Flash in sky over San Diego
On my way home from work I saw a huge flash in the sky. Pretty sure it wasn't lightening. I was traveling southbound on the 15 and the flash was in the direction of downtown. Did anybody else see this? Does anybody know what it was? A meteor? An explosion?wtf

Was it around 6pm or so? I was going south on the 5 and swore I saw a fireball from downtown or maybe out in the ocean down that way. It looked huge considering I was in Oceanside at the time.

The light I saw was around 8:15pm - 8:30pm I think. Definitely later than 7:30pm.

Weird. That's funny because I actually checked here to see if anybody had posted anything about it when I got home. I hope I was just seeing things.

around 12:30 AM, Arizona time, I saw the same type event two nights ago... a briefly intense flash. No one posted about it.

Last night, a guy from Ontario posted about the same phenomenon.

I am ex mil... honestly, it did look like a magnesium flare - what I saw over Phoenix - but there were no fast movers to have dropped it. It was dead quiet... there was no evidence of multiple flares, and though I am currently close to Luke AFB, I am not living on a range.

And it was too short of an event to have been a flare anyway.

I thought it was a meteorite on entry... but man... it was intense. It lit up the whole of the back yard with a bright, white light for only one second and showed minimal signs of high speed trajectory (the play of light and shadow on the ground showed minimal movement, and I was under cover at the time of the event).

I saw it something like it once before dead on... it was like a beam of light coming from space... and my sis called it an "iridium/satellite flare". Makes sense I guess. I possibly have seem one twice now. But the noticing of three such flares on three consecutive nights is new to me.

This is interesting. By your description, it definitely came from above...three nights in a row though? I'm going to see if there are any videos about an "iridium/satellite flare" and maybe it will look like what you saw...but maybe not.
Things are getting really strange. Are these flashes happening around the same time each night?

I don't know what you mean by "under cover"...so if you're CIA, please don't send Seal Team 6 to my apartment because I asked questions (lol).

Under 'cover'... I was standing under the roof of a back patio, not 'under cover' as in 'secret agent man'

Nice catch though... I shoulda been more specific.

From what I understand, iridium flares can be predicted. I guess I have to do some research now. My sis knows of a website that tracks them.

An explosion rocked a North County McDonald's with employees and customers inside.
Fire investigators have not revealed what caused the explosion at the restaurant on Encinitas Boulevard around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

I saw a flash in the sky yesterday at 8:15pm in Renton, WA and one today at 8:45pm in Issaquah, WA. There were no few clouds and no rain so it wasn't lightning. What the hell is that? So weird.

I am in ocean beach in San Diego I definitely heard what sounded like a very loud lightning strike sometime around 6 pm. It was very loud and not too cloudy at the time so it seemed pretty strange.

Saw one last night around 8pm, driving to San Marcos. A bright flash over Palomar Mountain, it wasn't lightning, it wasn't a plane. Just a bright 3 second flash,no noise or anything and I was in the front seat and my friend who was driving saw it also. And we were like wtf.

We are in the midwest, My son said he saw what you are all describing out here a few nights ago. Said it was a bright white flash, kinda like that Youtube Video of the news anchor speaking in front of live cam and a bright light flashes. Anyhoo, Maybe everyone is seeing "ball" lightening? It can move around and look like pulsing lights, red light, white light, or multi-colored. I personally believe that is what everyone is seeing when they report UFO sightings or red orbs that follow them, just my opinion though.1dpanic

Re: Flash in sky over San Diego
okay so i saw the same thing as all of you, but that was from a year ago. i live in Valley Center and i drive around at night very often. from where i live i can hear and feel booms from camp pendalton. last night me and a friend were going home from school when over the mountains to my left going northbound came a giant white flash. i have never in my life seen this before. so me and my friend panicked after we saw it. I thought at first oh it was just an explosion form camp pendalton or maybe lightning but there were no clouds in the sky, and when i got home i asked my parents if they heard or felt an explosion from camp pendalton. they both said no. like i said, ii have never seen anything like this happen before.

Re: Flash in sky over San Diego
There was a post on here last week, a gentleman from Washington state was experiencing lightning with no clouds in the sky, I saw the same thing as I was cruising around in my car that same evening (because thats what I do on clear nights) and I'm just pretty much a 45 minute drive to the border crossing. Strange, does it seem electric OP? Although we have had pretty significant thunder and lightning storms I kinda ruled it out as a mix of humid and cold air happening higher up in the atmosphere, considering its fall soon and our days are warm but our nights are getting colder. So strange though you usually don't get lightning on a clear night.
