The one described in the article works by emitting sounds to disrupt the speaker, if I remember correctly. It is supposed to 'confuse' similar to an echoing/reverberating cell phone conversation for instance. I wonder if we would 'hear it' in action. We opened doors by thinking. |

Quoting: Monbazillac When I was a kid I did. I could simply completely block out the context of their dialogue, kind of like de-focusing your eyes but only with the speech recognition part of my brain.I always assumed all kids had this ability. The kids on 'The Peanuts" did. |

The only limitation is that it only works with words; meaningless syllables like those often expressed by pirates or onomatopoeia don’t necessarily work. The researchers see it as a tool to maintain order in meetings or discussion groups where someone is trying to dominate the conversation. I'm not sure it was the 'silencer gun' (since apparently all it can do is silence a person) but it was likely some kind of wave attack. What surprises me is that there was no delay between the reports and the airing of them. I thought there was a 5-second or 12-second delay, even on the 'live-to-air' segments. Anyone here in the on-air media industry? Isn't there always a time delay, even in live-to-air shows? |
