Re: Magnitude 6.8 - SOUTHWESTERN SIBERIA, RUSSIA
we have a new large high latitude coronal hole that was formed from a solar tsunami a few days back
[link to mysolaralerts.blogspot.com]
because of the corilation i have been watching between large coronal holes and earthquakes on earth, i have been hitting refresh a lot on my quake sites
had a feeling something large was coming
and i would not be shocked at all to see way more quake activity in higher earth latitudes from now through the 29th
watch this quake activity close

Awesome, freaking good job, thanks for that! The question is, how much of the increase is actually a result of increased numbers of seismographs around the world? Although even factoring that in, there's clearly a massive ramping up starting around 1999. It's a shame though that it only goes up to 2006.

Re: Magnitude 6.8 - SOUTHWESTERN SIBERIA, RUSSIA
Earthquake in Russia [Asia] on Sunday, 26 February, 2012 at 08:12 (08:12 AM) UTC.
Description
A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Russia’s East Siberia on Sunday, with tremor shocks felt by residents of the Irkutsk Region and the Republic of Khakassia. Russia’s Emergencies Ministry has said the tremor epicenter was located some 100 km (62 miles) from the city of Kyzyl in the Siberian Tyva region near the border with Mongolia. The earthquake shocks were felt for four to five minutes from 15:19 to 15:24 p.m. local time (06:19 – 06:24 a.m. GMT). Residents of the upper stories of high-rise residential buildings said the tremor caused their things to fall from upper shelves. Windows and glass rattled and chandeliers swayed during the earthquake. The earthquake shocks were felt at the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric plant, Russia’s largest.bump

Re: Magnitude 6.8 - SOUTHWESTERN SIBERIA, RUSSIA
Update 08:58 UTC : well felt over 8 Russian regions, but no damage reported so far (like last time)

Update 08:56 UTC : A faulty transformer has occurred in Tuva – possibly as a result of the earthquake. Emergency services are also checking critical infrastructure in the epicentral region.

Update 08:40 UTC : We have just added a number of experience reports below

Update 08:19 UTC : No major damage has been reported. In Kyzyl, an MSK of 5.5 (around MMI 5-5.5) was recorded, with people coming out into the streets but very little damage occurring with a few objects falling from shelves.
This is good news, and no casualties or major damage has been reported from the epicenter via reports from central Tuva.

Update 07:38 UTC : The nearest populated places are: Karaus (9km), Kara Khem (13km). The closest civilian airport is Kyzyl (100km).

Update 07:30 UTC : Strength at the epicenter only MSK7. According to preliminary data, the earthquake in eastern Siberia, no casualties, no damage, told RIA Novosti by telephone a representative of the Siberian Regional Centre for Emergency Situations Ministry. MSK shaking scale is almost similar to MMI scale.

Update 07:29 UTC : Abakan has reported an intensity of MSK3-4. Abakan is around 300km away, Irkutsk around 350km….but they were getting long period effects, hence why tall buildings

Update 07:25 UTC : in Irkutsk, tremors were felt for about four or five minutes with 15.19 (10.19 GMT) to 15:24 local time. The inhabitants of the upper floors of tall buildings saw objects fall down from the top shelf. The houses also had some broken glasses, chandeliers swayed.

Update 07:25 UTC : WAPMERR, a damege and casualty theoretical engine has reported 0-10 deaths, 0-30 injuries, data merely based on historic earthquakes in the area.

Update 07:23 UTC : Saryg-Sep, a city with a population of 5,000 will be the hardest hit with a theoretically calculated impact of VIII MMI (based on the M 6.8 magnitude). MMI VIII is causing SEVERE shaking

Update 07:22 UTC : The earthquake shocks were felt at the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric plant, Russia’s largest.

Update 07:21 UTC : The earthquake shocks were felt for four to five minutes from 15:19 to 15:24 p.m. local time (06:19 – 06:24 a.m. GMT). Residents of the upper stories of high-rise residential buildings said the tremor caused their things to fall from upper shelves. Windows and glass rattled and chandeliers swayed during the earthquake.

Update 07:19 UTC : Some structures in Kyzyl were already weakened by the December 27 earthquake. Many houses and apartment buildings had cracks in the walls.

Update 07:14 UTC : Russian authorities have reported a magnitude of 6.6 (FAR BETTER than the initial 6.8 reported by USGS). The distance from the epicenter to Kyzyl, the capital of the area is (only) 69 km – that is bad news ! Some structures in Kyzyl were already weakened by the December 27 earthquake. Many houses and apartment buildings had cracks in the walls.

Update 07:14 UTC : Emergency tenting supplied after the December 27 earthquake may still be on location. After the December 27 earthquake many weeks of moderate to sometimes strong aftershocks were occurring in the area.

Update 07:10 UTC : considering the last Kyzyl earthquake caused only interruptions to supply. Mines were also closed for about 48 hours.

Update 07:10 UTC : Theoretically, a max. MMI value of VIII will be reached. Extremely and devastating in some areas, but probably not in Siberia as we learned out of the December 27 experience.

Update 07:09 UTC : We have currently one aftershock after the other. Magnitudes are in the M 5 range

Update 07:08 UTC : The earthquake has been felt all over Mongolia !

Update 07:03 UTC : It is currently winter in Siberia and temperatures are often -30 °C or even colder. People will be obliged to stay outside their houses for at least 48 hours out of fear for aftershocks

Update 07:01 UTC : The December 27, 2011 earthquake had luckily NO victims. If current epicenter and Magnitude are confirmed, Earthquake-Report.com does not expect fatalities

Update : Read also our December 27 2011 article when a similar earthquake occurred at almost the same location with almost the same Magnitude . Click here to read the in-depth report about this Kyzyl earthquake.

Update 06:57 UTC : extremely shallow and with the current preliminary magnitude, it means extremely dangerous for the people living above it

- In the early afternoon of February 26, a very strong extremely shallow earthquake occurred approx. 100 km from Kyzyl, Siberia, Russia.
