Why Do You Watch Award Shows?
I'm not trying to offend anyone, but I've never been interested in these award shows. Conspiracy theories about Illuminati rituals aside, what is the appeal exactly?

The way I see it, if a person likes a movie or an actor or whatever, then the subjective opinions of others are irrelevant.

Watch the films, not the award shows.

For those who do enjoy these show, more power to you, but please explain to me what the draw is (or usually is).

I don't watch the award show because I don't like them. I have been at others houses when they are watching and when I ask they say ohh I have to see who is winning or whatever.
Then they get upset when their favorite doesn't get it.

See, I don't want to start name calling and putting people down to feel better. That's why I'm asking what their reasons are, and I'm more than happy to hear them.

I don't think condescension and self-righteousness are admirable by any means. And I don't think TV as a whole is useless, though I've heard a lot of people mindless refer to it as such.

The only people I know who watch are baby boomers.Retired and TV is a way of life.I do not think many people under the age of 35 watch them at all.

Hell I am 38 and have not watched anything on TV other than a movie(DVD)in over 2 years.The PC has replaced worthless main stream TV in this house.My 16 year old does not even turn the TV on in her room.

Ah, you're saying it may be because retires have nothing better to do...or maybe it's a generational thing.

Kind of like how Lawrence Welk type shows aren't around anymore as its target generation is either dead or almost dead.

Perhaps award shows like these will be obsolete in the next 20 years or so.

Old thread but I was searching for something similar.

At work, everyone talked about the Oscars.

I don't get the appeal. And that's not to hurt anyone's feeling or say they're stupid. I just don't get what all the damned fuss is about.
