Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1550290 This might help. Try turning off the Aero theme. That will help a lot. Well you will notice some slowing, but mainly it's because 7 loads up media streaming etc at boot up. You can disable a bunch of this and it will be as fast as XP. I love physics. It bonds us eternally, it's what makes our computers work, it's what's in my morning cup of coffee, it's the thing that keeps the universe from vanishing due to lack of belief... |

As is said, i keep my systems clean: XP idles at 130MB, Win7 at 250-300MB, no need for paging. System is Uniwill with Sis630/730 Unluckily, ReactOS is not yet usable, though i already can play music with it on this machine ;-) |

I have faster machines too, but as i said i love this one as i modded it myself (not just upgrades like anyone else - i mean in depth circuitry changes!), and it is still fast enough for browsing, office, hearing music and watching videos. Ubuntu is installed too, but can't handle the installed wifi-card. Gaming - don't need it, only a waste of time! One decade?! - I surely will maintain and repair it for another ten years! |

Had a shitty 800 MHz P3 laptop back in the day and it only took 100Mhz SD RAM where the chips are on BOTH sides, single sided DIMMS would not work! Your P3 @ 1.2 (oc'd? or tualatin?) sounds like you need 133 mhz dimms, but i guess you knew that already. Look if the working dimm is single or double sided and check if the not working one is different. ^^ |

First machine in my family was an old 286 my mom got free in ~ '92. Spent ages on Prince of Persia. ^^ Nothing wrong with old laptops and i was just joking you anyways. Your laptop is faster than any netbook, so all is fine. Hardmodding sounds interesting, what exactly did you do? OC? Maybe the RAM bug lies there? ^^ |
