Ya know, this kind of thread usually makes me shake my head, but I have a memory of his death too. I was young, really young, but it was all over the TV and checkout stands. I always thought I was just a little nuts ...

You aren't crazy, seems like we slip in and out of alternate timelines all the time, but usually the changes are so small you won't notice.

I'm 28 and I remember seeing something on TV about Nelson Mandela's death when I was little.

I think I was waiting for Saturday morning cartoons to come on, and there was some program talking about how he had just died. They used to show all kinds of weird stuff before the cartoons -- really depressing "save the children" infomercials with all this footage of AIDS babies in Africa, etc.

Anyway, you're not the only one who remembers hearing that he died.

I even remember the wife watching an episode of that Top Model where the contestants went to Mandella's old home, 1/2 tourist stop 1/2 pilgrimage kinda thing.

I remember this clearly.

So you have a recent memory of something in the media which referenced his death, not just memories of it from when it "happened" ?

The show in question was referencing his prison cell which has become a shrine.

In my timeline ...I thought the " Hanson's " (band) were a bunch of girls. Are they a bunch of girls in your timeline?

I swear, someone needs to find this new tv show that has his grand daughters.

I watched some interview of the girls that are teens and they were talking about him in the past tense.

It's just really weird that so many people would have these memories -- but NOT everyone remembers the same show or whatever, so it's not like there was ONE erroneous broadcast that EVERYONE saw.

Instead, people remember different things -- footage of the funeral and mourners, "biopic" memorial documentaries, references in newspapers, etc. So obviously there was A LOT of media referencing his death.

I remember SO CLEARLY being a little kid and wondering why this man WHO HAD DIED was so important.

not in my timeline.. all i know about that guy was he did a long stretch in prison.. oh and in the recent african world cup in 2010 his grand daughter or great grand daughter died in a car accident and he didnt attend the last game that the african team played because he was fresh in mourning..

I had the same experience with actor Brian Dennehy where I was sure I watched a news report saying he died several years ago then a year or so later I was qute surprised when his next movie was released and he was alive and kicking.
