Must be a scam, though I don't see how.

Try to cash the check, see what happens. Worst case, they laugh at you. Or, I guess, worst case, they arrest you for trying to kite checks.

No one even uses checks anymore, really.

The check is a forgery off someone elses (probably corporate) bank account.

If you cash/deposit the check and it bounces, YOU will be held liable for the full amount of the check. DON'T cash it !!! IT IS A SCAM!!

Yea def a scam . Friend got a check before from a scam website that looked legit and tried to cash it .
Didn't work . lol Actually they started questioning him

You cash the $1850 and send them only $200.
The check is no good to begin with but you sent them their $200.
Your financially responsible for the entire $1850 that bounce since it was bad to begin with.

That's why they want you to not mention the deal to anyone.

Some people try to think that if they pay the $200 up front and keep the check in their account until it clears the bank that it is a solution but the check is never good no matter what you do with it or how long you wait for it to clear.
