawful killings of animals in the shelters in Virginia? PETA is fighting for the lives of the animals, not death?? I witnessed this first hand.

Which part of they didn't deny it didn't you read in the full article? Or did you just read the blurb and make up your own mind?

The data comes from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. They aren't just making up these numbers. If they did they'd be facing a huge lawsuit.

Let's face it, PETA's toast. They are going buh-bye as kitteh just said.

I really think some people love to keep their heads in the sand and defend the indefensible.

If you love animals like I do, you can't ignore this kind of crap and try to pretend it's not real. It is, it has happened and it's disgusting.

PETA needs to be euthanized for the hypocrites they are. $37 million and they can't afford to care for these animals? Fuck that and fuck their lying, hypocritical ways.

Some one please tell this to Jane Velez Mitchell. Now she is eating out of garbage cans, and by the way she is sober going on 16 years. She loves to tell you how smart she is, she knows more than police, judges, courts, lawyers, well I guess almost anyone. I just do not like her. She is rude to her guest, cuts them off because she wants to tell you everything.

Come on. THINK a little. You've been duped like many people who fell for the "we only protect animals" BS. It reminds me of the Komen breast cancer cure BS, which is all about getting woman irradiated by cancer-causing mammograms using GE devices (Komen invests in GE). It's a bunch of horseshit.

Not my statements. Read the article.

PETA didn't even deny the statistics from the state. Instead, they tried to JUSTIFY them. There's the proof right there. Their own words. If not true, they would have denied it instead of simply trying to justify it.

Let's face it. PETA is going by way of the dodo. They are, as of now, on the fast road to extinction (i.e. bankruptcy), as few will support an org that saves 24 cats/dogs out of 1,911 and yet claims to be for the ethical treatment of animals with all their lame theatrics to get attention.

By the way, "bearing false witness" means lying, and I am not lying about anything. I am sharing a news article that I feel to be sharing factual information.

It is important not to let organizations take people's money in the name of protecting animals and then use it to kill them. Taking a stand against such inhumane treatment of animals is called being morally upright. The animals can't defend themselves and many who brought them to PETA likely thought they'd try to find them a home. Instead, most were killed within 24 hours. That's just SICK!

Wow, disturbing quotes. I completely disagree with his viewpoint.

Our cats are SO HAPPY. Three were strays. They had a very hard, harsh and dangerous life before we took them on and cared for them. Now they all are well-fed, well-loved and extremely content. All three would likely have been candidates for PETA killing them if they were brought to them. Instead, they have wonderful lives and bring us a lot of joy at the same time.

PETA doesn't run a shelter program

State Inspector likens PETA's "Shelter" to a "Euthanasia Clinic"

[link to www.petakillsanimals.com]

Recent documents uncovered by PETAKillsAnimals.com indicate that the Commonwealth of Virginia was so shocked by the number of animals PETA kills each year that the state inspector attempted to revoking PETA's license to operate a shelter.

In 2010, a Virginia resident called PETA to ask if it operated an animal shelter. PETA said no. Apparently perplexed, she sent PETA's response to the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), the government agency responsible for overseeing shelters and animal welfare matters in the state. Responding to the complaint, Dr. Daniel Kovich, an investigator with the VDACS, conducted an inspection of PETA's animal shelter at its Virginia headquarters in July 2010. Dr. Kovich determined "the facility does not contain sufficient animal enclosures to routinely house the number of animals annually reported as taken into custody."

This is probably because most animals taken in by PETA aren't housed for very long. After reviewing two months worth of records, Kovich found that 245 of the 290 animals--84 percent--that PETA took into custody were killed within 24 hours. Only 17 were reported as adopted or in foster homes. Kovich noted that PETA's shelter did not meet PETA's own published guidelines for operating a humane animal shelter.
"If one understands that socialism is not a share-the-wealth programme, but is in reality a method to consolidate and control the wealth, then the seeming paradox of super-rich men promoting socialism becomes no paradox at all. Instead, it becomes logical, even the perfect tool of power-seeking megalomaniacs.

Communism or more accurately, socialism, is not a movement of the downtrodden masses, but of the economic elite."

There is video of PETA successfully soliciting pets from a shelter under the pretense of finding homes for the animals, only to take the pets to their van in the parking lot, killing them on the spot and dumping their bodies in dumpsters.

PETA is full of sickos.

Follow the money. Same in many non-profit orgs. Their executives are getting VERY well-paid in many cases. Thus, the incentive is for the money to keep flowing, not to actually find or provide solutions that would end the flow of cash into their coffers.

That sounds like the work of a few sick individuals, obviously demented, possibly psychopathic. That wasn't the work of the org itself. I can't imagine that.

I must have missed that memo, as I suspect did a lot of others such as those calling me a "liar" for posting the article.

[...]PETA collected almost $29 million in donations in 2004 alone, but few donors understand exactly where their money is going. During the past ten years, PETA has spent four times as much on criminals and their legal defense than it has on shelters, spay-neuter programs, and other efforts that actually help animals.

From both a moral and a legal standpoint, there are far too many objectionable things about PETA to list here in detail. But the following "top ten list" is a good start:
PETA is not an animal welfare organization.
PETA spends less than one percent of its multi-million dollar budget actually helping animals.
